Invincible SPOILERS - for those that are interested

Yeah, James Luceno is always entertaining. The only EU I'm looking forward to in the near future, however, is The Force Unleashed. I can't wait for that game. I might get the book if I hear good things about it. I've already bought the Evolutions 3-pack of The Secret Apprentice (Secret Apprentice, Sith Lord, Jedi Knight) because it looked awesome.

I was speaking of SW as a whole.DEATH wrote:You actually started it? . The Dark nest trilogy was the point where I said "Fuck this, TUF was the best the EU had left, it's going downhill from here". And I was right.Ender wrote:Wow, talk about phoning it in. Glad I walked away from this series a long time ago.

As loathsome as it is, I find at least some morbid justification in Daala's (most likely horrible and inefficient) future reign: when the Empire rises again, they have a very visible being to rally against.
For those who would otherwise be loyal to the Galactic Alliance, they can say "They made She Who Loathes Aliens And Kills Them Out Of Spite a chief of state"; and to the hardline Imperials they can say "The Alliance made She Who Kills Imperial Leadership Out Of Spite its chief of state". And thus the Brain-Damaged Admiral's Native American name shall restore the galaxy to sanity.
However, there is still no way in Satan's Hell that I'm going to buy this excretion. I can't imagine WHY the Imperials wouldn't break away from the Alliance at first opportunity since Daala killed many of their leaders in the last book and now becomes a CHIEF OF STATE. I did find the idea of Fett-killer nanovirus humorous, though. Mr Traviss must be wailing somewhere like the mythogolical banshee.

Nitpick, but assuming that I recall the events in Darksaber correctly, Daala was a Species' Rights girl and let the aliens into the Imperial apparatus. That, and all she did to quite thoroughly kriff up the Imperial Remnants, could well be used by her supporters (this, of course, assuming that she has any) to paint the picture that she was really against the Empire all along, sabotaging them and giving them badwill, et cetera.
(Of course, this gives the Empire more reason to hate her, not less...)
And the Mandalorian-killing virus looks hilarious! Let us just hope that was not a joke. At some points we actually get something useful out of the authors hating each others' parts of the series...

A hidden menace that threatens the entire galaxy? Didn't see that one coming!QuentinGeorge wrote:By all indications, their quest should be safe, innocent: something to keep them interested and busy. But as they piece together the clues of the past, hints of a more profound mystery begin to reveal themselves, and a faceless threat lies in wait--one that has already launched a tentative assault not only on the Jedi Order, but on the Force itself.
Seriously man, when are Jaina, Leia, and Luke gonna combine the Millenium Falcon, a Blockade Runner, and an X-wing to form the Jedi Megazord to take down the Galactic Threat of the Week?

Wow, what shit. That almost sounded like a neat wrap-up except for the Daala thing. (And the fact that Jaina probably uses some 'Mando" technique FTW.)
I do sort of like the idea of the Mando-killing virus only because their genetic diversity must SUCK. They've been massacred so many times that's like three genetic bottlenecks in the past 25K years.
With Luceno writing the Falcon book I am CAUTIOUSLY intrigued.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal. -Tanasinn

My blog, please check out and comment! http://decepticylon.blogspot.comGod dammit. I LIKED the NJO series, I really did. I thought it was a pretty worthy reboot of the franchise, with a pretty interesting spin on combining both old and new characters. I even made it through the Dark Nest series. It got pretty tolerable by the end really. However, I just couldn't make myself read this LOTF crap, and now I guess I'm sad to see it went so far down the tubes. I think I made it through the first two or three, and haven't even touched the series since. How unfortunate.
While I hope it's the end of the Mando'Dando'Ade' (it was even hinted over at TFN that Boba Fett walks away from the Mandalorians), one shouldn't draw hastily conclusions...Darth Hoth wrote:And the Mandalorian-killing virus looks hilarious! I do hope making Daala CoS was a joke...

I've voiced a similiar feeling since 2003, but never fully committed myself to that belief. But after the dreck of the last two years? Absolutely.Coiler wrote:Does anyone else agree with me that the post RoTJ EU should have conclusively, definetely, and finally ended with TUF?
I once again state my sentiments to restart the EU.
Pick up from right after ROTJ. If Lucasfilm didn't make it, or it isn't directly linked to the films or cartoons, i.e. Visual Dictionaries, Incredible Cross Sections, novelizations, then it is out. No hard feelings. Thanks everyone for a good job.
If the same authors or characters are reused that's fine, but have some guidelines and rules to character direction, amount of use. Rules on scale and numbers and minimalism. Etc.

But everything that's come out since Del Rey regained the franchise? I would be hard-pressed to argue against that...

Daala's acceptance speech:
"What can I add that has not already been said here today? If this war has taught us anything, it is that we all lose when we fight.. My friends, the time has come to try a new way--"
*insert thunderous applause here*

"My friends, it is my promise to you here today that sometime in the not-too-distant future, we will live in a galaxy where our space navies exist to better our societies, not defend them--where we won't need Jedi to sort out our differences and mete out justice, because we are living under a government that is just."

Boba and Mirta pretty much have to never return to Mandalore, so Goran Beviin (you know, the homosexual Mando) becomes Mandalore.
Even so, there's plenty of Mandos still on the planet with Fett DNA, including those ex-clones and their own children (like Gotab) who should die suitably horrible deaths.

So...what? Galactic Republic 4.0? The OR failed. The NR failed. The GFFA/GA failed. What makes anyone in that galaxy think that yet another iteration of the same tried and failed formula will work any better?
EDIT: OK, I suppose technically the GA hasn't failed, but they did have that whole Civil War thing. So yeah. Galactic Republic 3.5 I guess.
Seriously, I'm thinking the SW galaxy needs something like the Empire. Just without the damned Sith mucking things up (Legacy era) or trying to suck out everyone's souls or whatever (Palpatine).

That was a Rebel propaganda piece, there is no objectve evidence that that was actually Palpatine's goal.RogueIce wrote:So...what? Galactic Republic 4.0? The OR failed. The NR failed. The entirety of the Dark Empire Sourcebook is not a Rebel propaganda piece. The "Why we fight" piece is, but that's only part of the DESB. Furthermore, the Dark Side Sourcebook (a third-person omniscient account) confirms Palpatine's goals.Darth Hoth wrote:That was a Rebel propaganda piece, there is no objectve evidence that that was actually Palpatine's goal.

Isn't Daala the one who planned on ramming a star destroyer into Coruscant at full flank speed and detonating its core in the upper atmosphere out of spite and hatred?
