This episode was something of an improvement over the last few, if for no other reason than it actually went somewhere.
Anders doesn't seem to know what he wants to be. I guess he's the Cylon that's horrified by death of any kind, Cylon or human. Though I'm sure he's just not sure which side he's going to jump on.
Ahh Gaeta...sucks to be everyone's tool.
I enjoyed, as ever, the Cylon perspective, and the fact that we got a lot of little tidbits on just what's going on in the Cylon world was really nice to see. Eights are tired of the Sixes and their leadership, the Leobans are considered nutters by the others, etc. Finally we get a bit more of that dynamic, it's so far this season easily the most interesting dynamic.
What was up with that Centurion? He looked different somehow? Dirtier? More hobbled together or something? Or was I just seeing things?
As far as the bad goes, I'm going to have to go with most everything we saw with Roslin (who herself is giving things over to Tori. Yeah, that'll turn out well). Its implied that if Adama sure wants to believe in something else, sending people to their supposed death and all. I'm not yet sure whether Moore is portraying Adama as questioning or renouncing his atheist/agnostic beliefs, or if he's just believing in certain people. I think he might be setting Adama up for some big conversion, though.
Gave the episode a 4 this week. Probably would have earned a 3 in previous seasons, but in this season, you take what you can get.

I've been liking all of the episodes so far, but this one was so out of the rest's league. Good Cylon/Demetrius stuff with a little resolution and more buildup for the future, and some incredible scenes between McDonnell and Nana Visitor. Genuinely emotional.
And to cap it all off, yet another charming Adama & Roslin scene as a coda.

Actually, I take back that much in my con rant. As much as I don't like where the story continues to dovetail into "The religious freaks are always right", Mary McDonnell is doing a fantastic job. This is what's pissing me off about the show. I mean seriously. What evidence leading to earth, since the supernova (which was questionable at best) hasn't come from ancient scripture or someone's drug-addled visions?
They shouldn't bill the show as "realistic" if everybody's religious delusions are going to be 100% right, 100% of the time. It doesn't just kill SoD, it rapes the corpse.

Wow, what freaked the Centurion out so much that it went into "EXTERMINATE" mode? Are they just close to the hybrids and protective of them?
Another minor character bits the dust.
Anders is really presenting himself as a guy who should not be given a gun or Viper this season. From his freak-out in the first episode of season 4, to tonight's kneecapping of Gaeta...granted he's copping with being a Cylon, but to everyone else he should seem like someone who really hasn't been holding it together well.
Athena takes a 180 degree turn from advocating relieving Starbuck to running off with her. This is my biggest gripe for the episode.
Roslin's scenes with Nana Visitor were good. From a character perspective her view of her mother's bleak death explains how she clung onto religion in season 1. Humanity was exterminated, she was dying herself...her mother had nothing and when the prophecies of a dying leader presented themselves Roslin jumped on it.

I think it's important to note that I'm not against the religions being brandied about per say, or that characters, both Cylon and Human, cling to religion. I think Trek in particular (with the exception of Moore's DS9) didn't deal enough with the fact that religion of some form or another probably survives 200 years from now. I don't even mind if there are a few coincidences along the way that have characters going "hey, look, my religion is right" even if it might just be good timing. It's why I wasn't bothered by it in the first few seasons.
The problem arises with what Darkstar said...that its the supernatural that is pulling the puppet strings. One might as well suggest that Anders was being played by the One True God to stop the ship from jumping to help Kara fulfill her destiny, given how everything worked out so neatly. Everything hinges on the supernatural at this point. The individual character's actions no longer matter all that much. It's all been predestined.

My main complaint comes from the fact that the show is billed as a more "realistic" version of BSG, and then they spew all this predestination bullshit.
I never really had a problem with it in Obsg, but they didn't make any claims of realism, and they actually found an ancient star map on Kobol that they were following. which is actually much more grounded in reality than the bizzare combination of drug-addled visions and ancient predistination that are almost driving the fleet to earth at this point
