40k Heroes of the Space Marines Contest - the finalists!

Nick Kyme wrote:After months of editorial agony and over 950 entries we at last have our four finalists to the Heroes of the Space Marines short story competition!

It's been a hard road, folks, but we made it. So, without ado, here are the lucky few...

Dylan Owen, for his story Honour Among Fiends
Darren Cox, for And They Shall Know No Fear...
Peter Mitchell, for Eternity On The Run
Peter Fehervari, for Nightfall

Congratulations to all of the finalists, who will now go on to write their stories for the Black Library editors' scrutiny.

A huge debt of appreciation should also go out to all the entrants, whom without their efforts we wouldn't have much of a competition. Commiserations to the unlucky masses - there's always next time...

Speaking of those unfortunate few, here is the roll of honour for those entrants who made the second cut but just didn't quite make the final grade. We salute you.

(In no particular order...)

Tomas Herbertson, The Sword of Fire
Peter Wallin, At Mortarian's Side
Mark Wight, Death Sentence
Roland Wenskus, An F for a P
Alex Marshall, Virulentus
Robert Clark, Prodigal Son
Andrew Smillie, Rousing Faith
Ron Elliot, Song of Blood
Aarod Vawser, Starblood
Ricardo Perea, A Question Of Treason
Yefim Galkine, A Symphony Of Screams
Michael Lugo, Protection
David Smith, And Then There Was One...
Christopher Worth, Talons
Nathan Touchstone, Opportunities Of Targets

Phew! That's everyone. To the second cut group, you came very close. A bit more effort and application next time and who knows...

Damnit! I was SO CLOSE!

Oh well. Maybe I should have spent more than one night on it, after all.

Have a very nice day.

Still an excellent showing!
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Ah, man. Congratulations for being recognized, but my condolences for not quite making it. Keep trying because I want to see your name in print soon, so I can say "I know that guy" and mooch off your fame. Also, I think you would write awesome stories.

I had a similar run in with their 25th anniversary short short story contest. To keep my own privacy, I will only say that I was the runner up who wrote about the Kislevites.
Runner. Freaking. Up. It felt good to be recognized at least. Not great, but good.
"Gunslinger indeed. Quick draw, Bob. Quick draw." --Count Chocula

"Unquestionably, Dr. Who is MUCH lighter in tone than WH40K. But then, I could argue the entirety of WWII was much lighter in tone than WH40K." --Broomstick

"This is ridiculous. I look like the Games Workshop version of a Jedi Knight." --Harry Dresden, Changes

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Congragulations!
Now, how about posting it here, so we can actually fawn on it while making substantial comments :P . (Seriously though, congrats. I never even knew you wrote at all)

How does that contest work?
"..history has shown the best defense against heavy cavalry are pikemen, so aircraft should mount lances on their noses and fly in tight squares to fend off bombers". - RedImperator

"ha ha, raping puppies is FUN!" - Johonebesus

"It would just be Unicron with pew pew instead of nom nom". - Vendetta, explaining his justified disinterest in the idea of the movie Allspark affecting the Death Star
