Come to think of it again, a government media will not work because unlike some country where the government never change hands, the US government and leadership swing from left to right.

And think of the abuse that can be done by a government media.
Uh...Goverment media defined as goverment funded media stations work perfectly fine. BBC is a classic example, NPR is (as far as I know) goverment funded radio station that manages to strike a moderate tone. Channel 1 in Israel is a publically funded goverment station that spends half it's time attacking the current goverment.

And the Government takes it. If only the U.S. Media would the same.
The Goverment has no choice but to take it up the ass, otherwise it'd get crucified. Israeli Journalism has quite a few faults, such as fellating the concept of Israel as a whole. But fear of criticisng the goverment is not it. Though I might be focusing on just the current era, when bashing Olmerts corrupt goverment is about the easiest game in town.

I would say the same about McCain, given how unpopular he is with his own party.

I think that leaves us with the crazy third parties. Can SDNet stage a coup of one?

Hey look, you ignored my rebuttal and attacked instead with classic 'Rar, you're SirNitram, you suck'. Vintage Hemlock. Going to address the factors I listed, or just pretend you can't see them?
What are you talking about? I was never even arguing with you in the first place! For christ sakes, I even acknowledged that your prediction was a distinct possibility. You manufactured this argument out of thin air because apparently if I'm not 100% behind your premise I must be attacking it, so you can up with some ridiculous distortion of what I had actually said to make it seem as if we were in a heated debate.

Am I actually retarded, or can anyone else see this?

I made a statement. You replied thus:
What are you suggesting? That as soon as the nomination is settled McCain will slip back down to second-place status?
And I replied.
That McCain has a fucking anemic campaign, as illustrated by the fact he's back on Public Financing, he ditched a fundraiser on rumours off an Arab Hater's drunken ramblings, and that he's widely seen as Bush's do-over. That's what I'm suggesting. He's had a free ride.
Whine about 'heated debate' all you want.. Indeed, you seem to take some joy in grandstanding about such.. I pointed out reasons why my estimation was quite likely. You simply ignored it. Heaven forbid someone expect you to answer them! You're HemlockGrey; you are beyond such!

Just like how you're beyond actually answering how there's a contradiction in your knee-jerk characterization about Obama supporters.

In short, yes, I'd say you're retarded.

George Orwell wrote that the Soviet advisors in the Spanish Civil War twisted reality to the point that it was like looking through a hall of mirrors. This is exactly what I feel like when I read your posts.

I said in my first post that your idea was a possibility! I didn't reply to your reasons because I wasn't disputing them! My only assertion was that the bitterness of the Democratic campaign might badly cripple Obama, but that either outcome was likely! I wasn't arguing with you, which is why I didn't reply. Later, when I was talking about the pessimism-optimism disconnect, you came in with some snide mischaracterization of my original statement.

And another thing...
Just like how you're beyond actually answering how there's a contradiction in your knee-jerk characterization about Obama supporters.
You know, I don't think you actually have any critical thinking skills at all. I think you're just smart enough to figure out the positions and opinions of the people on this board who are legitimately intelligent, and just smart enough to parrot them, but not smart enough to actually understand them. I don't think you comprehend nuance or shades of meaning, which is why you interpreted my comment on a single specific Obama supporters on this message board to be "a kneejerk characterization of Obama supporters". At first I just thought this was malicious distortion, but now I just think you're not smart enough to know better.

How about a little less stupid grandstanding, accusing me of being a Soviet advisor-style hallucinator, a little more admission that I put forth reasons why the two should not be considered equal(Or, shockingly, putting forth reasons that rebutt them!), and how about some.. At all.. Response to my actual post, and you showing the contradiction you apparently won't detail? I'm sure you think some imaginary audience is applauding, but this is pathetic to watch you do.

To make a post that's, shockingly, on-topic:

CBS/NYT Poll - Full results, PDF WARNING
IF THE CANDIDATES WERE..., WHO WOULD YOU VOTE FOR? (Among registered voters)
Now 4/30 4/3/08
Obama 51% 45% 47%
McCain 40 45 42
Undecided/DK 5 6 7
Obama's back up. So is Clinton, despite now promoting McCain's gas tax.
IF THE CANDIDATES WERE..., WHO WOULD YOU VOTE FOR? (Among registered voters)
Now 4/30 4/3/2008
Clinton 53% 48% 48%
McCain 41 43 43
Undecided/DK 3 5 5
Not sure what changed between April 28-30 and May 1-3, but it might be the arising of ads hitting McCain on policies and his 100 Years quote.

What's interesting is that all the changes but Obama v. McCain between April 30th and May 3rd are within MoE. Everything but that number can be written off as statistically insignifigant, but Obama broke the MoE recently.

Still, far, far, far too early before the General for this to be a clincher, but it's interesting how quick the shift was.

Those figures would work a lot better if the CODE BBcode were used:

Code: Select all

IF THE CANDIDATES WERE..., WHO WOULD YOU VOTE FOR? (Among registered voters)

                Now Apr 30 Apr 3
Obama 51% 45% 47%
McCain 40% 45% 42%
Undecided/DK 5% 6% 7%

                Now Apr 30 Apr 3
Clinton 53% 48% 48%
McCain 41% 43% 43%
Undecided/DK 3% 5% 5%
Without proper formatting, it looks like hell and is hard to understand.

If Guam winds up deciding our next President, I might just throw in the towel and go jump in a lake/margarita for a couple of days.

I fear it will be Rush Limbaugh, not Guam, who ends up tipping the balance. Which is even worse.

Guam went by a mere seven votes to Obama. Hillary's mighty one-day winning streak is crushed.

God, I was sick of this is December and it's still going.

What admission are you looking for? That you had a valid point? I "admitted" that in my first fucking post! Just look at this:
I wrote:What are you suggesting? That as soon as the nomination is settled McCain will slip back down to second-place status? That's a possibility, but so is the bitterness of the Democratic race seriously crippling the eventual nominee/Obama. I don't think anyone can really say how it'll go at this point.
You wrote:Perhaps it comes from the same non-logic that says running unopposed is identical to running with opposition.
You made a complete strawman out of what I had tried to say and now you absolutely refuse to admit it. You took a single specific observation about how one Obama supporter on this board's pessimism clashed with Obama's optimism and you turned it into "a kneejerk characterization about Obama supporters". Do you understand what "kneejerk" means? Do you even understand the concept of singular versus plural?

You do this in every god damn thread and I'm fucking tired of it. What's pathetic is that someone without any faculty for actual thought allows himself such an enormous ego that he will never admit when he's made a mistake.[/quote]
