I think that Hagee's more of the stripe that wants the Jews in Israel because that is a neccesary prerequisite to Armageddon (and the Rapture). He doesn't care about them converting, they're simply on his checklist to bring about the Apocolypse.

Considering that Hitler mostly failed even in THAT task (there's still plenty of Jews, gypsies, slavs, ect. around), it would basically be implying that God doesn't know what the fuck he's doing when he tries to influence the world.

I think their idea is that Israel is in some sense eternal, regardless of what reality happens to exist on the ground at any particular time.
Probably ties into that whole accident/essence business. It's *always* Israel in essence; the inconvenient number of Arabs living there at the time, plus the different name for the territory, were just accidents.

I've described armageddonists like Hagee before: In order to bring back Jesus, they support the emigration of Jews to the Middle East. Just as lions would, if they could form lobbies and political action committes, support the migration of more and more zebras to the Serengeti.
Hagee and others like him are predators, only they serve no useful function in the ecosystem.

It's actually very consistent with Christian ideology and Biblical teaching. Anyone who has ever bothered actually reading the Old Testament (ie- very few Christians) will know that God "chose" the tribe of Israel to be the theological equivalent of an abused spouse. Occasionally favoured, mostly beaten.
The Old Testament is filled with stories of God visiting horrible suffering and death upon the Jews in order to punish them for not listening to his latest instructions. He nearly committed genocide against them when he caught them worshipping a golden calf, in the Book of Exodus (Moses barely managed to talk him out of it). It's really not difficult to justify Hitler in Biblical terms.

Besides, Hagee and his lot probably can't bear the idea of Jews sitting next to them on the subway or going to the same schools. Sending them off to Israel would solve several problems, in their sniveling reptilian minds.
