Well, there's probably R&D costs in there, but conceded.

Of course, but they are if you'll see, a small fraction of the entire cost. Fission nuclear warheads research in the Manhatten was something like $100 million (some claim 1-2 billion but still small), and the fusion devices are somewhere in the 8-10 billion total ballpark for R&D. Hardly a figure that makes much weather here. "Atomic Audit" really is good ;)

EDIT: okay...  Hahaha. Haha. That was funnier than the Indian Nuclear Test.

Of course, it's now up to the nations to decide what to do (don't forget to announce the yield ;))

I'm glad you enjoyed it :D The whole point of my shenanigans with the UAR convoy was to sneak in a nuclear test right in everyone's face before anyone realized what I was doing.
Of course, it's now up to the nations to decide what to do (don't forget to announce the yield ;))
Oh, I expect diplomatic (ahem) fallout over this, though honestly the actual effects of this to any nation should be minimal or nonexistent.

Well, if you detonated a small nuke in the Central Sea for PR purposes you sure get your PR

DEATH, my mining company guys wants to talk to your guys about survey/exploitation rights in order to placate both powers of Neverhood (Shep and you). They're willing to make some reasonably big concessions (worker pay/benefits, safety standards, taxes, etc.) though expect some negotiating if you choose to accept.

Er, if you're referring to the IRT's maritime and naval forces in the Central Sea, be aware that there's a lot of naval traffic in the area, not all ours. You run the severe risk of sinking friendly and neutral maritime traffic and then there's the issue of retaliation.

OKAY, th efollowing Port Cities in West Neverhood need some MESS forces to go in and provide security:

Port New Hadera: Biggest port; Secured by Canissian Royal Marines
Port Eilatia: Modest sized port; commercial, some military boats
Eshkelon Bay: Modest sized port; commercial, some police boats
New Haifa: Small port; mostly civilian pleasure ships
West Jaffa: Small port; civilian owned pleasure boats and fishing boats

The mountainous stretch that seperates West from East Neverhood is fast becoming a no-man's land. There was a small string of Gulags in the more inhospitable areas (forests, rockland, swamps) nearby, bordering the Nukistani test ranges. That's where anti-OMSK and anti-Shepnukistan politica prisoners and "saboteurs, counter-revolutionaries, hooligans" and other threats to security were kept. The Original Prisoners was a band of about 102 community leaders that had the courage to first stand up in protest and were jailed, only a handful remain after the last few years of brutality, nuke testing nearby, etc.

In daring raids, some of these Original Prisoners were released by Loyalists and brought back to help form a cadre of new revolutionaries.

Neverhood and MESS forces have created stable areas of law & order in the cities that dot he coast, but all sorts of tarrorist bands, militias, and just plain thugs roam the badlands, warring on the Nationalist (pro-Nukistan) militias and their "puppet forces".

So groups already mentioned-- such as the NVA, and the RUF-- are some of the guerrilla groups involved, for example...

You declared an exclusion zone around the test site ; We can program the missiles to target your task force pretty accurately. You did the test as out of the way as possible, which means it's away from shipping lanes and the like.

Well, since DEATH wants me to talk to you, will the local government permit TIM to survey and mine the region under West Neverhood control without harassment by NVA, RUF or other government-aligned insurgent forces? TIM will negotiate, as mentioned before.

It was ten kilometers in radius. And I specifically mentioned foreign observation vessels, wondering WTF I was up to. Furthermore, you can't guarantee that there will be ships in the way on your missiles' flight plan, even if I'm not maneuvering around.

There's plenty of maritime patrol aircraft in the area, then there are the land-based radars, so getting a firing solution would be trivially easy. Even if we announce we're shooting at you in advance, and tell merchant ships to get out of the way, there's fuck all your ships can do to defend themselves from a massive wave of supersonic sea-skimmers.

Of course, I won't start by shooting at you, because I'm not a complete lunatic ; It's just what I was contemplating...but, uh, you better steam home fast...

EDIT: Oh, and I just realized I quoted DEATH in my post about killing IRT's ships :P

You know, it's not like I don't have 384 VLS cells filled up with missiles, plus helicopter AEW to extend the radar horizon. And since it's the inner sea, a lot of those cells are quadpacked ESSMs. Oh, yes, and an SSN in the area, plus that other SAG escorting the fast convoy which could turn right back.

Send a representative to Port Hadera-- there, you'll meet an Admiral Micha Dayan; he is the military governor for the city, working in close coordination with the Neverhood civil government (the Neverhood didn't have a big or powerful military, but their civil society & police were sufficient, so Dayan has taken over military security for this port city & the coastline of West Neverhood).

Admiral Dayan is a sort of aristocratic fellow, stern but fair. While he's open to outside investment (it brings in income to replace the lost OMSK economy and makes the area look stable & dependable) the truth is once outside city limits, law and order becomes a thing of local militias.

Here's what the Canissian military governor and the Loyalist/West Neverhood government will ask for: at least 50% of your crews must be Neverhoodniks; and you have to provide your own security. Either bring corporate security; hire a local militia; or bring in someone like ProTec, but your company will be held responsible for any wrongful deaths or atrocities. (In a way, the Loyalist city council kinda hopes something does get fucked up, because they see your corporation as a cash cow ready to be litigated into a handsome out of court settlement).

There were some experiments with automated mining robots, wheeled and legged, when everything went to hell, so there are some locals who are skillful and know what to do and would be glad for a chance to earn some money. Times are hard and inflation is high in West Neverhood, since no one really trusts Loyalist scrip, the ROB hasn't moved in yet, and the thriving black market undercuts everything.

Well...I have 10 batallions, sixteen launch vehicles each. Each vehicle can fire off four missiles before it needs to reload, and that's just PeZookia.

So, uh...you'd run out of missiles before we did.

Done. ProTec is handling local security, and so far they've been extremely professional as far as the IRT is concerned. As long as you keep the major insurgent organizations off our backs, we'll have a deal.

Ok, PeZookia wants to talk with the UAR.Since they have a huge chip on their shoulder, they should come forth and tell us all what exactly do they want to do - in Libertia and in general on the world stage.

EDIT: The Central Sea lockdown for UAR traffic remains in force for now, as far as PeZookia is concerned.

So the MESS has moved into West Neverhood? Now that's just annoying to Shep. And when Shep gets annoyed he does bad things.

I hope flks don't mind; because Neverhood never did get "fleshed out" I'm throwing in some things to add depth & flavor-- a few cities, some automated mining bots that were once hoped to be an economic & export point before things went bad, etc-- basically, harmless stuff that doesn't give some big advantage to them or anything like that.

Did natural resources ever get figured out? How about the usual copper, tin, some low-grade gems (rubies, sapphires, opals, emeralds) and rubber plantations, with modest natural gas deposits. Sound okay?
