From the more recent series, it still has to be...
Doctor: "But what I don't understand is that the Cybermen don't have the technology to build a void ship, thats way beyond you! How did you create that Sphere?"
Cybermen Controller: "The Sphere, is not ours"
Doctor [taken aback]: "What?"
Controller: "The sphere broke down the barrier between worlds, we only followed, its origin is unknown".
Doctor [confused and very alarmed]: "Then what's inside it...?"
*down in the Sphere room, a brief shot of things flying out of the sphere*
Mick[confused]: "Thats not cybermen..."
*Daleks come flying out of the Sphere*
Rose [in utter horror]: "Oh my God"
Sec: "Location; Earth...lifeforms detected! Exterminate!"
Other Daleks: "Exterminate!"
All Daleks: "Exterminate EXTERMINATEEEEEE!"
That whole sequence was just SO awesome for me as I had somehow managed to avoid any spoilers for the episode at ALL, so I was really enjoying the whole thing. Torchwood, the Cybermen taking over the Earth...then the Daleks come flying out of the Sphere, I was just about to fall over from sheer geek overload when I saw that.

Hmm.... so many possible favourites....
But for all time, I'd have to go with the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy), with the Fourth (Tom Baker) following up.
The entirety of the Battlefield serial, if only for Ace blowing stuff up, the return of Lethbridge-Stuart and Bessie, the Third Doctor's vehicle of choice.
The Candyman (in "The Happiness Patrol") scared the crap out of me when I first saw it on the ABC waaay back in woop woop time, and still was a little spooky when the series was revived.
The bit in "The Curse of Fenric", where the Doctor had to break Ace's faith in him, as that faith was what stopped the Ancient One from clobbering the titular evil.
The young blonde girl in "Remembrance of the Daleks" - 'Doctor, doctor at the ga-ate...', weirdly turning up after the Doctor, or watching him from afar, then turning out to be an organic computer for one of the Dalek factions - again spooking the crap out of me when I first saw it in 1989 or so, and still powerful in 2006-7.
Davros getting bitchslapped in the above serial. Similarly with Ace's baseball bat-fu, complete with Omega Device-enhanced baseball bat.

That whole scene is gold, right from the opening of the rift.Chris OFarrell wrote:From the more recent series, it still has to be...

Tennant sold that for ONE MILLION DOLLARS, and it was followed up by the sphere reveal which was also awesome.

My favourite one is the volcanic world with the "healing gasses" that Turlow finds out he is is of royal blood on. (triangular mark) The one where he not only lets the Master die, but stays to the end and WATCHES him die, to avoid a james bond style escape at the last second. (The Master was shrunk by accident experimenting with his tissue compaction nullifier, and needed a heal BAD!)
Overall I liked the Preppy Doctor more than most. He outright killed many of his long standing enemies. Time travel being what it is, he can still run into them of course. He nixed the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Master and 2 or 3 others (the Rani?) in his short but illustrious term as an incarnation.

And I think a large part of it was the music, frantic as the Cybermen materialize all over the planet, then the slow orchestral buildup to the final reveal of the Daleks flying out of the Void Ship.
Hell, I'm going to go and pull out the DVD now...

While the "killer or coward?" line has always been my favourite, I've always been fond of the following from The Girl in The Fireplace:
"Must be a spatio-temporal hyperlink."
"What's that?"
"No idea. Just made it up. Didn't want to say magic door."

I forgot to add the following as a sort of runner-up:
From The Sound of Drums:
"Here! Come! The! Drums!"
*Voodoo Child starts playing*
That scene was completely sold on John Simm's acting. A wacky Master for a wacky Doctor.

I think the "drums" were supposed to be a symptom of the Master's insanity. Also, he used that weird rhythm to hypnotize everybody.
My favorite moments:
The doctor recording his message in "blink" using a transcript of the same conversation from the future.
Yana from "utopia" slowly remembering and transforming in to the Master.

I just took them as a sign of his madness. I didn't feel any particular need for them to "describe" noises a madman is hearing.Stark wrote:The drums were pretty much plot-useless: they built them up and then pretty much totally ignored them. Just a part of his madness. Another thing the S3 finale fucked up.

"If I am God, the creator of all things then what does that make you, Doc-tor?"
The Doctor vs. the Beast, especially the Beast's speech (Though that's not to the Doctor. Anyhow, it's great). In fact pretty much every line if has is great.
Four words from Professor Yana.

That's fine, but they wasted far too much screen time on it, and Sound of Drums in particular played it up. Even worse was the fact that they just made it up, and the Master has never described this problem before. Master now rants constantly about drums driving him to war, uses them to hypnotise the world, and that plot thread goes nowhere? Pffft. The drums were so powerful he heard them AFTER HAVING HIS ENTIRE BIOLOGY RE-WRITTEN AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL! But nah, just a throwaway thing lol.Dahak wrote:I just took them as a sign of his madness. The thing of it is that the Drums were quite superfluous to explain the Master's insanity. The chap had been getting progressively unstable through his later regenerations. It was clear that when push came to shove in the war, instead of being "the perfect warrior", he pissed himself and ran away to the deepest, darkest corner of the universe in the year 100 trillion, which means he proved a worse coward than the Doctor's ever accused himself of being and he knows it. And it seemed that something went very wrong with his regeneration —his screaming during the change was quite unusual. That idea alone could have explained his psychosis; a result of regeneration trauma (perhaps the TARDIS tried to kill him..?).Stark wrote:That's fine, but they wasted far too much screen time on it, and Sound of Drums in particular played it up. The only way to rationalise it is that the Drums are merely a symptom and the Master has fooled himself into perceiving them as the "call to war" that has driven him his whole life (at this point, none of his observations or memories should be trusted, of course). He could have heard them for years as Prof. Yana because of the Master's contained consciousness in the watch, continually calling to him in dreams or in moments when his attention would wander.
When ballots have fairly and constitutionally decided, there can be no successful appeal back to bullets.

Well that's it: the drums were the siren call of the Master, and he used them in Archangel. It just turns out that the beat itself was irrelevant, which was lame. Two episodes of buildup and they just dropped it. If it was the footsteps of doom or it was directly linked to mind control or something it would have been worth the screen time it used up: in Utopia it almost seemed like it was external to the Master, and that could have been extremely interesting

I'm still optimistic about that being foreshadowing for something when we next see the Master (inevitable). It seems to me it was implanted by the Time Lords when they restarted his regeneration cycle. Quite possibly as a motivator for him to fight the Daleks.
But we'll see. It certainly seemed to get too much screen time for something not critical for the plot there and then, I'll say that.

Two from episodes that I haven't actually seen (but must track down some time):
Someone: He is said to be the best swordsman in France.
The Doctor: Well, fortunately, we are in England.
The Brigadier: "Jenkins! Chap with the wings there, five rounds rapid."
My favourite recent one is The Doctor Dances, even above Blink, for so many great lines:
The Doctor: Go... To... Your... Room!
...
I'm really glad that worked. Those would have been terrible last words.
Plus the riffs about him causing a weapons factory to be replaced by a banana plantation, defending the sonicness of his screwdriver, and messing with Rose's head:
Rose: Look at you, beaming away like you're Father Christmas.
The Doctor: Who says I'm not? Red bicycle when you were twelve.

I think the best moment has to be Son-of-Mine's epilogue at the end of 'Family of Blood' where he explains how the Doctor completely fuxored all of them.
Do NOT mess with the Doctor.

Fuckin' A. The other time I've felt that kind of awesome was the last ten minutes of "Utopia". Both times see the Doctor scared witless and both had me with chills going down the spine.Stark wrote: That whole scene is gold, right from the opening of the rift.

The Daleks appearing and the Master awaking like that... it's worth the lame filler episodes.
As I've said before, it reminds me of the Culture in ways (Necron will chime in here ). The finality of his wrath with that family's son doing the monologue was great. It's a side you don't see except in special circumstances.CaptainChewbacca wrote:I think the best moment has to be Son-of-Mine's epilogue at the end of 'Family of Blood' where he explains how the Doctor completely fuxored all of them.

I still hold out hope that it is something they'll come back to, as with the darkness in TW. If they bring it up randomly in a later season, that would be brilliant. If handled right. It'd be cool if the drumming was linked somewhat to the current story in the new season.Stark wrote:Well that's it: the drums were the siren call of the Master, and he used them in Archangel.
