Essentially, the complaint is the result of certain communists having little concept of fiction.
"Red Dawn", "Rocky IV" and "Rambo III" are fiction likewise, and they did form perceptions of people. Due to the stupidity of the average moviegoer, the stereotype and the fictional events and personalities get extrapolated to real ones.
Mr Malinkovich is objecting to the portrayal of fictitious events on the basis that they did not happen. Did you not see that he calls the fictitious events of the film as "that sort of lie" and a Western plot to trick Russian youths? He is not objecting that American audiences will form negative impressions of Russians, he is objecting that ignorant Russian teenagers will believe these events are true and historically accurate (which says a great deal about his opinion of the average Russian teenager). How many Russians believe the events of Red Dawn and Rambo III actually happened? How many Russians believe Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed?

How are the proletariat supposed to rule if they cannot even discern Hollywood fiction from fact?

Last time they produced a load of garbled nonsense with no protagonists in response to individualist hollywood cinema. And now who's laughing, huh, Hollywood? I think it's ironic how capitalist media centred on the individual's struggles appeals far more to the widest audience than the soviet attempts at cinema.

Having just seen it, I can't believe these guys are complaining.

The Soviet guys in this movie can pull off an armed raid on a top-secret US military base, in the middle of the country. They can loot our national-security warehouses and skip the country, without difficulty.

They have international reach - wherever we go, there's a well-equipped Soviet expedition, waiting for us.

They're hip to the importance of the discovery they're chasing, while everyone else is laughing it off as legend.

It feels more like pro Soviet propaganda, than anti.

I think the Russian communists should direct their attention towards Pravda instead. With headlines in the science sections saying "Aliens downed Tunguska meteorite to save Earth", "Boriska, the boy from Mars", "Russian scientists contact nether world", I think they have more to criticize closer to home.

Oh, and take a look at one of Pravda's headlines which has to do with history: "Stonehenge originally appeared as resort hotel". And of course the U.S. government was behind 9/11: "The ten worst in US history" but aliens were also definitely involved.

And they have the gall to accuse an entirely fictionalized movie made for entertainment purposes to "distort history". They can go fuck themselves for all I care.

It's not much more worse than any of the US tabloids I have encountered, some of which almost shrill about Obama and what not having an affair.

Though, some people are more inclined to believe a history they prefer, be it in the movies or anything.

Indeed, and since posting, I've become informed that the two Pravdas' (the online version and the paper version) aren't related (though some of the staff of the former have worked on the latter), so the point was moot anyway.

That's what got me. I just saw it last night, and I was wondering what the hell they were complaining about. Of course the KGB wasn't sending terrorists into the United States in that manner during the Cold War; they weren't that competent. My suspension of disbelief was jarred even before the whole alien corpse bit by the fact that they got an entire Red Army platoon into the United States, and not only into the United States, but onto a nuclear test site, totally without detection.

Erm... I just realized that should probably be in spoiler text in some way. Could a mod who's hopefully seen the movie already fix it?

Call me crazy, but (and hear me out here) I'm fairly certain they're objecting to the "bad" in "badass".

Not that I think their complaints are at all sensible, but it's just as dumb to expect them to be flattered at being portrayed as "evil, but really, really good at it".
