Yeah I've decided to hold off until next year or so.

I also think I should sell my trans am, could fetch a nice price for it that could almost pay for a new car given the estimates I was given, but it needs a few fixes to be worth its full price, which means spending money... Not sure if it will be as desierable in the future, unless I can convert it to ethanol and start "making my own" fuel :P

New Zealand fuel has reached $2.00(NZ) per litre. And people wonder why the government brought the railways back, even if an argument can be made that it was over book value.

I've been considering buying a small motorcycle or a 'maxi-scooter' like the Suzuki Burgman or Yamaha Majesty.

My only dilemma is waiting until next summer when my existing 401k loan is paid off and then borrow the $7k needed (thus paying myself the interest) or trying to finance one now and pay interest until I can pay it off with next year's 401k money.
Shit, if Indiana had milder winters, I'd sell my car and ride a scooter/motorcycle year round.

Here in the DC area(for those of us who listen to WTOP radio), there has been a massive upsurge in advertisements for rail, it seems. Both for passenger(VRE) and freight. It's very interesting.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

A co-worker of mine has a 5.7 liter model-87 Pontiac Firebird. He's admitted though that it would be a little too expensive with the price of gas being what it is to use it everyday commuting :D So, you have a fair chance of getting good money off your Trans Am still since only those with the kind of income necessary to drive it around would be interested in the first place.

At my new job, we've been having problems lately that the oil companies aren't sending us enough oil from the different wells for the tests they want run. People have been joking that due to the current price of oil, the oil companies can't spare any for reseach because they're selling every drop they can before prices drop.

Hmm, eh, about this little topic. I've been thinking of moving into downtown seattle, as soon as I finish up colledge. Currently I live in a small subrub that's about 18 miles east from Seattle; on the Sammamish Plateau. I've been carpooling with my Mom to go to BCC and taking the Bus back to the park and ride on the plateau and my dad drives the rest of the way home (about a mile or two away from the park and ride). I mainly drive a Toyota Prius. So is my plan for moving into Seattle a good plan for high oil prices or should I just stay at home?

I think you should try to live close to work, wherever that may be. If that's downtown Seattle, then I guess moving there would be a good idea. The city itself is supposed to be fairly good I guess.

In New Orleans, I could ride the bus/streetcar system and get anywhere maybe only a little bit more than the time it would take to drive. Even going from Kenner, timewise mass-transit wasn't too poor. But here in Gadsden where we wound up after Katrina, anything decent is at least an hour away, shoppingwise (barring necessities), the only "mass transit" is some fake-trolley line which doesn't operate at all in the evenings, and my wife has to drive to Rome, GA to her work (the only hospital which offered a comparable payscale to what she was getting at Tulane Lakeside; the local hopsitals pay utter crap).

I am seriously considering having one of the cars converted to run on propane.

I'm seriously considering buying one of those homebrewing ethanol stations I mentioned in SLAM if they are ever available and using some land to farm sugar cane.
