Wikileaks posts 100+ Tibetan protest pics, China does DDOS
Wikileaks.org recently hosted over 100 photos of the protests in Tibet and China, complete with a healthy dose of violence (as you can imagine). Wikileaks.org is now down. People in the unofficial wikileaks IRC channel are reporting DDOS attacks from China as the reason for the failure. It probably doesn't help that it was ALSO Dugg, which is usually enough to kill a website's bandwith all by itself.
The DDOS thing from China still awaits confirmation from the ISP, but the content of the photos was definitely damning in nature. Pictures of people collecting the bullet-hole filled bodies of monks, girls crying amidst police setting shops on fire, etc.
I post this here as my own form of protest. Please spread this as far as you feel is wise so that more people understand exactly what is happening.
The following is a link to a mirror of very graphic images, and is NSFW. Your discretion is advised.

It looks alot more like protesters setting shops on fire and trashing the streets.Kane Starkiller wrote:The police was setting shops on fire? Is this true?Ender wrote:girls crying amidst police setting shops on fire
I mean didn't you know the cops called the people over to try and flip thier car over?

That site would be a lot more convincing if those pictures actually showed police using deadly force against helpless civilians. Instead, we see numerous pictures of dead people, followed by a bunch of pictures of Chinese police and soldiers either marching around or using non-lethal force.

Exactly what I saw. I'm not doubting the claims, but a better visual representation of what is supposed to have been happening should be attempted.Darth Wong wrote:That site would be a lot more convincing if those pictures actually showed police using deadly force against helpless civilians. Granted, most people are going to see gun shot victims and then cops and just assume the worst anyway.

Pictures 15 and 16 show the same man, but with his arms in different positions, as if someone had moved them. With all due respect, how can we be certain these photos weren't faked? I remember seeing a photo of police leading away a man in a Chinese newspaper, in which a Chinese man identified himself as the person in the photo and stated the police were helping him, and protesting that Western media captioned it as police arresting a Tibetan protester. Without further evidence, this comes down to "his word versus mine," and BOTH sides' credibility is in doubt.
I know China has a pretty bad human rights record, but Tibet under the Buddhist theocracy was able to match the worst of the CCP. (See here.) You have to be wary of the fact that BOTH sides are ruthless in the promotion of their agendas.Ender wrote:I post this here as my own form of protest. A good point. Until a more reliable source of info presents itself, I'm keeping my mind open to the possibility some of those photos were faked.Darth Wong wrote:That site would be a lot more convincing if those pictures actually showed police using deadly force against helpless civilians. Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Now that I think about it, the odd thing about it all, is that I don't see some Chinese policeman brutalising anyone. You'd think that the most powerful image would be some Policeman beating anyone to a pulp.

Your spirit, diseased as it is, refuses to allow you to give up, no matter what threats you face... and whatever wreckage you leave behind you.

This raises suspicion of who was responsible for the violence and destruction, the Chinese security forces, Chinese criminals (NOT the same as governmental forces, despite what Voluntaryist may claim), or Tibetan rioters. Note that, despite the Burmese government's attempt to censor what happened, foreign reporters DID manage to get photographic evidence of Burmese police brutality.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Now that I think about it, the odd thing about it all, is that I don't see some Chinese policeman brutalising anyone. China are very touchy about perceived human rights abuses and have no qualms about trying to shut down whoever tries to argue the contrary. This doesn't mean the pictures are real, it means China knows as well as anyone that enough people will assume it's real and that either way, it's all so much negative publicity for a nation trying to host the Olympics.Dave wrote:But if it was faked, why is it being DDOSed from China? I find the picture of the Chinese policemen sitting around having a break to be particularly powerful.
This picture is also quite interesting. Clearly the person is in a position of submission, which is bad, right? A person who was just casually looking through the images would probably assume that it was directly related to the rioting. Well, read the caption:
Tibetans offers prayer at the historic Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, Gansu Province, China, Sunday, March 16, 2008. On Saturday, police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of Buddhist monks and other Tibetans after they marched from the historic Labrang monastery and smashed windows in the county police headquarters in Xiahe, witnesses said.
So essentially they took a picture of someone praying, unimpeded, in a monastery that was the origin of a riot the day before and stuck it in with a bunch of photos that are supposed to show the Chinese crushing Tibetan resistance. I find this use of such imagery to be somewhat dishonest.

It's not necessarily the Chinese government doing it. It could easily be a bunch of patriotic students reacting against a perceived slight.Masami von Weizegger wrote:China are very touchy about perceived human rights abuses and have no qualms about trying to shut down whoever tries to argue the contrary. Mmm. You're right. I jumped the gun a little associating an attack from China as being sponsored by the Chinese government.Adrian Laguna wrote:It's not necessarily the Chinese government doing it. It could easily be a bunch of patriotic students reacting against a perceived slight.

Another thing to note is that China just simply doesn't like admitting that it has a problem with stability. Even if all those individuals were shot by the Tibetan protesters themselves, China would be very reluctant to release that information because they believe they have to promote China as a harmonious and stable society.

There's another possible cause for the DDOS.
You know, alot of chinese are pissed with the biased reporting that most western news channels offer.
I don't see CNN or any news channel talking about how ugly tibet it was under religious rule...
And in some other forums, when a chinese pointed out how bad tibet was before the CCP assume direct control....
Some people immediately argue that the poster is lying and etc.

Yeah. Quite a few Chinese youths I met in China have no qualms about attacking sites that present negative stuff about their nation, true or not.

Lì ci sono chiese, macerie, moschee e questure, lì frontiere, prezzi inaccessibile e freddure
Lì paludi, minacce, cecchini coi fucili, documenti, file notturne e clandestini
Qui incontri, lotte, passi sincronizzati, colori, capannelli non autorizzati,
Uccelli migratori, reti, informazioni, piazze di Tutti i like pazze di passioni...

Well...all those protestors who believed that simply applying pressure on china will work...
I think their actions have backfired on them. Hmm...how many protestors is even aware of the 'face' concept that most asian society carries, and how humiliating them can help human rights movement.
I've reads news reports and alot of forums that due to the tibet incident, chinese as a whole are starting to reject the western media as a credible news source.

From what I gather from their revolutionary mindset they cannot comprahend that they are conquered and that's de facto.Well...all those protestors who believed that simply applying pressure on china will work...
Like many people over here that want to (and I kid you not) the medieval territories back. I shit you not, there are people here that want all the territory that medieval Hungary held.
Credo!

Sigh...when the western media is perfectly happy with distorting certain facts just to fit into what they want to see...I can really understand how much do the chinese hate news channels like CNN and etc.Master of Cards wrote:all the pictures of that guy say he;s the same manSidewinder wrote:Pictures 15 and 16 show the same man, but with his arms in different positions, as if someone had moved them. Worst case is most people don't question the media as biased or distorting the facts just because it is a free press.
