Net 2.0 won't work in XP x64?

So, I got a new Radeon GPU yesterday, and was installing the drivers and things for it recently. and was trying to install the multidesktop support program (Catalyst), and it said it couldn't run without net 2.0 installed. So, I go and dig up net 2.0, and try and install it, and it tells me 2.0 won't run in x64. Now, this strikes me as odd. As far as I recall, it ran fine in 32 bit XP, and runs in Vista, so why isn't it able to function in x64?

Also, does anyone know of any workarounds to get net 2.0 working on x64, catalyst to work without it, etc?

Of course, for all the BS the programs are giving me about not being able to run multibackground programs, it still A: displays the same mulitbackground from my Nvidia GPU, and B: runs the multidesktop program just fine.

You need the x64 version of the .NET Framework, available here.
