Dreamworks aquires rights Ghost in the Shell Live Action, 3D
Article from Variety
Interesting. Not sure about the 3-D thing, but it is indeed interesting.
I'll remain optimistic until a director is announced.

Assuming he has a gender change operation, a nationally change operation and a mood-change operation then of course, he's perfect.VF5SS wrote:So since Speilberg is attached to this, is Tom Hanks going to play the Major?

If it does happen it's probably going to rely on the lame preachiness of the first movie. I'd hope for them to aim more for the series, (not like SAC is jewel encrusted either) being the lesser of two evils since it manages to get in some decent fights and some of the CSI murder mystery stuff is ok until they get to the explanation part which usually ends up being the same thing as the last guy.
Best care anywhere.

It was joke, man. It's not like they're gonna cast anyone from Japan hahaMr Bean wrote: Assuming he has a gender change operation, a nationally change operation and a mood-change operation then of course, he's perfect.
I really hope this movie sticks true to the manga and has Shirow giving random asides as to the make of the weapons Batou is using and what sandwich he is eating.

As was I, can't you guess from the nationally change operation bit?VF5SS wrote:It was joke, man. It's not like they're gonna cast anyone from Japan hahaMr Bean wrote: Assuming he has a gender change operation, a nationally change operation and a mood-change operation then of course, he's perfect.

On another note, I loved the English voices from Stand-Alone Complex, but no idea if the actors behind them could play the rolls.

I can see it now. throughout the entire movie, a little 2 ft tall Shirow sprite babbles at the audience about utterly pointless crap while drowning out cyberpunk suspense.VF5SS wrote:It was joke, man. Then one of the DVD extras is the movie without Shirow's commentary.

This is the last thing I wanted to read while I have the flu. The producer is some comic book movie twat and the writer is some hack who does movies about black gangstas ranting and barking and beating their chests about how the hood is all out warfare and the toughest place in the world, etc, etc. Somebody put the lid on this stinker when you take it out to the curb.

It doesn't happen so much inf Ghost in the Shell or even Appleseed (that's just robot beefcake), but watch out for any of his artbooks. They'll most likely involve some kind of Minotaur beast having fun with Shirow's shiny women.

I can see the publicity sheet now...
"Steven Spielburg's re-envisioning of the seminal anime classic Ghost in the Shell stars Bruce Willis as Batou, a middle-aged cyborg cop mourning the loss of his wife Motoko, while still having to raise his son Togusa (played by Shia LaBouf)."

Or alien things.
Or weird mutant men with tentacle hands.
Or just plain weird things.
Still, the lesbian threesome in the Ghost in the Shell book was nice. If that made it on the big screen, I'd watch it. (yeah right)

I liked the first two 'Spider-Man' movies, but thought the third sucked. I liked the first two 'X-Men' movies, and have yet to see the third, but from what I heard, it sucked. I also heard the two 'Fantastic Four' movies sucked.TithonusSyndrome wrote:This is the last thing I wanted to read while I have the flu. If we're lucky, we'll get two awesome live-action 'Ghost In the Shell' before some jackass writer and director turns the third movie into a crime against nature. If we're unlucky, we'll get reminders of how NOT to make a comic book movie, as the 'Fantastic Four' films apparently were.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Didn't Ridley Scott already make a live-action Ghost in the Shell movie 25 years ago?

He obviously did a terrible job, since it was nowhere near pretentious enough and didn't spend NEARLY enough screen time on shots of Tokyo skylines with screeching 'music'!Drooling Iguana wrote:Didn't Ridley Scott already make a live-action Ghost in the Shell movie 25 years ago?
