Diego de Astarloa, although, since I'm still getting my bearings on the game, I might start a new (non-privateer) one in the future.
And guess what? You know those numbers in parentheses the ships in Open Ocean have? I found what they mean the hard way (tm)!
lvl 7 Starter Ship vs 5 lvl 50+ Warships, fuck yeah!

That's the Merriam-Webster definition of MMO PVP Combat.Brother-Captain Gaius wrote: inglorious combat against chickenshits

Well, after much effort, I'm now level 40. Only 10 levels to go and this will officially become the first MMO I've maxed out a character in (not including SWG due to its purely skill based system and multiple retraining possibilities).
Edit - just for fun:
DAoC - 37 Briton Paladin (max 50)
WoW - 44 Undead Warrior (max 60/70/whatever the fuck now)
EQ2 - 20-something Human Paladin
Guild Wars - 20 not-maxed Warrior/Monk
And various half-assed efforts barely worth mentioning in Tabula Rasa, DDO, Earth & Beyond, Vanguard, City of Nubs, and probably one or two more I can't remember.

I managed to max out a character in WoW.... then they released the expansion XD.
BTW, I'm liking the game more and more, even though I got myself a case of alt-itis and haven't progressed beyond lvl 10 yet. I'm not sure wich class I prefer, but since I've already chosen Spanish, I can't also play Pirate on Bonny....
I must say, the ship combat system is easy to learn, and apparently simplistic, but there's more to it... to the very least, positioning, formations, and strategy seem to play a larger role than I expected....
Just for fun too:
WoW - 63 Tauren Warrior (in a few months it'll be max 80)
City of Heroes/Villians -30 Über Robot of Death -SS Brute- (max 50)
I could count Flyff, Silk Road, or other Korean insta-games... but not really worth it.

You should have seen the port battle attack by the British on the Pirates at Guanica. They formed up a pretty little naval line complete with a number of 4th rate ships-of-the-line... while we, being the pirates we are, massed in a little cove near the town that forced them to compromise the effectiveness of their line, and as they approached we charged full speed into them and utterly destroyed their formation, devolving the whole thing into a massive melee. We won.LordOskuro wrote:I must say, the ship combat system is easy to learn, and apparently simplistic, but there's more to it... to the very least, positioning, formations, and strategy seem to play a larger role than I expected....

So me and Gaius played together for a few hours disrupting British shipping near Puerta de la Plata. It was capped off when we attacked a British player who I think was a level or two above Gaius, and way above me (level 15 vs 41? oh god). I still managed to help by ramming straight into the guy guns blazing and boarding his ship. I didn't actually accomplish much damage, but while I was fighting the bad guy Gaius was hammering away at his ship.
I had like no armor left except for the starboard side and no health but it was still a lot of fun.
