size: 7,500 square km (about half of it is dedicated to farming and agriculture)
population: 250,000 citizens and subjects of the King; about 2,000 - 3,000 foreigners living there full-time

climate and terrain: mild, usually warm. Winters are cold, although not particularly long. Mountains in the middle of the nation, extending all the way to the seaside.
military: 2,000 full members of the military, plus 300 members of the Royal Guard (Order of Sven Duva). Main emphasis is on sea-and-air defenses, with comparatively small ground force. Several patrol boats and two destroyers. With the peacekeeping operations in Syndromia, the military will expand. Volunteer force so far, although each citizen is required to serve at 6 months in either military or civilian capacity after becoming an adult as a national service and duty.
Government: Constitutional hereditary monarchy. His Majesty the King is the head of state, while Prime Minister is the head of the government. The Prime Minister is elected in direct elections at the same time as the Parliament (with 4 years between elections) and it is his or her duty to select other members of the cabinet. King may decline to accept the proposed cabinet, forcing the Prime Minister to begin again (although 4/5 majority vote in the Parliament can overrule the King's decision). The cabinet must disband if they no longer enjoy the trust of the Parliament or the King. The Parliament must disband if it blatantly violates the Constitution and oversteps its collective authority. Justice department is independent from the rest of the government, only answerable for the King and the Supreme Court.
Exports of note: grain, wheat, nuclear energy; recently a notable naval construction yard has been constructed, so new patrol boats, destroyers and submarines can be sold. The Royal Naval Yard is owned by the government.
Foreign relations: member of the Fungal Axis, League of Unaligned Nations, League of Extraordinary Gentleman Nations (the founding member) and the trade organization NAFTA. Awaits Milord Buddha's answer to the offer to form a protectorate under his rule until such time when the said protectorate is ready to become fully independent; awaits the Republic of Vulpesia's answer to the offer to join the LEGN. Currently engaged in rebuilding Syndromia's devastated economy, education system, and civilian infrastructure.
Religion: His Majesty is an active member of the Universal Church of Christ under the guidance of Mother Superior of the Knights Astrum Glades LadyTevar. The freedom of religion applies, though, so others are not required to follow the King's example and there is no state church.
Education: the Academy of St. Runeberg is the designated university-level school for engineering, applied sciences, technical studies, physics and chemistry; the University of St. Agricola is the designated university-level school for classical arts, fine arts, law, history, theology, political science etc. The Vocational College of St. Ilmarinen teaches the upper levels of vocational education. The Academy is located away from the capital along with the Vocational College, while the University is located in the capital. The state provides public schooling for children of the ages 7 to 16; after that, high school and vocational schools are possible. Private high schools and vocational schools exist, while the elementary school is entirely public. The three above-mentioned university-level schools are under the guidance of the state, although several notably smaller private university-level schools exist (most notably the Actors' Academy of Tauno Palo). Military officers are trained in Military Academy of Rokka and police forces receive their training in the Police Academy of St. Vimes.

Well, yes, but I'm using it in orbit, not in the atmosphere. To get to orbit I'd be using chemical rockets.

1. Then wouldn't it be more practical-minded to develop the chemical rockets first, THEN start researching the NSW rocket?

2. Even if you are in orbit around the planet, the radioisotopes will decay their orbit and still fall to the ground.

3. How will you do the tests then?

Furthermore His Majesty is pleasantly surprised by the Republic's decision to aid his efforts to help Milord Buddha to gain a realm of his own.

In other news: first Poseidon-class submarine has been constructed and is now an active member of the Tiriolan Sea Defenses. The engineers of the Academy of St. Runeberg have made three modified versions: Poseidon-B, somewhat larger and stronger vessel, abandoning some of its exploration capabilities in favor of more military hardware (according to the chief engineer Kcud Dlanod (a naturalized immigrant), the name comes "from big punch"); Poseidon-C, a smaller submarine intended for coastal patrol and short-range missions (according to the chief engineer, the name comes from "coastal"); and Poseidon-D, somewhat slower and less autonomous vessel variant due to its diesel-electric systems. These vessel variants are ready for production, should someone desire to purchase them (and especially type Cs are recommended for the LEGN and LUN members in order to co-operate our sea defenses better).

Latest news from the II Republic

Politics

In a special session today, the Parliament has discussed the Student Immigration Act proposed yesterday by the King.

The Parliamentary members have come to the following conclusion: The Act's humanitarian merits are without question. While a real danger exists of uncotrolled outflow of students seeking education abroad, a statistical analysis based on opinion polls revealed that should such an outflow occur, the majority of emmigrating students would plan to return from abroad to settle back in their home country.

It was therefore agreed that the Student Immigration Act be passed in its proposed form ; With added incentives for students to return home after completing their education.

The act will come into law within six months, after all necessary procedures are established. First foreign students will have the opportunity to begin their studies next year.

The Republic invites other states covered under the SIA to enact similar laws. Also, we wish to establish a diplomatic conference in the capital city of Sarastia to analyze any potential problems which may arise out of the Act, especially for smaller or less prosperous countries.

International affairs

A horrible tragedy happened today as a damaged refugee ship sank in the waters off Syndromia. Due to lack of co-ordination and communication between occupying forces, only the Red Technocracy was able to react to the distress signal, saving a little less than half the refugees.

The II Republic government therefore moves for the accelerated establishment of Allied Joint Operational Command on Syndromia, to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.

The Foreign Ministry is preparing to attent the Conference On Law Of The Sea, where they shall state the Republic's position on presented issues.

The Defence Ministry of the Republic shall delineate its proposals for an integrated air-sea defence network soon.

Military: Approximately 30,000 strong. All volunteer. A good portion of the military is in the Glorious People's Home Fleet, which is primarily suited to intercept drug runners.
Government: Democratic Autocracy. Every 5 years a new Representative of the People is elected and bestowed with near absolute power. The few things which reside out of his power are the judicial system, the electoral system, and the military. The military in particular is charged with ensuring that the Representative is honorable and does not abuse his power. It is partly due to this reason that all members of the military or judicial system are forbidden from ever running for office.
Exports of Note: Automobiles, construction equipment, and quality musical instruments.
Foreign Relations: Member of the FUNGAL AXIS. Currently possesses a marginal role in the rebuilding of the Nation of Syndromia.
Religion: The GPRDB does not have an official religion. While freedom of religion is a right that not even the Representative may tamper with, religious belief is discouraged and such organizations are carefully watched by the nation's intelligence and police agencies for signs that they may foment dissent amongst the population.

In light of the tragic incident in Syndromia where allied naval forces were unable to respond to the plight of Syndromian refugees, the Shroomanian Mushroom Military has traded 4 Burke-class destroyers for 1 Nimitz-class aircraft carrier to bolster its force projection ability.

Shroomania continues with its effort to bolster its military, to better suit its expanded roles in the conflict in Syndromia and in preparation for any other future conflict. Shroomania's defense corporations are open to negotiations with foreign nations on the provision of technology that will aid in the defense of their territories.

Shroomanian companies are expressing interest in dealing with the Republic of One (Zarblog) to develop its military infrastructure while, at the same time, engaging in business relating to its giant crater full of oil.

Shroomanian defense contractors are also open to providing defensive armament to the new trade ships of the II Republic, in light of the wanton maritime piracy plaguing the waters of Syndromia and the Voluntaryist Libertopia.

Shroomania's own trade and cargo vessels have already repulsed many attempted raids by Syndromian Sea Pirates.

Simultaneously, Shroomania has christened the second Yer Mom-class mothership submarine, the vessel Yer Face. It has left port and begins its patrol of Shroomanian waters.

Mayday, mayday, this is the freighter RTS "Gdynia", we are under attack by an unidentified vessel! We are unarmed and are carrying medical supplies and machine tools to Syndromia, our position is...<transmission cut>.

Republican navy vessels and patrol boats in the vicinity of Syndromia have received orders to proceed to last known location of the freighter.

intially founded by a mixture of wayward treasure hunters, fanatical Zelots, Natives, and Pirates, The Bear republic is officcially a very schitzophrenic nation state. Whilst it's high levels of Valcanism creates earthquakes, and the occasional episodes of destruction, it's responsible for creating more land, the overall fertillity of soil, the geothermal and atomic powerplants, and vast mineral wealth.

The Bear Republic's exports consist of: Food, Movies, bad television, recreational medicinals, and of course Tourism. (The BR has also legalized a number of things other nationstates won't and regulates and taxes these businesses.)

BR military, actually as one can guess the BR being an elected republic is rutinely fucked militarily, as the represenitives don't want to offend their constituants, military funding tends to vary wildly, not to mention every so often someone gets some crazy impossible sceme (Let's not go into Emmpore Norton's Fleet of airiale dreadnaughts). Due to the fact that the imperial navy has so far consisted of only a few patrol boats, the empire's shipyards have been working hard to produce the following vessels to boost the Imperial Navy.

Halifax class frigate

The Empire currently possesses only three Halifax class frigate's,but production continues.

Arleigh Burke class destroyer

The first Arleigh Burke class destroyer, named USS Shady has also been produced.

Virginia class submarine

The first nuclear powered submarine of The Shadow Empire, USS SEAWOLF (SSN-21).

The Empire's military industries have just complited the first series of 20, F-22 Raptor jet aircraft. These aircraft shall be incorporeted into the newly formed Imperial Airforce.

The Empire has seen the suffering of the people of Syndromia and has dispatched the following forces to assist in peacekeeping operations:
-1,000 Imperial Soldiers
- USS Shady and 10 Patrol Boats, to help deal with the growing problem of pirats

Amongst the many concepts considered by the FUNGAL AXIS, the Red Technocracy, the Technoutopian Confederation (Starglider), and the Technocratic Greater Co-Prosperity Alliance (led by Surlethe) is the proposition to construct a massive mass driver that will propel spacecraft and large cargoes heavenwards to Earth's orbit.

Shroomanian scientists suggest that this proposition be chosen for construction.

OOC: Shady F-22's costs about 135 million each, Halifax class frigates cost roughly 110 million US dollars to build. Meaning your F-22's cost you roughly 2.7 billion dollars, add in the Frigits, the Seawolf and the Destroyer, and that build order would cost you roughly 3.4 billion dollars, which is half your GDP for any given year.

Be careful with those F-22's, not everyone can afford them, nor can I suspect you dedicate 60% of your GDP to military expenditures.
Something along the F-18 (21 million each) or Russian Su-31 or Su-35 fighters which are roughly as expensive. Heck the F-22 program itself cost 68 billion dollars in total, not counting production cost.

The Shadow Empire can afford these expenses, because we have recently discovered large quantities of large Diamonds in the shadow mountains.
