I don't know what is worse: your video or this picture.
There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible … Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between drug warriors and child molesters.” - Jacob Sullum

While amusing, I didn't know you had to know the location of something in order to feel like you should protest or otherwise gripe about it. Whether or not you agree with the protests, I don't believe actually knowing where Tibet is is a prerequisite to campaigning for its independence.

That said, I wish more people did have a little bit of geopolitical knowhow.

The photo on the other hand, looks fake. Although, of course, it makes an amusing point, to be sure.

I'm going to admit that if someone gave me a map and told me to point out Tibet, I wouldn't be 100% sure where exactly it was - I've got a general idea but I can't visualize where it is specifically.

But then, I'm not out on the streets protesting over Tibet and I wasn't part of the high school clique that thought the Dalai Lama was the greatest thing since literary criticism, so... *shrug*

Stupid people support something. Ergo, it must be abandoned. Quick, abandon every scientific theory because somewhere, an idiot believes and supports them.

Well, the Nazis were not violently cracking down on riots at the same moment, were they?

Well, my point was if you're going to protest something at least fucking learn about it. Sorry, but if you're going going say "free country X" but you can't even find that country on a map then you're probably a bandwagoning douche who's just protesting because that's the in thing to do.

Unless you count the things they were doing to the Jews on the side, yes. Unless you count the Night of the Long Knives, etc. The Nazis did keep things 'pretty' while the Olympics were in town.

1) Neither are the Chinese far as I can tell.
2) They were already marginalizing the Jews and other "undesirables".

But if you are to believe the official story of what happened recently in Tibet, it would be more akin to Jewish youths randomly attacking German civilians and shops, not the oppressive government.

Tibet is more an example of how people will jump on the issue of the day, be it Tibet, climate change, IvP, the War on Terror, etc., without really knowing anything about the issue.

Unless you count the things they were doing to the Jews on the side, yes.
Which was perceived to be way less of an issue during those times.
Unless you count the Night of the Long Knives, etc.
Which was widely taken to be a purge of criminals and thugs with some "mistakes" during that time.
The Nazis did keep things 'pretty' while the Olympics were in town.

Well, yeah. However, they didn't break out the riot police and declared martial law, did they? That is a whole different level.

Everyone is jumping on the Tibet bandwagon because they're too fucking stupid to realize that ethnic and religious separatism have caused an enormous amount of death, destruction, and grief in the last century, and celebrating those "worthy causes" in Tibet is no more valid than it is anywhere else. As bad as the Chinese government may be, I'm pretty sure that if we gave yet another ethnic and religious separatist movement what it wanted, the long-term results would be worse.

I think everyone needs to watch the Penn & Teller's Bullshit episode on the Dalai Llama. Both sides are fucking scumbags.

But with all that said, Nepal shall be voluntarily joining China shortly seeing as the Maoist's were just elected with a majority gov't there...

I hope you're being sarcastic. Last I heard, the CCP wanted NOTHING to do with the "Maoists" in Nepal, because they thought the Nepalese rebels were giving them a bad name.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

China's economy is a weird blend. I was reading a textbook on the Chinese economy, and while they have a growing private sector, they still maintain a large "public sector." But then they have something called the collective network, which is a really large group of public collectives owned and operated by workers or specific town units. It's somewhat like a system of worker cooperatives.

It's interesting, to say the least.

After the Maoists got into the government, they're no longer "terrorist" IIRC, and Nepal's king was ousted. As to how "Maoist" they are, it remains to be seem. Quite probably they would just milk India's commie parties for money, for their great success in Nepal.

The Maoist are a highly patriotic bunch though. Transferring Nepal's sovereignty kind of dynamites one of the main pillars of their public support.

The CCP would also have to worry about the Nepali Maoists spreading stuff like equitable distribution of wealth around the Chinese countryside. Fat chance of that happening.
