So over the past few months I have had this little FF12 project, and I play on this file maybe every other day for 30 minute or so.
My goal has been to level up Vaan as much as possible BEFORE speaking with Old Dalan for the first time while also fulfilling as many sidequests as possible. Right now Vaan is at Lvl 61 with 62+ hours of gameplay added in, almost every license is filled save for the extra-expensive ones such as Zodiac Spear, every rare monster and monster I have encountered has been defeated as many times as possible except for Gnoma entite, and bazaar goods obtained. I have also picked up a half dozen burning bows (best weapons until after Raithwall's tomb) a few other more advanced weapons, and a few Winged Helms.
I haven't worked on the file for the last few weeks because I have run into a little problem. Letting curiosity get the best of me I decided to try and see how fast "SuperVaan" could get through Raithwall and open up the map for me. But as soon as I enter the Palace via the Garamsythe waterway the game just...dies...
The disc quits spinning, the screen just stays black and doesn't bring up the next scene, is the file on the memory card corrupted or did I "break the game"? I'd like to think that the enemy sprites or whatever just gave up rather than be humilated but I suspect that is not the case.
Think i broke my FF12 File...

Did you make only one save file? Fool!
Alternatively try saving and running from a different card in case your memory card is dieing on you. Failing that but your head between your knees and cry at your wasted youth.

I really don't think you broke the game, because I can't for the life of me imagine how that would break the game. You did the thing with the solo-Concurrence against the werewolves in Giza, right? Yeah, you were just exploiting the normal gameplay mechanics. Not some kind of glitch. I did the same thing, although I was in the low 40s before I got bored of it. The easiest way to test this would be to make another save file near where the game craps out and test it again. Preferably on someone else's PS2. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a fluke.

Oh I have backup files, it's just that they are at level 50 and not level 60. Plus I have already beaten the game and have another save file with all characters at around 99 Just before Bahamut.Mr Bean wrote:Did you make only one save file? Fool!

There is no reason unless you're having fun, killing Dive Talons with a Burning Bow is incredibly easy. Negalmuur takes WAAAAY too long, I level up quicker by chaining Dark Skeletons in the Nabreus Deadlands and then eventually moving up to those tougher bats in the Henne Mines, more entertaining too.Vendetta wrote:Especially since there's no reason to powerlevel early on in FF12, because you can eventually set up an auto-levelling loop against Negalmuur which can take you to level 99 with no player interaction (it takes about a week, so you don't want to be sitting and watching it)
I started that way because that is what I did in my first game, then I moved on to chaining Dive Talons because I managed to start getting the Burning Bow to drop (63 attack) and I was cruising on levels for the most part until level 55 or so. Also, got Vaan strong enough that he was actually doing more damage bare handed thanks to the Brawler license, but I needed the bow to fight the big birds.Darth Raptor wrote:I really don't think you broke the game, because I can't for the life of me imagine how that would break the game. All things considered it was still pretty fun, and I have older copies of the file but it isn't the same! You can tell im ridiculously bored waiting for Fable 2 and FInal Fantasy 13 to make it out.

Powering through FFXII lost a lot of its appeal the first time I got totally pwnz0r3d by BATS in the Henne Mines. With everyone at Lv. 99 etc. XII likes to cock-block powergamers because you can never get Real Ultimate Power in that game. There is always, always something stronger than you. Gambits>>>Equipment>Level. I don't think that's a bad thing mind you, and it definitely makes bringing things like Yiazmat* and Omega Mk. XII down a lot more satisfying.
*There is still no excuse for how goddamnmotherfucking LONG that battle is, though. Seriously. The first three quarters of that fight are spent reflecting on the fact that other people have lives and girlfriends. It isn't until he takes the kid gloves off that it becomes a challenge. I put the controller down and mowed the lawn during Yiazmat!

With the right stuff you can cruise through those bats, Gotta use a lot of Bubble and a lot of Curaja though.Darth Raptor wrote:Powering through FFXII lost a lot of its appeal the first time I got totally pwnz0r3d by BATS in the Henne Mines.
Tell me about it, the boss fights in ff12 were not battles of skill and power like in Ff( and before, these were just endurance contests to see if you'd turn off the machine haflway through, sort of like the first time I fought Nemesis in FFX, save for the fact that he actually was tough if you didn't use your aeons as cannon fodder and failed to resist the temptation to use overdrives.*There is still no excuse for how goddamnmotherfucking LONG that battle is, though.
