They both sounded interesting, plus for now I've got a lot of free time and extra cash.Stark wrote:Bullet Witch? Are you serious? ST:L? If I sold my 360 the only game I'd miss would be Gizzawar2. I believe Prototype is multi-platform, and it's just 'Crackdown but not shit'.

If Blu-ray is able to pick up some steam, PS3's should see an increase in sales.
I own both a Wii and a PS3. I've had both for about a year and have bought 4 games for the Wii. I haven't bought a single game for the PS3. Seriously, I just haven't seen any that interest me. Despite this, I still use the PS3 at least twice as much as the Wii. It's just an awesome media centre and I love Blu-ray. The ability to stream video from my computer alone would have made the purchase worthwhile for me.

How many people do you think are going to buy a Playstation 3 because it can play Blu-Ray discs? Honestly?Superboy wrote:If Blu-ray is able to pick up some steam, PS3's should see an increase in sales.
And a Blu-Ray reader for the 360 is pretty likely.

It's the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there, but the PS3 doesn't get advertised as a Blu-Ray player. No one shopping for a Blu-Ray player is going to glance at the video game aisle, and a salesperson isn't going to say "Hey look you can get this for $400 less" unless they have some sort of homeopathic commission.

Is the video quality from the PS3's Blu-Ray player different from a dedicated Blu-Ray player or are they the same? The reason I am asking is that a family friend said that when he played a movie from his PS3 the movie ran a bit slow and slightly blurred(?) but when he played the same movie from his Blu-Ray player everything went well. Is there an actual difference or could it be from the T.V. or some other aspect?

As a blu-ray player, the PS3 is reprogramable and has internal storage which is what is required for the later versions of the blu-ray spec.
Standalone blu-ray players are basicly bricks since you cant update them to handle the newer blu-ray spec that new disks use.

Regarding the whole Blu Ray issue, the PS3 is the most versatile player due to the mandatory internet connectivity. (Profile 1.0 and 1.1 players do not have Ethernet ports mandated into their specs) And the PS3 has the internal storage that is required as well. (iirc profile 1.0 players didn't require any internal memory, profile 1.1 players require 256 megs, and profile 2.0 players "BD live" require 1 gig of memory) So while you can likely find some SAL Blu Ray players cheaper than the PS3, they're probably discounted 1.0 players at this time. And due to the memory requirements and Ethernet port issue, you can't upgrade profiles on SALs (unless the manufacturer specifically future-proofs it). Plus, the boot times on the PS3 is quite a bit better than many if not all SALs at this point. At least from what I've heard.
Anyway, all that being said, I really don't see Sony taking the top spot in this round of the console wars. I still see and hear about the demand for Wii's from a large number of people, so the Nintendo juggernaut doesn't seem to be slowing anytime soon.
