Bush retroactively pardoning himself

Post by squidman001 »

CNN video via Youtube

I didn't see this posted elsewhere, but if it is by all means go ahead and lock it. Bush is apparently going to get himself and all his buddies including Cheney pardoned before going out of office. A good question is why would someone do this unless they knew they were guilty... oh right. :x

If Bush were to be tried for war crimes, wouldn't that case be tried by a "world court"? And if so, wouldn't the world court have the power to go above a presidential or congressional pardon?

I don't believe that the US has submitted to the authority of the World Court. And even if it has, I doubt it would comply with any attempt to pursue war crimes prosecution against President Bush.

Bush doesn't have to be tried by some World Court for war crimes. The thing about the United States is it takes its own treaty obligations very seriously, at least it used to. When a friendly administration comes in, a prosecutor like Patrick Fitzgerald might make a case against them. It would probably be for something very specific and easy to prove in court, without controversy. For example, a special prosecutor could go after Bush, Bush could say something to cover his ass, then he'd be prosecuted for lying to a grand jury. Bush would obviously never see jail time, but it'd be a massive embarassment and a technical victory for the lie-berals.

So this is a very real covering of his own ass, very necessary. I used to laugh at Elfdart saying the "Bush junta" would have to move to a Latin American country, but not anymore.

That bill was passed almost 2 years ago. It's blatantly unconstitutional for a couple of reasons (not that it matters with a Republitard Supreme Court), but the Junta could still be in legal jeopardy. Even the right-wing war whore Andrew Sullivan, just this weekend, declared that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld anf the others had better not set foot outside the US unless they want to be collared like Pinochet.

Another thing to remember is that war crimes can be tried and punished by any state that wishes to do so. People should (if they haven't already) hand over pictures and other information to Interpol. These people are criminals and need to be treated as such.

Do you mean Paraguay? According to myth, the second most corrupt country on the world.... and that's because they sold the first place!

And that's an actual political joke they say around there.
