Hey all, I want to tell ya something. When I booted up my laptop everything went as normal but there was only a blank black screen like the screen wasn't working. I rebooted it a few times before it got back working. My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6000 and I've heard a few reviews of these PCs slowly dying part by part because of it being made of cheap parts.
I want to ask, is my computer on the verge of dying because of this and should I invest in an external hard drive or a second laptop just in case it does?
Is my computer starting to die?

Yeah that’s a pretty good sign some hardware is starting to fail, you should certainly make backups of any important data you have on that machine. But then you really should already being doing that, because no computer no matter how new or well setup is a completely secure and reliable data storage system.

It certainly sounds like it's crapping out on you. Even if it isn't, getting an external harddrive is good. I've got a SimpleTech 320gig external harddrive and am quite happy with it. You'll be able to back everything you want to back up in a few minutes.
Anyway, companies like HP make (IMO) shitty laptops and desktops. When you get a new one, get something that's a bit higher end. I've heard good things about Acer, Sager, Alienware, and Macbooks. So find a nice laptop for a reasonable price and look at reviews for it. Cheap ass laptops are cheap because they're either behind the times, made using low quality parts, or both.

Sig images are for people who aren't fucking lazy.
HP's business line and the Lenovo ThinkPad are two of the most highly-regarded laptop lines on the market for normal use.
Acer, Sager, Alienware, Dell, etc. are generally not that well made, though Dell Latitude is not too bad. Apple has good industrial design and OS X but their actual construction isn't as good as the top two.

The Latitude cases probably aren't as bad as some, but they still flex enough that I've had to have the mainboard in my Latitude replaced 3 times now, and I've heard of others having to have theirs changed (while still under warranty) up to 5 times.
