New Gears of War 2 gameplay video

Post by Natorgator »

I can't believe no one else has posted this yet.

After seeing this video I am super stoked for November. Chainsaw duels, body shields...I wonder what other kind of new gameplay features we'll see?

Most impressive. I'm really excited about seeing the large battle scenes first hand.

Wow. That is fucking cool. I will definitely be getting that. I suppose I should go get the first one.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

Whilst not a gameplay feature, we saw the flesh deformation that they were demoing a few months ago at the end of the trailer, when they were blowing chunks out of the Brumak's head.

I saw this a few days ago, and I was already stoked by reading the Game Informer exclusive on GoW2. I definitely like how they're implementing the atmosphere of a full-scale war going on all around you, with other Gears fighting at the same time, aircraft flying overhead, hordes of Locust in the background, etc. For all the fun the first GoW was, it never really gave me the impression that I was fighting a real war, beyond the wrecked buildings and copious amounts of COG bodies.

I am rather looking forward to getting into the co-op for Gizzawar 2. My friend and I had a ball with the first one, and this chapter looks like the slightly different direction will be exciting and fun. The submachine gun they have for a side-arm is cool, though I'll probably stick to the Boltok.

Chainsaw bayonet duels: I am vindicated.

I'm actually not really pleased with the '30 different guns' thing. I always liked that Gizzawar didn't do that, it just had the regular guns and the silly guns. I like the higher level of interactivity, though, and the improvements to the character models.

The bayonet duels look fucking retarded. If you're invincible when it happens, it's stupid, if you're not it's useless. Hooray for fanservice.

I hate the invincibility-while-chainsawing thing. If I shoot you with a Boomshot while you're chainsawing someone in half, you should still die.

You do, don't you? I'm pretty sure I've been killed while the animation has played in SP.

You can't be killed whilst the animation plays, but you can sure as hell die the second it's over.

Do you mean you can run down to zero hp during the animation and instantly die afterward, or that you don't take damage during the animation at all? I always found chainsawing guys in the open usually resulted in death from his friends' fire, but I'm not 100% on how it works.

In any case, making the animation even longer is just going to make it dumber. It's fanservice.

Yeah, I've survived many a time while chainsawing someone in single player, despite being hit with either the boomshot or a torque arrow. It is kind of a silly feature, but I will happily benefit from it. :D

I think in multiplayer you can die right after the animation is over. Most of the time someone will come up behind you and chainsaw you when you're done.

That's so lame. When I wasn't sure, I didn't care, but now that I know you're invincible while you're doing something retarded, I almost hate the entire game. What a fucking piece of shit feature.

The last second or so of the animation you are essentially immobile and vulnerable.

Yeah, my impression was that you couldn't interrupt the animation, but you could still die; I've died before I could move to cover before. It's just so dumb, and now you'll have invincible button-mashing bullshit of failure. I blame fans.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll come to their senses? I didn't see Malcolm getting shot at or attacked by any other Locust while he was wanking all over himself. Maybe a friend can kill him, or at least stop the animation and stagger him like in normal melee? :)
Best care anywhere.

The chainsaw was pretty terrible until the last guy due to the shot-interrupt thing, so maybe the duels are a similar 'rooly cool' thing that will actually be a tiny part of the game due to it's low utility.

I doubt it, though; I think they played God Of War and liked it a bit too much.

Well, I for one think the chainsaw bayonet is probably one of the coolest video game weapons ever. It's intensely gratifying to chainsaw the shit out of someone in a firefight. It's worth a little bit of SOD for that.

I don't, but that was obvious. I'm going to play coop with Hav soon (he's picking it up today I believe), and I'm going to be curious if knowing that they made you invincible to let you do something retarded ruins the game for me. It seriously might; every time I see it happen and nades explode next to people I'm going to get crankier and crankier. :)

Of course, the lag might excuse it all.

Well I was going to offer to play coop with you, but since you're in Australia I don't think that will work!

Yeah, the lag is terrible. :( I'm not sure if it'd be the same depending on who hosts, but since it all runs through XBL I don' think it'd make a difference.

Meh.... I have the same problem with this one than with the previous Gears of War.... All I see is neat graphics, but the rest doesn't seem that innovative.

Don't take me wrong, the graphics are cool, and seem conducive to great immersion... But if that's all it's got going for it, then it is a fully classified Meh.

Additionally, it is designed for consoles (like GTA:SA), and the PC Gamer in me will probably loathe the control scheme (I will pick up and try Gears of War in the near future).

Innovative compared to what? It's a shitpile more 'innovative' than circlestrafing rehashes like Halo, because it's at least TRYING different things. I've heard many people don't like the playstyle, but the complaints are usually 'oh noes I can't run in like an idiot and headshotz everyone', which to me is actually a bonus. :)

People who can't play shooters on consoles can't learn. :P
