I couldn't finish Ayn Rand's tomb either. I couldn't get beyond John Galt's sudden 20 page speech out of nowhere. It's a bit dry too. The only book of hers I finished was Anthem.
Although, in my college ethics course, we did read some works by Rand, but they weren't the focus of the curriculum. I don't mind reading them, becuas she has influenced many people, if the curriculum focuses on developing an understanding of the worldviews, opposing ethical theories people actually employ. People should be taught how to evaluate them, deal with them. I wouldn't force anyone to believe it.
We had some articles and a text she wrote and we critically evaluated it, did a historical research on it. It was useful, given prior I never even knew they existed and actually promoted this stuff. I guess it's somewhat useful knowing they exist, what they think, so if you encounter them.
Corporations pushing Ayn Rand on universities.
