Norton Antivirus 2008 Activation Error

Post by YT300000 »

Continuing their proud tradition of releasing an increasingly shitty product every year, Symantec have finally outdone themselves with the latest version, which has finally refused to work.

It took 5 tries to finally install, at which point it tells me that I have an activation error whenever I try to activate. Compounding the issue, there was only one prompt for my product key during the initial installation, and none since. I've removed the program and reinstalled, but still only get the activation error message, leaving the whole mess paralyzed.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? I searched their afterthought of a website, and it seems that the program cannot be manually activated online, or by any other method.

I assume you have to use Norton for reasons outside of your control? If this is a home computer, you're much better off with AVG.

Why did it take 5 tries to install?

I think their network may have been down, because I didn't do anything differently and it magically worked that time.

I'm trying Norton first because it was bought for me a while ago and can't be returned anymore, but if this keeps up then I'll definitely give AVG a turn.

yeah, and when they took over my ISP's security system, and disabled my pre-existing anti-virus but not my firewall (thank god), I was very pissed at Norton. Then Again I refer to Systemantac as "Malware" to begin with.
