Ironic Attack in GTA4 quee

Man Stabbed walking past line
Stab attack at Grand Theft queue

A man was stabbed in front of a queue of people waiting to buy the latest edition of a computer game.

Up to 100 people witnessed the knife attack outside the Gamestation store in Croydon, ahead of Monday's midnight release of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was walking past the queue when he was stabbed several times by a hooded man who appeared to be waiting in line.

The victim was treated in hospital and has since been allowed home.

After the attack at about 2300 BST in George Street the victim did not call the emergency services but police were informed by a member of the public.

He was found not far from the store and taken to hospital where he was treated for several stab wounds.

'Many' witnesses

Det Insp Liz Baker urged anyone who was in the queue to contact them.

She said: "We are looking at CCTV from the area and believe there were in the region of 50 to 100 people in the queue.

"We are sure many of them will have seen what happened."

The suspect is described as being a light skinned black man aged about 21, 6ft 5ins tall, of medium build wearing a light grey hooded top.

Grand Theft Auto IV went on sale at midnight at selected shops in the UK.

It was expected to break records for the fastest-selling game of all time .
Never mind the fact that the stabber was unique enough to be newsworthy, no this is going to be fodder for the next six months for video-game 'activists'.

Not that anti-video game harpies will care, but this sounds as though it didn't have much to do with the game, unless there are details yet to be revealed. It sounds almost as though the hooded stranger had a vendetta to settle and chose an inconspicuous spot in the open to wait for him.

Mind you, that doesn't seem especially likely, because that level of forethought and planning seems beyond the likes of a person to commit a stabbing with dozens of witnesses around.

I remember there were hold-ups outside of stores around the PS3 launch. The way the stories were written, you'd think they stole the PS3s, but the thieves simply knew that there would be an appreciable volume of money in that area.

In the UK version of the game, do you drive on the left?

What kind of a retarded question is that? No, really.

The game is set in a fictional rendition of New York which has been in existence since the very first GTA. Why not ask if everyone speaks with British accents too, it makes as much sense.

There are no regional differences. And the game's Scottish in origin anyway.

As for this douche of a stabber, hooray for tarnishing the release that little bit. It was nice to see on Breakfast on BBC this morning a game's guru and a reviewer shoot down the "But what will children do after playing this?" and "When you play such games, do you have an urge to commit violent acts afterwards?" bullshit. If kids are playing an 18 rated game, then that's the retailer or parents' fault. As for the violence, I sure as hell can list off a few names of people I know over the years who never felt the need to commit murder or grand theft auto after playing an exciting game.

The fact that it's set in fake-New York didn't occur to you?

Well it just goes to show how dangerous GTA4 is if it turns people into violent criminals before they've even bought it never mind played it.

I wonder why, in the American produced James Bond films, they didn't drive on the right side of the road in the scenes in London. I mean, it was produced in the US and all, *I'm a smarmy asshole*?

It wouldn't be that hard to ship "UK editions" with minor AI adjustments if Rockstar were a bunch of stupid people, but it'd look stupid as hell in a faux New York.

Probably played the first three games. It is number 4 after all.

Interestingly enough, I also read about cases of UPS employees stealing from shipments of GTA4. With something this desirable and this much money around, yeah, it's no wonder this shit happens.

Well, in *any* GTA game, you're more than welcome to drive on the other side of the road no matter where you are.

Of course, that may or may not get you into trouble depending on how much traffic there is and how bad of an in-game driver you are.

I was always disappointed how violating traffic laws doesn't attract the attention of the police in the GTA III series. Not even running red lights. :)

Anyway, *yawn*. Let me know when it comes out on PC.

None, the victim didn't die.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Play a game called Mafia. You'll quickly understand the decision Rockstar made when you get pulled over 50 times when driving to a mission by cops because you were going a mile or 2 above the speed limit.

There are. Gamers in Australia and New Zealand have to put up with a censored version of the game, because Australia doesn't have an R rating for games, and wouldn't accept it as it was originally presented.

You mean you can't argue with the cop that you were just a few miles above the limit? There isn't even any leeway?

That's the game I want to play: Ticket Evaders.

Turns out the story is complete horsehsit.
By Iain Thomson VNU Net - Wednesday, April 30 05:33 pm

The storm over a stabbing outside a Croydon games store that was selling Grand Theft Auto may turn out to be a media panic.

Early reports suggested a 23-year-old man was stabbed by a hooded man waiting with 100 others in line outside Gamestation store in Croydon, which began selling the new grand Theft Auto game at midnight.

But it has since emerged that the stabbing did not take place outside the store and had nothing to do with the people queuing for the popular game.

"The victim had categorically not pre-ordered the game and GameStation is confident that he was not a GameStation customer; neither was he a part of the queue outside the Croydon store, a source told the Games Radar blog.

The source also said that the stabbing did not occur outside the store, but a quarter of a mile away outside East Croydon station.

Police have described the attacker as a light skinned black man aged about 21, 6ft 5ins tall, of medium build wearing a light grey hooded top.

The victim is recovering in hospital.

Shit, I drive on the left side of the road in the US version of the game, sometimes I am even up on the sidewalk.
