Snow? Yes we be having snow, and lots of it

However I stick to the traditonal Red-Neck method of snowclearing gravel driveways

Take 1 Snow shovel, add 1x 2 Liter Can of Paint Thinner + 1 2 Quart Contaier of Petrol/Gasoline and eight paper plates and any assorted firewood you want(Up here a few hundred pounds of it is less than 20$ you only need 4 say football or slighty smaller sections)


Make one good sized manhole cover sized hole in the snow every 20 Yards(Depending on the Length of your Driveway)

Place the paper plate in the now open hole and fill it less than 1cm full of Petrol/Gasoline and poor the paint-thinner till the plate is filled to the brim and then toss a tiny bit into the second plate which you put on top of the first, revesed, then place the log on top of that and lightly doze the log itself

Repeat the above till all our done


Now then use your method of light(Preferably far away, String plus an hour's dip in the Thinner will work, Or the flying wood-match trick)

What will happen in the following

You'll toss a match on the top plate, it will catch, 3-7 Seconds later the bottom plate catchs and normaly subjects the log to between 30-2 Mintues of Yellow-Blue Heat meaning its nicely burned and the area underneath is clear, The Great heat from this inferno will evaporate the surronding snow in a few moments and you catch sit their and watch from your nice heated house or enjoy the old fasion heat of the flaming logs

Bombers fight Siberia floods

MOSCOW, MAY 18. Russian warplanes have been bombing the ice- blocked Lena river in Eastern Siberia in an effort to rescue thousands of people trapped in flooded towns and villages.

Over the past 24 hours, Su-24 bombers dropped 84 250- kg bombs on ice floes downstream from the town of Lensk, devastated by floods.

The town with a population of 27,000 has been submerged under six metres of water. About 6,000 residents in Lensk have been airlifted to safety, but a majority refused, fearing looting, and were now holding out on the roofs of their houses.

Emergency officials said the situation was critical, as 400 wooden houses had been washed away and another 1700 houses destroyed. But so far there have been no casualties.

The Emergency Situations Ministry has rushed planeloads of relief supplies to the region, where 30,000 people have been evacuated from flooded territories.

The Russian Prime Minister, Mr. Mikhail Kasyanov, on Friday ordered the establishment of an inter-agency emergency group in the Government to coordinate rehabilitation of flood-stricken areas.

On Friday, the bombers blasted the ice obstructing the river near Lensk and water levels in the town began to subside.

However, floods are now threatening towns further downstream, including the regional capital, Yakutsk, where high water is expected to reach on Sunday.

Floods hit Russian rivers every spring, but this year water has risen to the highest levels ever recorded on the Lena more than 22 metres.

The situation along the 4,400-km long river has been aggravated by great differences in temperatures in its upper and lower reaches.

While metre-thick ice covering the river started breaking up in the south over a week ago, further north it is still holding strong creating massive obstacles to the flow of chunks of ice and water.

Of course, if that is counterproductive to the "trial by ice" endurance ethic, then I guess you could work a little slower just to maintain the correct level of Spartan resilience. Perhaps holding the shovel load as far away from the body as possible for as long as possible would cause the body the maximum level of strain. Then again, if you get to the point where you would normally perspire under normal temperatures, then you could be indulging in unacceptable levels of insidiously disguised relief from the cold, and may have to lighten your load in order to regain the freezing conditions from which your physical strain had been temporarily protecting you.

Nonetheless, men who seek out to toughen themselves up could easily be labelled "wimps" for deliberately trying to raise their pain threshold, since they may be too afraid to remain weak and vulnerable. Screw boot camp: real men rush onto the battlefield WITHOUT training!

Okay, it's starting to clear off. It is a real dusty snow. The roads are pretty much clear, but the high for us is only going to be 22. (For us that is butt cold. It's going to drop to single digits at night for the next week). For some reason, my work place is closed. However I don't find this out until I get inside and start setting up. I think what happened is that the big wigs are up on the mountains were it's iced over, then my old man comes and tells me that everyone was called except for us.

Snow, oh so wonderful snow. I love winter, infact I wish I could have winter 12 months out of the year. It just snowed last night, got a couple inches. The mountain itself got 5 inches and they expect half a foot tonight. I intend on skiing tomorow. As for snow removal. We use our nice big snow shovel, but we also have a 1967 Nisan Patrol with a snow plow on it. And we sure as hell need it. Our drive way is 250 feet long and when we get a couple inches, its really an effort. We get at least 5 storms a year that we need to plow the drive way and parking area. Some times its close to a foot, those are interesting days, the driving is terrible because everyone else is a complete idiot and tries driving OVER the speed limit on sheer ice roads.

I also find it amusing how some people with 4x4's drive like maniacs because they figure their 4WD will protect them. Hey, word to the wise: 4WD helps you control your vehicle and accelerate, but IT DOESN'T HELP YOU STOP.

It was snowing when I left my house this morning, and it was about -28C with the windchill. The cold is good since the outdoor ponds will actually freeze up this year so I can play hockey and go skating on them.
