Bizarre joystick problem

Post by Losonti Tokash »

So what happened is I tried using my Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick a bit ago. It installed fine when I plugged it in, but when I went to calibrate it, Vista freaked the fuck out to the point where even task manager was hanging and wouldn't open. So I rebooted, and the computer is back to normal. Except that now it refuses to detect my joystick and when I try to manually install it, I get an error message saying I'm at my max amount of controllers and need to uninstall some. Unfortunately, there are none to get rid of.

I've spent a couple hours looking all over the internet for a solution and I've got jack. Any of you have an idea?

I presume you installed the drivers it came with?

A quick google search: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830552/en-us

I can't install the drivers. That's kind of a big part of the problem, since Vista won't allow me to add any more controllers.

Besides, it initially installed with no problems, and the link you posted specifically says to ignore it if you're using Vista. :P

All right, I figured out what was wrong. Apparently when I tried to calibrate the joystick, it fried itself.
