A Star Wars Droid of your own (RAR!)

Post by Zor »

A fairly straightforward thread.

One day, Q apears before you in a flash of light. While you expect to be sent off somewhere to do some rather silly and dangerous task for his amusement, he tells you that he has decided to give you a gift of a Droid from the star wars universe. The guift itself has no hidden clauses, but a couple of basic rules.

1-It has to be from the established Cannon/EU, no fan works or models
2-It can not be armed (as in having a direct weapon installed, if you as for a B1 Battle Droid, you will get one without the blaster rifle)
3-It must mass less than ten tonnes
4-Guri is off limits

For matinence, a shop in your general area with some WEB Treadwell droids protected by being otherwise low key and having an apathy field that detures unwanted attention and a six month free of charge check up and repair card.

So what do you take?

A torture droid. I would then tell it to find and torture Zor.

More seriously, a medical droid. I have it write everything it knows (obviously, a model with extensive knowledge of such) about the manufacture of space-age drugs down, and put GlaxoSmithKline and the like out of business. And I improve the world while doing so.

For now, I also would take a medical droid, I really need one.

A hyperdrive-enabled probe droid (and any accompanying required technology at home to receive its data).

Just imagine the possibilities. While we no doubt will be incapable of reverse engineering so advanced a device as its hyperdrive, it will doubtlessly spark new directions in research. Quite apart from its ability of actually flying out there and examining the universe.

HK-47 of course, so I could engage in witty banter all day

No, I think I'd go for one of the Vuffi Raa-type models. The research advancements he could potentially provide towards man made bush droids would be of considerable interest to plenty of scientists, I'd think. Plus, he seemed like such a swell guy, who wouldn't want a buddy like Vuffi Raa?

I second either the 9.9 ton World Devastator or HK47. The World Devestator doesn't start with weapons, but I can just make it build weapons. The first place to fall victim to the World Devastator... Beverly Hills.

Yeah, you might want to distinguish between droids and mechanical people.

The medical droid is tempting, but most astromechs come programmed with the exhaustive ins and outs of hyperdrive-equipped, ultra-high performance spacecraft. Yes, please. SW biotech is weaksauce by comparison.

Do world devastators come in 9.9 tonnes and count as driods?

Me maybe Protocole or astromech droid IF I can get it outfitted with history, legends and technology in it's data banks.

Then make a fortune writing stores to form myself a small buisness then start patenting and inventing machines to gain more capital and start developing robots untill the world is brought up to Star Wars Tech level.

I can use my 9.9 tonne world devastator to consume LA, and build me all the droids the rest of you have already named. And more.

R2-D2 himself. Sure, using a droid's knowledge to reverse engineer things and such for the betterment of humanity would be good, but how much of that would really work out? Do doctors tend to know the intimate details of the manufacturing processes of the drugs they use? Why would a medical droid? Same goes for astromechs that are skilled at repairing hyperdrives, repulsorlifts, etc.

So, I get R2-D2 to try some of that, but also just to make friends with the guy. He's pretty cool, and even if the reverse engineering doesn't work out, I'd still enjoy having him around and hanging out.

Do mechanics have the memory for the plans of a 160 kilometer battlestation?
Why would a medical droid?
Like I said, I would specify one with such knowledge. Be it a 2-1B, or a Drug-manufacture-plant-supervisory-droid.

Err. They are. That's basically their job.

Making, no so much, but repairing, hell yeah.

Which would be useless without the vast manufacture facilities around black holes to start off with. You'd want one that's actually programmed with the history of spaceflight and obsolete mechanisms used in early space travel. I think it'd be rather easier to find a medical droid that's proficient in synthesising a drug repetoire. Though it'd not be impossible to find one programmed with that either - perhaps one that works as a junk/antiques assessor.

8t-88 might be the right general idea there - though obviously he himself would be rather dangerous to have around - but a university database administrator droid...

One of these might be useful, if you can decide what it's loaded with.

Yeah, kiss your droid goodbye buddy. Two different galaxies. It's hyperspace routes would all be useless and you would never get it back.

I would go for HK-47.

Even without a weapon, he is still a trained assassin droid with a hefty amount of experience so he makes the perfect body guard. Supposedly, HK-47 can serve as a general translator droid and his personnality is definetly going to be fun to have around. That said, he could cause problems with such a personnality by pissing off people he meets etc.

Not true, it just wouldn't know any shortcuts and would have to chart, jump, chart, jump its way along. How do you think they find routes in the first place?

With hundreds and thousands, probably billions, of probe droids and exploration ships, not just ONE.

You stated the probe droid would necessarily be lost. That's not true. The hyperdrive is completely usable in an unfamiliar galaxy. You just have to look before you leap. That it would be inexorably slow going with very short jumps is irrelevant.
