Knight Saber Help

Post by Kitsune »

I am trying to find a source on the Knight Sabers including what weapons each suit appears to have
"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."
Thomas Paine

"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."

I've got the Bubblegum Crisis RPG sourcebooks around here somewhere so I can get you that weapon list once I find it. Which suits though? The originals? The upgrades they got in Scoop Chase or the Bubblegum Crash versions?

I think I am looking at the Sylvia suit

All the hardsuits have palm mounted lasers, limited flight jetpacks, and rocket assisted kicks with an energy projector on the front edge of the foot.

Additionally, Sylia's has retractable blades build into both arms, the blades have a physical blade with an energy projector that covers the front edge.

Priss' suit has a railgun built into one arm.

Linna's suit has a close combat energy weapon called the Knuckle Bomber built into one arm (short range high damage energy weapon, concentrated in projectors on one fist), and two cutting weapons on ribbons trailing from the shoulders.

Nene's suit has no other weapons, but has ECM, ECCM, and boomer hacking equipment.

She's got a laser.. though for all the good it does it may as well not be there.

Also I'm pretty sure Priss was the only one who got the rocket boosted kick and foot bombers installed.

Sylia's was pretty vanilla though. Two lasers cannons that could be set for contact discharge to do a fair approximation of a knuckle bomber, two laser-edged blades. Her upgraded suit didn't add any weapons either.

Priss mounted a laser cannon and a triple railgun array on her original suit. Her first upgrade, aside from general improvements got a knuckle-bomber and the rocket kicks added. Her third upgrade added an s-mine rack (adhesive shaped charges she could slap onto boomers in hth combat), an electromagnetic punch weapon called a knuckle guard, and because rocket-powered kicks just weren't smashy enough the leg bombers (which is in addition to the rocket kick.. ouch).

Linna's original had a couple rapid fire lasers, the knuckle bomber, and a pair of ribbon cutters with powered edged. Her upgraded version got an extra laser gun, a bit of an external redesign and the ribbon cutters were made retractable because big nasty things kept grabbing her by them and slamming her around.

Both the original and upgraded version of nene's suit are armed with a dinky little laser that's more useful for carving graffiti into the sidewalk than it is against boomers. She does't get a real offensive upgrade until the Crash era. She can do horrible things to enemy electronics though.

Minor note: The blades on the original suit folded out from along the forearm, while the upgrade was more of the classic sliding version. Also, her suit was the only one with full flight capabilities.

Her Crash version was pretty much the same, only she switched out the contact-firing feature on her guns for actual Knuckle Bombers.

Her Crash suit removed all that for a pair of deployable railguns mounted on the back. The suit was overall built to be modular, and could also use a pair of giant claws with built-in laser cannons, or, IIRC, a heavy energy cannon mounted on one arm.

Her Crash suit retained the ribbons, but changed the other weapons to a pair of wire-mounted daggers that could deliver a high-voltage shock.

Nene's Crash suit was, effectively, the biggest and best upgrade of them all. Her ECM/ECCM pack got upgraded to the point that she could hack a Boomer's body while fighting it, or take over and redirect guided missiles in flight. To help this, her arms mount a pair of retractable cables that can physically link her with any system. Plus, she has a pair of powerful EM cannons built into the shoulders.

Probably worth asking Kitsune, but did you actually mean the Knight Sabers from the original runs, or from the 2040 remake in the late 90's?

Basic armament was a pair of wrist blades and the two 'combat torch' energy blades. And yes you're right her third upgrade pack was a big ass energy gun. :)

Only thing missing here is that the wire daggers have a laser edge like Sylia's swords. Also her jump pack got a major overhaul and improvement to make it more powerful.

Without a doubt. She also had 2 lasers instead of 1 but they're still dinky. She also got an energy shield to.

It's a big deal when you're talking about this to make sure which version suit is being referenced. In general, their original suits were more specialized, they all got knuckle bombers in the v2 suits, and then things got a little crazy for the Crash suits.

Originally Nene was basically a AWACs as someone on the staff, I suspect Kenichi Sonada, realized that the leader ie Sylvia would need an on site sensor package to help coordinate her troops. As such her suit was heavy on sensors with a low power rapid fire laser on the inside and a one cell knuckle bomber on the outside of the gauntlet, which she used to take out a Bu-55C in Blow Up.

Scoop Chase lead to a lasting impression of her hacking abilities, leading to nonsense involving her hacking closed systems, instead of being the AWACs. I can recall no evidence of ECM in use during the OVA run, instead she's a walking sensor package that can monitor the entire situation and orbital satellites in real time.

Priss and Linna are basically just grunts. Linna's suit was based around the heavy knuckle bomber and laser unit in 2032. The ribbons were for more looks until Scoop Chase went nuts with it. Priss's original suit has an effective knuckle bomber in that the cover plate can serve that function if I'm remembering the 2032 episodes correctly.
