When did you hate Corran Horn the most?

Post by Pendragon »

Were preparing to run a darksider campaign in the New Republic. I was thinking of adding something to my background that would make my character hate Corran Horn. I mean REALLY hate. Something like killing off a loved one (brother/sister/father). Or just any reason to devote my char's life to end Corran's.
The thought of being related to Erisi Dlarit has crossed my mind but im sure he's been more of a smug bastard at some other point.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Pendragon, how about the time when he shoots down your ISD by destroying the "supposed shield generators" on the Command Tower, then flies up your bridge and shoots off a pair of proton torpedoes and blows your legs off, thanks KJA :P :)

Just say that your character met him once. That's more than enough reason to want to kill him.

In my campaigns, Corran dies at least three times.

'As the AT-AT's pound through Corellia, a CorSec speeder is crunched under one foot, instantly killing Corran Horn.' Everyone cheers and has a drink.

I hated him the most when he used a "cubit zarchonia" as the focusing crystal of his lightsaber. It made no sense.

I also HATE the shield generater fallacy, as it makes no sense and anyone writing a novel in the SW universe should understand that.

There was that scene where Corran and pals get razzed by a tableful of A-Wing pilots for flying a slower fighter. And Corran returns the razzes for a bit, and that's fine. But then he says something like "Let me tell you about a battle where if I was in an A-Wing, I wouldn't be here today..."
I can tolerate Corran Horn, but for some reason that really pissed me off. The rivallry between A-Wing and X-Wing pilots has been handled fairly realistically; basically, they mock each other for the failings of each others' ships, but they know deep down that they're a team and fighting on the same side. It's banter. But Corran seems to go a few steps beyond that here; it's like he's the godlike ace, telling these lesser pilots not only that they're wrong, but that not even he could survive some of the battles he's seen in their shitty, beloved A-Wing. In real life, one of those A-Wing jocks would have bust a chair over his head.
It was all a bit too smug for my liking.

Heh...

Well... he turned out to be Ryon Dlarit, younger brother of Erisi... and he does hold a grudge against those who drove his family off Thyferra and killed his older sister while she was valiantly defending their home against New Republic invasion of their sovereign territory.

And yes, that means he has no love for Booster Terrik, Wedge Antilles and the defecting star destroyer captain whatshisname either... but Corran in particular...

And shooting down an unarmed shuttle with a lone diplomat onboard as well...

Currently Ryon is a level 2 soldier/level 2 dark side marauder.

Plans for the future: Capture Corran Horn, kill Booster, marry Mirax, tell Corran all about it, preferrably with holofootage of the wedding night.

Sooo Richard III....

Hey, a guy can dream right?

Oh yes, and if its not too late, bust Bossk out of prison if he hasnt become a belt already... just for the sheer annoyance factor.

Oh, yeah... the damn droid will definetly get it too. As there is really no point in giving a droid a slow lingering death, Whistler will simply be blown up or melted.

Or another idea would be to reprogram it and fill it with explosives. Suicide bomber stylee...

It cuts away to another scene right after Horn's line, but I can't beleive the other pilots just sat chastened as the mighty Horn got away with a crack like that.
I'd like to think that, at the very least, the ranking A-Wing pilot told Horn to fuck off. :)

Oh, man, I'd forgotten about that! That makes it way, way, way worse, IMO. Horn was not only smugly aggrandising himself at the expense of what were probably junior officers. but at the same time publically undermining the command of a close friend. What a bastard!

That's an interesting command style Pash has... Agreeing with the person from another squadron how inferior his personnel are.

That was good, I liked that. The rivalry was a two-way street there.
Whereas with Horn... It didn't sit well with me, somehow. It looked like Corran was meant to have won that set-to, but really a rivallry between two communities of proud pilots can never be won. Not even after both communities ships have been sent to the boneyard... So it felt phoney, just set-up by the author to demonstrate the superiority of the Mighty Horn.

Actually, Pash was asking Horn to in effect take the A-wing pilots down a notch. After all, the X-wing is better suited to some situations than the A-wing, and Pash's pilots needed to know that.

Corran Horn...was he the author's "Mary Sue" or was that someone else. I don't remember. I only remember that I stopped reading the X-Wing series because I knew that Corran Horn could take on every single TIE Defender that the Empire could throw at him at once and he's still find some bullshit maneuver that simutaeously destroys them and weakens SW fighter firepower figures.
