Is this virus warning crap?

Post by Zaia »

My friend just received an email stating a virus called jdbgmgr.exe might have infected his hard drive and asked me if it was for real, so I thought I'd come to you guys. The email (which sounds like a bunch of shit to me) says that the virus is not detected by Norton or McAfee and that it sits around for 14 days before damaging the system. THEN it reads: "It is sent automatically by messenger and by address book, whether or not you sent emails to your contacts." Errr, wtf?

Anyway, this sounds like shite to me. Is it?

Always, always check virus rumours at symantec first. I make it a habit of replying to people who send hoaxes around with the correct info and relevant links, in an attempt to minimize their spread.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I think people who waste time creating computer virus or spreading rumors about virus should get a life.

I would prefer they get a death.

When I had win2k a while back, I received the same email and tried to delete that file repeatedly. Fortunately it kept on resurrecting itself so I didn't run into any system problems.

On an off-topic note: I just had to chase down the fastest spider I've ever encountered. I tried to squish it with a napkin and it crawled in between the crevices and when I lifted the napkin the spider clung to it with some web. Then it dropped onto my desk then dropped to the floor (about a little over 3 feet) via web strand in less than 1.5 seconds. That was one fast spider

One of the reasons I had to format Sarah (besides Win ME getting corrupt) was because I had at least two different viruses on it. One of them could have been that Elkern thing.

Come to think of it, Win ME might have been corrupted by them in the first place...

Your computer has a name?
I remember getting my old ME comp infected with a few trojans; most of them intentionally. I THINK I cleaned them all out, but the comp was always slow after that...

Well, my computer's harddrive is named James(My name....is James!) after an inside joke with one of my friends but the rest of the computer is nameless.

People, stop spamming, else the mods close it down.

Anyway, I've had this computer for a few years now, I haven't had any virus problems yet. I probably should get virus protection to protect my porn stash, but oh well.
