II Republic Navy goes out to sea
After a brief period of re-organization and further training, all PeZookian navy vessels have left port and are steaming at full speed towards the Shinra Republic.
There, all four vessels (RNV Swiftsure, RNV Furious, RNV Mauler and RNV Protector) will be placed under MESS command and reinforce the ABM deployment there.
"We feel this is the best use of our naval assets at this time. With S-300 batteries and Shroomanian naval forces deployed off Quidlivum Free States, this nation is quite secure from attack, while Shinra Repulic remains a likely target.", said the Minister of Defence.
Meeting with internal criticism, this fleet movement is likely to leave PeZookian cities exposed to Saddamistani WMD attacks, say some experts.

His Personal Assitants that specialized in the regions --in this case, Samira, Katerin, Jia and Shawna, went over peripheral reports, 'soft intel' stuff such as what was being reported in the various newspapers and other media of the countries involved, gauging their reactions and filtering the most interesting or relevant news for Arik to look at in professionally-prepared brief folders.
His Foreign Minister also looked at some of the reports prepared by them, and helped for a coherent picture for public relations.
"Excellency, a number of nations are recognising the sovereignty of the warlord states on Libertia," Foreign Minister Ren Lars said, "Shall I issue a statement as well?"
"No," Arik said. The FM and some of the others nearby glanced at him.
"I, personally, do not feel that this collection of thugs and pirates deserve the distinction," Arik said, "And I also don't like the precedent it sets. Until now, each nation was its own island, without sub-division of political sovereignty," he pointed out, "And it was just a couple months ago, that these punks captured MESS law enforcement personnel that had to be rescued by force rather than negotiation, like a real state, and they responded by declaring a jihad that has not been repudiated. I see little reason to reward them for this behavior."
While not broadcasted, the Canissian forces did not deny that they expected an attack from the Sultan as much as they expected an attack from Saddamistan.
"Sir, we should consider the reasons why we are participating in this venture, then," the Defense Minister said. The crowd around the King grew quiet.
"We are here to stick up for our allies," Arik said plainly, taking a sip of coffee, "The Libertians, for better or for worse, are to work out their problems on their own, free of outside interference. "But you don't believe the idea that recognising their legitimacy will make them more responsible?" Foreign Minister Lars asked. Arik gave a snort of contempt.
"I can dress a cannibal in a tuxedo, but he is still a cannibal," Arik said, "State legitimacy will mean we get the priviledge of accepting these gang-leaders at our tables for conferences, they'll get a fair chance to bid on arms deals, they can enter agreements with alliances that will do nothing to address the underlying issues they face and then the next thing we know we'll be dragged into a conflict that benefits them, not us."
"So what kind of statement shall I give about this sovereignty-recognition?" Minister Lars asked.
"Say nothing," Arik said. "This is the time to smile and nod our heads and commit Canissia to nothing."
"And any Libertian refugees?" Lars asked. Arik shrugged.
"So far we've had none," the King said, "We're too far for boat people. But if any show up, we're to process them for resettlement in any country willing to take them. Humanitarian exceptions will be granted on a case-by-case basis, but if possible the Border Guard will just turn them away."

FUN FORCE COMMUNIQUE
From Captain Cornelius Coot to the Baernish Ministry of War
The FUN Force will gladly welcome the addition of Baernish submarine assets. However, as the Yer Mom and the Yer Face have been deployed to classified positions, it will be impossible for Baernish naval assets (or any other Fungal or Shroomanian assets, for that matter) to rendezvous with them.
Nevertheless, more ships and more manpower is welcomed to help secure the FUN Force's security positions in Qudlivun Free State waters. Twenty Shroomanian frigates (out of forty) on anti-piracy patrols have been diverted to patrol the western and eastern waters off Qudlivun's shores, linking the FUN Force to the MESS deployments in Shinra and Baal, and OMSK deployments in Zoria. The SAF and other air assets are also providing air security and air patrols between this "line in the sand."
Currently, the FUN Force's naval assets are being coordinated through the carrier SSS Flattop while the combined air forces are coordinated in the 'field HQ' located in the Qudlivun Free State.
PeZookian naval assets have been deployed to the Shinra-Baal strait and are currently under the command of the MESS' taskforce.

Arik had lived in the Middle East back on Earth for a total of five years-- four in Israel, one in Iraq. And he'd studied the history of the region extensively.
"Tell ya what, Shep," he said carefully, "As far as I'm concerned, jihad is an existential threat. If he's allowed to get away with it, it'll set a precedent on this world. Ideally I think you should drop one close to him and rattle his cage a bit, because he needs to rescind the call to jihad. If he dies without rescinding that, then he goes up in smoke as a martyr and it'll never stop. But that's my point of view on it, knowing jihad as I do...

ProTec had a new mission in Libertopia, that of a diplomat. ProTec had been approached by representatives of the FUN and given a mission. They were to contact the Sultan and let him know rescinding his order of Jihad would be a good idea. Frankly, ProTec wanted him to stop as well. A wide scale war would be extremely volatile.
It was not easy to get a meeting with anyone in the Sultan's territory. ProTec had very few assets in the North. An intermediary was used, in the form of an arms dealer. The arms dealer supplied both Alexander and the Sultan, and ProTec had come across his activities. He was "asked" to set up a meeting with someone in the Sultan's inner circle. The dealer came through, and a small group of ProTec men became guests of General Fakir.
The General's agent was told the facts of the situation; that the MESS was all that was keeping the Sultan from annihilation, and it looked like the FUN and OMSK also agreed to the goal of keeping the status quos in Libertopia. It was ProTec's assessment that threatening the status quos would likely lead to the Sultan's destruction, something ProTec did not want to see. ProTec's men also again reiterated they knew about the Sultan moving men into General Alexander's territory. ProTec also offered to use its connections with aid agencies to have them come in and help the Sultan's people, and also pointed out that ProTec was already helping the Sultan's civilians in the refugee camps they were protecting. This act showed the Sultan that ProTec was genuinely concerned about the Sultan's people, and they didn't want to see harm come to his innocent citizens.

"What a pitiful place", thought major Kulinsky. ROS. as he stepped out of the car. The camp was nothing to write home about - a couple of tents, some banged-up vehicles and a lot of militiamen. Obviously set up hastily to facilitate the meeting - the Sultan was not about to betray the location of his hideout.
Kulinsky was part of an international delegation - of sorts. He and two other men - GROM commandoes, both of them - were the only PeZookians there. They were intelligence agents, mostly, from all over the FUN.
Kulinsky looked at their ProTec guides. Relations between The Company and the FUN were strained lately, after ProTec's air raids against Ramsley. Back then, they threatened to destabilize the situation, but Saddamistan did it way better than ProTec ever could. And this meeting had the potential to redeem them - it was no small feat to arrange that.
A militia "soldier" came up to them and started talking with the ProTec guide who knew the local language. Kulinsky could only barely understand it, but it didn't matter.
"They want us to leave our weapons here. No armed visitor is going to meet the Sultan", the ProTec guide translated
"Tell them that's okay, but our men at the vehicles keep their weapons."
It was no use aggravating them. In case of trouble, the delegation had no chance, anyway - they would have to depend on rescue teams standing by not far from the place.
A quick exchange followed, and soon the ProTec merc waved towards the delegation, "Okay, we're good. Four men at most."

"We want you to understand the situation from their perspective, Sultan. Had your people been abducted into your rival's territorry, and he didn't do anything about that, wouldn't you stop at nothing to get them back?"
"They slaughtered innocents. I will do nothing untill they pay reparations at the very least!", the Sultan was an imposing man, a strong presence. But Kulinsky was not easily intimidated.
"We will do that and much more. There are plans being drafted right now to help Libertia. Humanitarian aid: hospitals, roads, food, infrastructure...all you have to do to is call off the Jihad."
"You demand much."
"Surely, it is not that unreasonable? There are Lonestar ships protecting Libertia right now. You declared holy war against them, and now they risk their own lives, their very nation, to save your people from destruction. Are such gestures not deserving of respect? Would bloodthirsty barbarians really forgive their enemies so gladly?"
The Sultan remained stoic, but nodded his head just slightly.
"Your words carry some wisdom in them, major. You say there are plans to help us ; But what are the conditions?"
"Not unreasonable, I assure you. The nations of the world will help you establish functioning countries, under the condition that you cease any hostilities with your neighbors. No military action and no militarization will be allowed, or the countries will withdraw all aid."
"Then how are we supposed to defend ourselves? Surely, you do not expect me to just trust Ramsley and this godless snake, Alexander?"
"They are going to be put under the same conditions. No exceptions."
The Sultan was silent for a while, looking at all four men. Intelligence agents, he thought. Spies and assassins, capable of lying to anybody's face. How could he trust those people? So far, the north-eastern world brought only misery to Libertia. Would this really change now?
"Sultan Ibrahim, we need your answer."
"I must consult with my generals"
"Very well"

"So...how did it go?", he asked
"We wait now. We'll know in a few minutes."

"RPG!" The boarding officer on the RHIB screamed. The RPG flew out towards Cutlass-2, and missed. The airman manning the .50 on Cutlass-2 was requesting permission to open fire.
"Granted, all hands open fire!" And the plethora of hMGs and LMGs, as well as a 25mm on the Abilene started to rip into the dhow. Something exploded, then the dhow caught fire.
A woman's voice came on the Bridge-to-Bridge.
"Please cease fire! This is Samantha Colbert of the Austin Reporter-Herald! We've been held hostage in Libertia for days, and you managed to kill our captors!"
The CO looked at the OOD. "I didn't know there were MESS Hostages."
"The Austin Reporter-Herald is Erwin McFibblestein's paper. Uhm...I'm sure El Presidente just forgot to pass it down..." The OOD said halfheartedly. Then he picked up the 1MC. "CEASE FIRE CEASE FIRE!"

Adrianpolis puts Armed Forces on Alert!
Presidente Traianvs Hadrianvs has apparently woken from his state of semi-delirious half-sleep for long enough to notice that our northern neighbor Saddamistan has been aggressive lately and we're wide open. He has thus put the military on an alerted pre-mobilization stance. All leaves have been canceled, all active troops recalled to duty stations, and the reserves warned to be ready to report to mustering areas on notice. Air defense batteries are being moved from southern areas to re-enforce strategic points closer to Saddamistan, Ejercito units have been taking-up "defensive" positions in the main islands, the Fuerza Aerea has implemented constant aerial patrols over Bashi Channel, and the Marina Armada has put most of its frigates and destroyers on patrol under likely avenues of air attack. The heli-carriers and cruisers are being held back as they have mostly offensive roles and Hadrianvs has no desire to antagonize the Great Saddam.
It has also been announced that Aerial and Naval bases in Adrianpolis, as well as their support personnel, are open for the use of fellow MESS members, provided they cover expenses. For the time being, Land bases shall remain closed to them, and no troops other than security personnel allowed in Adrianpolis.
It is speculated that the severity of the response is a direct result of el Presidente's slowness in enacting it. Parliament has been condemning his lack of focus with cries of "About dammed time!" and "Pay more attention you absentminded fool!"

Air defense batteries are being moved from southern areas to re-enforce strategic points closer to Saddamistan, Ejercito units have been taking-up "defensive" positions in the main islands, the Fuerza Aerea has implemented constant aerial patrols over Bashi Channel, and the Marina Armada has put most of its frigates and destroyers on patrol under likely avenues of air attack. The heli-carriers and cruisers are being held back as they have mostly offensive roles and Hadrianvs has no desire to antagonize the Great Saddam.
It has also been announced that Aerial and Naval bases in Adrianpolis, as well as their support personnel, are open for the use of fellow MESS members, provided they cover expenses. For the time being, Land bases shall remain closed to them, and no troops other than security personnel allowed in Adrianpolis.
It is speculated that the severity of the response is a direct result of el Presidente's slowness in enacting it. Parliament has been condemning his lack of focus with cries of "About dammed time!" and "Pay more attention you absentminded fool!"

It was the first time the Nukistani Strategic Command Squadron had ever operated under anything approaching real world wartime conditions; and as such, things were a total mess; command frequencies were mixed up, and operators using the E-4B's long range sets were connecting with railroad divisional towers, instead of military airbases.
But despite all the failures, President Sheppard, who was now sitting in the war room one deck below, was watching as his military aides laid out the strategic situation.
"How soon can we surge SAC?"
"The airborne patrols are really putting a dent into our surge capability; we estimate that if war broke out right now, we could only put up an additional thirty bombers to complement the thirty or so we have airborne right now."
"What about the Strategic Reconnaisance Groups?"
"We're loading SRAMs and whatever big devices we have available onto the RB-1s as fast as we can land and refuel them at our designated Strategic Loading Airfields, dispersal of the RB-1s afterwards to major and minor airports across the country is proceeding apace."
"Navy wise?"
"We're working as fast as we can to surge the Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware strike groups out, but really, only the Virginia strike group will be fully up to wartime levels."
