The kid was extremely lucky in that he didn't die, the fact he is actually a regular person today is a nearly ridiculous miracle.

Even more miraculous tha the procedure, how do you transport a kid with a nearly severed head?

To answer the question........... Medical Science has ALOT of trouble with parasites.... the best method we have for dealing with them right now is to given the host low doses of poison to ingest, hoping that it will kill the parasite/s. In many cases if you get one your just plain fucked.
