Booze recommendations....

Post by MKSheppard »

For some strange reason, i CANNOT stand the taste of beer, whether it
be Budweisers, coors, or evein Heiniken's.

It all tastes like bitter piss to me.

I'm thinking of going for the hard liquors instead of the pissy beers. Are
there any alcoholic substances that go down sweet and smooth?

Malibu. Reeeeally smooth.

Also (this isn't hard liquor, but bear with me) try Jack Daniel's Downhome Punch, Lynchburg Lemonade, etc. The downhome punch especially is REALLY good, and although it's yummy, it doesn't have the rep of being a girlie drink because it's made by J.D., it's got more alcohol than malt beverages, and it tastes so good guys just deal with it. You used to have to buy it in expensive four-packs, but now they have it in big containers. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :D

Ok, off to bed for real this time. 'Night all.

No brand name I have ever found. To have it you must make it or know someone who does make it.

Good old Rum, MK. If your tired of "bitter" than how about burnt sugar for a change :D . Its one of my favorites. Spiced Rum in Coke, Pepsi, DR P, or splurge and get some Dakeri mix.

However on the beer front, I don't think you have devirsified much by your list. Try Samuel Adam's, Fosters, Beck's, Killian's, and for a punch to the mouth, Red Horse. Though the last one is from the PI so I don't know it you can get some.

Cheers.

They are OK, but Doc's Hard Lemonade is better. IMHO.

Wow, mead...you mean there are companies that make it...cool

As for Lemonade...Mike is decent if not a tad sweet, Jack's is pretty good, but somewhat eh...Doc for some reason is a bit too sour and has too much alcohol aftertaste.

For some reason I like the Doc Hard Orange(only it's hellish to find)

As for going down smooth hard stuff...

Some decent cocktails...but Rum or a nice aged whiskey.

Or you could go for Grand Marneir or Cognac.

Whew, never could do Cognac. Scotch is a real good drink, and one that makes you slow down and sip at it to enjoy it.

Ok, one of my favorite subjects, BOOZE!

Mead- I don't know if Moniak's is available in the U.S., but Chaucer's is. Comes with it's own little spice pack around the neck of the bottle to make hot spiced Mead. Best damned stuff I ever tasted.

Port- Not your average wine. Stay away from anything less than $17 a bottle, though. Any wine that's 40 proof cannot be considered pussified. Try Fonseca Bin. 27 or Taylor Fladgate First Estate Special Reserve. Best damned stuff I ever tasted.

Scotch- Single malts are best, but if you have to, even Johnny Walker's Red is decent.Best damned stuff I ever tasted.

Drambuie- Cloyingly sweet scotch based liqueur, nectar of the gods, and it's rocket fuel. Best damned stuff I ever tasted.

Everything else is just a drink.

OK where do I start:

Vodka - wonderful alround drink, you can have it straight or mix it with pretty much anything.

Whiskey - Scotch is a wonderful thing, especially when served neat. But you can have too much of it, and when you backfire scotch whiskey and Pizza Hut hot'n'spicy pizza it fucking burns. Like nothing you would believe. It really isn't pleasant, trust me. Apparently its amusing as hell for everyone else as you roll around on the floor clutching at your throat and attempting to breath.

Ouzo - Brilliant stuff provided you like the aniseed taste. Goes down a treat.

Frangelico - So smooth and tasty you don't realise how pissed its making you. This is the most wonderful liquoer I've ever had.

Green Chatreuse - Try it. But don't sip, don't taste, just slam this stuff down. Unbelievably strong in both content and taste. I love it.

Midori - a little girly, but a very nice drink anyway. If you buy a girl Midori+lemonades and she still isn't happy to see you, then you better check that your face hasn't melted off.

Kahlua - a nice drink, good for mixes. Another great one to get that certain person...

Rums - not a personal favourite, but I am assured that they are really good with coke (another thing I refuse to touch).

Goon Bags - the mainstay of any student and even more winos. 4L of the cheapest nastiest wine available for less than $10. Its a sure fire way to get one fucker of a hangover.

Good Wines - can start at $15 a bottle for those rare but wonderful finds, all the way through to the ridiculous several thousand dollar per bottle wines.

More as I think of them.

Have you tried a different kind of beer e.g bavarian wheat beer isn't
that bitter compared to other beers.
Wine - the word Doux on the bottle means sweet wine, sec and demi sec
should be ok too.
Mead
Port
Longdrinks - just mix them yourself.

Vodka - Always good. See what Ando said.

Rum - Good with cola drinks and a little lemon

Cider is good (well, not all of it, obviously, but I've no idea what's available there so you're on your own)

Good wines like Ando said, but $15 is a lot for a bottle already. Some Australian wines are really good (if you like red wine), e.g. Koonunga Hill and another one with a yellow label with an eagle on it, cost around €13 here in Finland, and a lot of that (75%) is tax. Some cheap but drinkable wines would be the Gato wines from Chile, both red (Gato Negro) and white (Gato Blanco). If red, I prefer the merlot grape version to the cabernet-sauvignon.

Different spiced liqueurs make good components for vodka based drinks. Rowan-berry ones are very good.

It does if you only tast it. Beer is not to drink in snips, it is to drink in large quantities in the smallest amount of time possible. Then it will taste good. Of course, some people never get used to it.
