What YOU would like to see covered in 40K analysis.
Yes, I'm doing a "Viewer's choice" equivalent of sci fi analysis. Frankly, I've covered alot of the stuff I have wanted, but I'm running out of specific ideas and generally just let the mood dictate it. So, I figure, just ask what people might want to see covered. The options include:
- novels you want to see done (If I have them. If I don't I'll tell you.) I'll probably listen to the choices, ,then compile a list from them (based on popularity, if I've read them yet, ,etc.)
- Parts of the 40K game/fluff that I havent touched yet. This can include the earlier stuff (epic 40K) stuff from BFG, specific codexes, Dark Heresy, Forrgeworld, etc.
I have skimmed some WD magazines, but its never been very consistent there. So be warned that that may be more hit/miss.
- Dedicated-topic threads (EG like the lasgun analysis, starship firepower threads I've done, bolter firpeower thread, etc.)
As I'm currently seeing it, and assuming I dont get any better suggestions:
Novels:
1. Kill Team, to fit in with my current Tau-oriented analysis
2.) getting back to Gaunt's Ghosts with Necropolis
3.) Possibly (now) covering "Let the Galaxy Burn
Fluff/other stuff: I'm still covering the Tau stuff, but after that I'm not sure what I'd do next.
Dedicated threads: I've had an exterminatus analysis thread sitting on my HD for over a year. I'm not really motivated to work on it. (well technically its more or less complete, I'd just need to tweak it, and I'm not really motivated to do so, nor am I sure I relaly need to anymore.)
Oh, ,and even if this thread is over with.. feel free to pm me anytime with specific suggestions, requests, or whatnot, and time and ability permitting, I'll try to cover it.
So, let the suggestions begin!

I wish to see a thread dedicated to Titans.
Maybe we can finally get a solid idea of their size range.

Second the titans idea, there have been various threads over time but a single quantification thread would be really useful.
Also, getting back to GG is a good idea, IIRC Honour Guard has a lot of armoured warfare in it courtesy of the Pardus.
Another idea might be looking at 'rare' technologies and determining just how uncommon they are, whether the Imperium is still capable of producing them etc. This could include teleporters, cyclonic torpedoes and all the other bits and pieces that boost the Imperium's capabilities considerably but may in fact be very unusual.

No, they didn't, unless you count the 13th Black Crusade campaign.Terralthra wrote:Some attempt at reconciling Eldar fluff and capabilities would be nice, but there isn't much in the way of Eldar novels to look through. Farseer is the only Eldar-centric one I can think of, and I have no idea if they ever made the (obviously foreshadowed) sequel.

This would be very interesting.Lazarus wrote:Another idea might be looking at 'rare' technologies and determining just how uncommon they are, whether the Imperium is still capable of producing them etc. This could include teleporters, cyclonic torpedoes and all the other bits and pieces that boost the Imperium's capabilities considerably but may in fact be very unusual.
Also, when I've the time, possibly later this week, I'll try and update the 'Grand 40K Quantification Thread' to index Connor's work.

But, no, that didn't follow meaningfully on the novel in question.
I would be willing to scour my second edition Eldar codex for anything that seems relevant, then transcribe it and post it. I was going to do that for white_rabbit, but I got busy with school and never got around to it.Terralthra wrote:Some attempt at reconciling Eldar fluff and capabilities would be nice, but there isn't much in the way of Eldar novels to look through. I have both the Codex and Farseer. I'm actually pretty sure my Codex is third ed., but I'd have to check.Maxentius wrote:I would be willing to scour my second edition Eldar codex for anything that seems relevant, then transcribe it and post it. I'd like to see more discussion about Imperial society in general and the technology available to them. It's been a person opinion of mine for awhile that the Imperial Guard uses less sophisticated tech in general due to maintenance and logistics concerns.
I'm also curious about anything related to the Macharius tank.

It would be wonderful if you did a 40k analysis of the characters and organizations of the 'verse. I was planning to do a Ciaphas Cain analysis on Cain-kun and Amberley-chan and so on (^__^) but, yeah

I think the Kill Team analysis can probably go into the current threaad, since it's currently focused on the Tau.
I haven't read the book, but I hear a Captain from the Ordo Xenos' Deathwatch and his Scout buddy kick the crap out of half a cadre.
Very interested.

Quantification by description of effects have been made, I believe; correlating them with game statistics (though these are often simplified for purposes of game mechanics) can give a fairly good representation of relative firepower of various classes of ships.SCVN 2812 wrote:I've always been curious as to whether or not there is any sort of quantification of the numbers and calibers of weapons on any of the Imperium ships.
Application of Search-fu may locate previous threads with the existing analysis and quantification work.

Oh, sorry.
There was some discussion about vague descriptions of skyscraper-sized torpedoes with loading gantries and cranes. Aren't most of the guns actually directed-energy weapons, nevertheless? Batteries of laser and plasma weapons, "fusion lances" and the like?

Quick and Dirty BFG
Lances: Multiple heavy beam weapons focused into a single beam. Burns through armour real good.
Weapons Batteries: short range missiles, macro cannon, rail guns, lasers, plasma weapons, fusion beamers, particle beams, gravitic pulsars, etcetera. In other words, lots of fucking big guns fire en masse.
Standard Imperial torpedo is 200 feet long. An Apocalypse class has a munitions scattering warhead with 128 submunitions. Each submunition is 5 gigatons.

I wouldn't mind seeing the following:
Tau technology
Tau interactions with other species, especially humans; I understand they've assimilated some humans into their United Soviet Space Republic, but I also hear they sterilize 'em. What's up with that?
Imperial Guard gear, backgrounds on different units (like, those guys who dress up as WWI German troopers), etc.
The life of the average civilian in the Imperium of Man

I think it depends on how much trouble you give the Tau. If they decide it's not worth keeping you under an iron fist ad infinitum, they'll sterilise you. Otherwise I'm not aware of them having much of a problem with humans.Swindle1984 wrote:Tau interactions with other species, especially humans; I understand they've assimilated some humans into their United Soviet Space Republic, but I also hear they sterilize 'em. I thought the forced sterilization stuff was only rumors mentioned at the Tau Ending of Dark Crusade which I took to mean mostly Imperial Propaganda used to explain the decline of humans on Kronos.
Of course given how bat-shit coco crispies they all went I don't blame the Tau if they did. After all if we had the power I am sure many of us would force sterilize a few segments of Earth's population.
