Traviss: Mandos just as important as Jedi, Sith

Why is it apparently so goddamn admirable to be all "rar never retreat never surrender"? What's that? The Vong and Lemon'ade were almost excised from galactic history? I WONDER WHY, LOL.
Fucking stormtroopers will retreat/surrender if it's the only sane thing to do. Must be a bunch of simpering cowards, *I'm a smarmy asshole*?

Re: Traviss: Mandos just as important as Jedi, Sith
And (at least in the KOTOR games) ignoring them as a distraction from the real threat out in the Unknown Regions no less. And if I understand the KOTOR II plot elements correctly, even the Jedi who led the opposition to the Mandalorians did so more to battle-harden their fellow Jedi for the coming battle against that unknown enemy more than anything else.TC Pilot wrote:Someone should watch the Star Wars movies. Hell, even when the Jedi were fighting the Mandalorians, it was only a small portion. The rest of the Jedi Order simply ignored them. Yeah, huge threat there.
So it boils down to the Jedi considering the Mandos either an irrelevant nuisance or a set of test dummies for war games.
BTW, can someone explain the Mando "honor" wank to me? It was pretty clear from the dialogue in the KOTOR games that they just loved fighting, so much so that they were happy to attack relatively undefended, helpless civilians if the opportunity presented itself. How the hell did "thugs and bullies" get fan-wanked into "honorable warriors"?
It's okay to kiss a nun; just don't get into the habit.
I think that pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

When was it even mentioned that Boba Fett had Mandalorian armor? Not in the movies, at least certainly not the original trilogy.
That the word "Mandalorian" is not even in the films is all you need to know to see that Traviss is talking out of her ass.

However, it was part of the developmental backstory behind the character, so it was kind of there from the beginning.DPDarkPrimus wrote:When was it even mentioned that Boba Fett had Mandalorian armor? Not in the movies, at least certainly not the original trilogy.

I liked the Mandalorians when they were a nearly extinct cult of badass warriors in a galaxy big enough to have a lot of warrior cults. Traviss's travesty is disgusting. The part that galls me the most is the family values wanking. Let's see a guy who has no family and chases criminals around the galaxy without really having a home buys a clone son who chases criminals all over the galaxy. That sounds just like the strong family values . . . . of a perpetual absentee father. What great family men.

"Oh he's got his armor from the Mandalorians an ancient race of warriors who were badass."
And then it was how many decades before Traviss came along and turned it into something else?

Traviss was hardly the first to actually call Fett A Mandalorian, instead of just being a bounty hunter wearing their armor.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Ah, but what was the backstory?Spanky The Dolphin wrote:However, it was part of the developmental backstory behind the character, so it was kind of there from the beginning.DPDarkPrimus wrote:When was it even mentioned that Boba Fett had Mandalorian armor? It's pointless bullshit manufactured by traviss.Joe Momma wrote:

made even worse by the fact that the KOTOR comic explicitly shows the mandalorians carpet-nuking an entire planet in one of the early battles of the war. Even during the clone wars and beyond the mandos are portrayed more as efficient and skilled mercenaries, who really didn't give a shit who they were killing as long as someone paid them enough. Just wait though. Give her enough time and traviss will retcon all of that away

Because if dick heads before Traviss hadn't made the leap of logic, "he wears the armor therefor he is one" she would have had nothing to "run" with.DPDarkPrimus wrote:Yes, okay, and what does that have to do with my quoted post?havokeff wrote:Traviss was hardly the first to actually call Fett A Mandalorian, instead of just being a bounty hunter wearing their armor.DPDarkPrimus wrote: Ah, but what was the backstory?

So what exactly did Nom Anor say to Boba Fett's 'offer' anyway? Is she seriously going to try and retcon the entire NJO?

Most "honorable warrior races" are dicks. The samurai and European knights rarely had few inhibitions about brutally treating anyone not of their class. The difference between how the Mandalorians describe themselves and how they behave always struck me as one of the more realistic things about them. "Nuke the insolent hippy-peasants. Enslave the survivors. They are not worthy of our consideration. We will take our war cruisers and find better foes."

Why is a Fett-style helmet in that panel? The KoTOR helmets looked rather different...at least in the game.

I liked that, the Mandolorian armor in KOTOR actually looked like armor, they had full covering, while the ones that look like Fett's armor looks less protective by comparison. Especially with the parts that look nothing more than just clothes.Anguirus wrote:Why is a Fett-style helmet in that panel? The KoTOR helmets looked rather different...at least in the game.
That or you know, there are different types of mando armor or they changed its design in the 4,000 years between KOTOR and the movies.

You'd be correct, the Mandalorians of the Great Sith War wore what was called Crusader Armour, which outwardly appeared to be made out of chitin, leather, bone, and iron; though this may just be an aesthetic design choice since we can see cables that may indicate it's powered.Darth Ruinus wrote:That or you know, there are different types of mando armor or they changed its design in the 4,000 years between KOTOR and the movies.
The KotOR armour is called Neo-Crusader armour which would seem to be a more utilitarian design and which featured a built in stealth system. The Neo-Crusaders also had a heavier Shock Trooper Armour.
The True Mandalorians, the Protectors, and the Death Watch wore Supercommando Armour, with the difference between True Mandalorians/Protectors and the Death Watch being the different helmets they use. Jango appears to have a heavily modified suit with extra plating in addition to the hidden armaments.
Though I do find one thing interesting the comic book KotOR 17 shows a Neo-Crusader with a similair helmet as the contemporary Mandalorians (Jango and Boba), so either that specific helmet has been in use for a couple millenia or more likely the basic appearance remained the same but the material composition and electronics are more modern. (Like the Stalhelme to the PASGT and MICH TC-2000 Combat Helmets)

Considering the bullshit filling the pages of the 'Star Wars: Legacy' comics, it's hard to tell what's worse: dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of Sith Lords running around (when history has REPEATEDLY shown that they'll spend more time killing each other than Jedi), or the Mando-wanking. Probably Darth Krayt's "Rule of One" and whatever magic is preventing his apprentices from ganging up on him, killing him and dismembering the body (if you must attack a Sith Lord, you MUST make sure he/she is dead), and then fighting each other for the throne.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Well my personal theory as to the reason they don't just cut him to ribbons is because he fosters a cultish obedience in his disciples. Whereas the rest of the Sith used the natural conflict in the Sith ranks to weed out the weak and made sure only the strongest and most cunning ruled, Krayt simply brainwashes everyone and if need be he has Vong tech to help him in this pursuit, setting himself up as the God of a cult of personality, this is why the older Sith Lords view him a heretic.Sidewinder wrote:Considering the bullshit filling the pages of the 'Star Wars: Legacy' comics, it's hard to tell what's worse: dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of Sith Lords running around (when history has REPEATEDLY shown that they'll spend more time killing each other than Jedi), or the Mando-wanking.
