MS's Xbox Live & Sony's PSN:

Post by Medic »

can kiss my white ass. There's finally a 4-map variety pack but it is "downloadable content" (i.e., give us more money) on Xbox Live (as of this morning; expected to be as well for the Playstation Network in 3 weeks or so) and the same content will be released for the PC "in the future." Big, steaming pile of a link, comments hilarious.

To quote the most obvious complaint in that thread and my own here: "Nice job console fans. This was the type of stuff that used to be "FREE" for the pc." I've been borrowing the console version of this game nightly for fun on Xbox Live but I will gladly become a console apostate and stick to the pc version, much consigned to the secondary market that it is, there's still mods and downloadable user-made maps to hope for. (not rolling my eyes of the likelihood of that happening, just the deplorable state of affairs)

PS -- I can't even access this material on xbox live, as the service is glitchy for me at the moment and ONLY with respect to this download, hilariously. All the better, xbrick's going OFF. I will rue this day for many a moon.

edit: also, fuck console fans in general, and Infinity Ward for going with the crowd and not releasing content for free. Who knows though, maybe it'll be free 6 months from now, a-la Halo and Gears of War mappacks? Feh anyway.

Infinity Ward doesn't decide the prices for downloadable content, Microsoft does.

Yeah, the console market in general just seems to be wrenching one shitty bonus for themselves after another out of the legions. $60 dollar games? HOW COULD THEY? $300 + dollar consoles? WTFBBQ? Charging for downloadable content? THE HUMANITY. Yet apparently, enough people jump on the bandwagon to go along with it. I love PCs.

Now if only PC developers would MAKE SOME FUCKING GAMES. But nah, they always pull out "oh noez development costs are too high because we squeezed 5 extra polygon out of that dudes nose" excuse. :)

I personally have to admit to the $60 dollar games bull (occasionally), but I have yet to purchase any console for more than $300 dollars or spend money on ANY Live Market Contents what so ever. Keep your fucking bandwidth Microsoft. :)

I look forward to PC gamers being ostracized further in the future. Oh mighty developer lords, please continue to anally rape console fans with price gouging. The rise of consoles also brought about the rise of even-more-linear-than-90s-fps's FPS's, so I hate them for that too. Ubisoft fucked over Rainbow Six to make it console friendly too, my favorite series. I hear six people is too hard to control, let's make it three people now, but leave the name to leech the brand. Oh and tactical stuff? Fuck that, lets have over the top macho bullshit with zero planning. HALOCLONES! FUCK YEAH! PAYING FOR MODS! FUCK YEAH! NO USER MADE CONTENT! FUCK YEEEEEEEAAAAH! Let's go beat up some of them nerd kids. Seriously, that's what the console gamer looks like to me.

Needs more hyperbole? This *is* why console development is more attractive: easier, more profitable. It's not like PC gamers want anything different anyway, so just port it!

That said, this shit isn't always paid-for. I'm sure there's a bizarre logic (like 'big name game lol micropayment lol pile of money'), but I remember people paying money for a different-looking horse in Oblivion...

What's a sim, Hawkeye? Why bother using that c2d for anything other than eyelid shading? :)

Halo isn't a super example of a gaming series using FPS based play? I am shocked. Shocked and appalled.

We shouldn't worry, anyhow.... since Microsoft is trying to transform the PC into a console of sorts with its Games for Windows, LIVE for Windows, and Vista "gaming features".

Soon enough, we'll all be ass-raped equally.

Except people will just crack the content and use browsers to download things out-of-channel. It only works on a console because there are strictly controlled vectors to get anything onto it.

Clearly, my GPU is only around to compliment my extreme machine. That Duo Core, despite all its bragged features like "physics" and "advanced AI routines" are all secondary to it whoring itself out to uber textures. :)

To be certain I understand development costs have gone up and I don't bemoan a $10 increase in console games and other such stuff.

That being said this is mostly annoying because the CoD franchise was BUILT on the back of PC gamers and now we're getting shit on. Probably what will happen is we'll these maps free but MONTHS (I'm thinking 6+ but we'll see) after they've been out for pay on the consoles because that venue has to be for-pay and can't be free at the same time for the pc. This also allows the console version to be advertised as "the one" (as in 'should I get it for my x360 / PS3 or pc?) to get, especially also cause of prestige mode, which I don't PERSONALLY happen to care (level up like 10 times, just to show that you did and by the way, all your weapon and perk accomplishments go out the window when you start over!) for but which nonetheless is on the console versions only.

Don't like it, don't buy the console and subsequent software.

Blaming microsoft accomplishes nothing, blaming console gamers makes good conversation at work.

I'll cave in ANYWAY, once it becomes clear that >%50 of xbox live already has the maps... as is, %30 that did last night already do! It's not like it isn't my favorite game...

Maps cost money to develop, in fact I know personally how much time and testing goes into DLC before you even get it. I am not a console fanboy or anything, but asking studios to give away free stuff all the time isn't going to happen. It's like buying a new base model car and expecting the car dealership to give you extra accessories for your car so it is no longer the base model. Just wouldn't happen, same thing with games... you plop down your cash for "COD 4, Halo 3, etc..." you got the game you wanted. If you want the extra bells and whistles you need to pay for it.

... Which goes back to the original complaint, because a pay system simply CAN'T be done for the pc gamers, we don't even GET to buy it. So *shoots your analogy and dumps it in the mass grave of false analogies*

It would be far preferrable to get an expansion pack for the pc side and who knows maybe that's what they have planned. But this tit-for-tat and oh-by-the-way LOL if you got the pc version shit stinks to high heaven.
