nBSG Episode 402: "Six of One"
Moderator: NecronLord
The Starbuck standoff was handled better than I thought...she stayed relatively in character and brought up, basically, what a damn hypocrite Roslin can be sometimes. Also worth noting...the only time Roslin has even picked up a gun, let alone fired a shot.
I also liked the solution to the dilemma, even though it was so obvious that everyone predicted it. One can only hope that a) Demetrius is crewed by volunteers, and b) the fleet can survive without a sewage ship! I do question how the two factions will be able to communicate. Last I checked no FTL comms, and jumping to Earth and then BACK to the fleet is a lot of fuel spent.
The Lee scenes were so fucking tiresome they bumped this ep down to a 4 for me. IMO it's out of character for Dee to still reject him even though Adama is buddies with him again. Also, he already left the service. I think they should have kept the strip cards scene (it was the most genuine and heartfelt, plus funny) and chopped the others down.
But ALL of the Cylon stuff...the Final Five as well as the basestar scenes...were fucking GOLD. Also I am very, very intrigued by Head Baltar appearing to Baltar..this is perhaps THE STRONGEST evidence that the fantasy beings are somehow real, although we can't yet be totally sure that Baltar's Baltar is Six's Baltar...
(Interesting note: we finally got the rest of the Significant Seven model numbers in this episode. 1-6, plus 8, are the familiar models. Number 7 and Numbers 9-12 are the Final Five. I have to wonder if this is significant and/or if 7 is the mystery Cylon.)

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal. -Tanasinn

Actually it looks like it ticks down by age, almost. At least amongst the Significant Seven - Sharon/ Boomer is clearly the youngest and she's also the highest number.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I loved the scene between Adama and Roslin. I could watch Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell read the phone book to each other.
When Head!Baltar showed up, I thought "I'm surprised he doesn't try to fuck himself," as you'd imagine having sex with someone as totally awesome as himself is Baltar's lifelong dream.
Grace Park makes me feel funny in my pants.
The Centurions rebelling was one of the really awesome moments in this series. And on a side note, I think it's a tribute to the writing and the actor over the years that I enjoyed watching that Doral get blown away so much--I always thought the Doralss were the most effective villains among the Cylons.

Most likely it was a bodged solution because most of the ships in the fleet are way over design capacity for carrying people, and what waste reclamation systems they do have are completely unable to cope with their current population.Destructionator XIII wrote: Maybe it was converted into one after joining the rag-tag fleet, meaning that they might be able to simply convert another ship to take its place later.

BTW, when did Boomer become such a bitch anyway? I feel like I missed something in her character development somewhere in Season 3. Also, it's strange that Natalie is so surprised by Boomer's dissenting vote, considering that Caprica Six has "deadlocked" the Sixes more than once, though I suppose she's never actually voted against.

My blog, please check out and comment! http://decepticylon.blogspot.comI'd actually like to see more Athena. It's been a while since we've seen anything to do with her. She SEEMS to be one of the guys now, but all the same we haven't gotten much more into her character of late. Perhaps the final 4 will think about talking to her at some point.
One thing I did like which I forgot to mention was the brief shot of the Flattop repairing the Aries. They are small details, but after Voyager and a host of other shows that neglect basic repairs and maintenance (not to mention just showing the damage), I love seeing that they're actually trying to repair the rather severe damage received in the last battle.

Actually, I'd worry more about Cally being the 5th and final Cylon. I know, I know, sounds like shit. But I can't believe it is Roslin or either Adama. Baltar has his own little destiny to fulfill, so it won't be him. Same with Starbuck. And I'm wondering just when they're going to come around to dealing with the Cally/Chief baby thing. I know it's probably not her, but I'm running out of people that seem to fit the mold.If it ends up that Tigh is pushing that they should murder Cally just so they can keep their identities as Cylons secret, then my respect for him will drop by quite a lot.

Ok, that's a good point and very possible. But if so, then why do we have the known Cylons as 1-6, then Boomer as the 8s? What happened to the 7s?Zac Naloen wrote:Not if they were made in two batches...LadyTevar wrote:If that's so, then wouldn't Tigh be the second model made?Vympel wrote:Actually it looks like it ticks down by age, almost. So, someone please help me out here and give me who we've got so far. I never quite matched the names/numbers for the Cylon males, so if I'm wrong, please correct me.
The 7 Known
Boomer = 8
Caprica = 6
Leobon = 5?
Doril = 4?
Dianna = 3
The Doc = 2?
Cavil = 1
The Final 5 (Wild Guesses at numbers)
Tigh = 7?
Tyrol = 9 (2 of 5)
Tori = 10 (3 of 5)
Anders = 11 (4 of 5)
(Unknown 12) (5of 5)
Best guesses for #12: Baltar, Starbuck. The long-shot? Gaeta, since people have been thinking him a Cylon since the start

See tiny text for my guesses (they're not really spoilers, but I was following Spanky on that one. I'm willing to put Gaeta up there just slightly below my random guess, but I don't think it'll turn out to be Starbuck or Baltar.LadyTevar wrote: Best guesses for #12: Baltar, Starbuck. So, #7 starts the Final Five, and if we go by the theory that Cavil looks old because he's #1, that could make Tigh #7 since he's the oldest of the Final Five. On the other hand, the ones on Galactica could be #9-12, with #7 being the missing unit.
The real question is how the Final Five got where they were so quickly. Tigh met Adama after the Cylon War, when they served on the same ship, and then Tigh rode Adama's coattails up the ranks. That means that the first HumanForms were prefected, or nearly so, within the first 5 years or so after the Truce, otherwise, how could Tigh be a Cylon? He's aged with Adama, like any normal human, getting to be a drunken crotchety old bastard with a cheating wife who he loved and hated and couldn't seem to live with or without.
Which sparks in my mind Baltar's statement about the Cylons having great Passion.
Tigh, while flawed, is a passionate man, swinging wildly in his moods from manic to depressive. Tyrol is also passionate, focused on his work and devoted to his family. Anders was an inspiration to others, both as a sports star and as a Resistance leader. His passion also plays out with Starbuck. Tori? Quietly supportive of Roslin throughout it all, keeping the Colonial government working smoothly and properly almost as if a machine herself ... only breaking that ice-queen ideal when having sex.
Then let's look at the other Cylons.
Cavil is a lecherous old man, pretended to be a priest despite his near-atheism, and extreme in his views of what the Cylons should be.
D'anna became obsessive over seeing god, to the point she was seen as a danger to the Cylons.
Leoben haunts the Hybrid's chamber, seeking omens and visions in their random words, styling himself an oracle and advisor. We won't go into the obsession with Starbuck the one Leoben had.
Six... well... they seem to get a bit lost in their roles, don't they? Caprica fell in love with Baltar. Gina loved Caine, but the torture broke her nearly totally, to the point she preferred to kill herself where Rebirth couldn't reach. Natalie just gave the Centurions their sentience, because she hated what was being done to the Raiders.
Boomer and Athena. Both have broken their Cylon programming, Athena going so far as to join the Fleet to be with her baby and husband, while Boomer caused the first cracks that have fractured the Cylon solidarity, and continues to be a wild-card in their plans.

My blog, please check out and comment! http://decepticylon.blogspot.comI wonder if its note worthy that 4 of the final 5 were instrumental in the New Caprica Resistance?
far from being sympathtic (Helo) or even minded (Apollo) the Four have established histories as people who hate the 7 cylons. certianly if there was a broader civil war between the 7 and the 5 the four revealed so far would have no problem blowing the 7 models to dust.
Also Tigh gets more and more badass.

Also: Head-Baltar? Nice. Now just wait to get Baltar, Caprica, Head-Six and Head-Baltar in one scene. It would be comedy galore.
