[Discussion] Warsie, Testing, + Fallout
Well, thanks to Warsie I now have to wonder if there's a "ping" on my computer with my bosses; he posted this funky stunt in Testing with the title "Does She Look 14?" and listing it as "SFW".
Silly me for believing that folks would be smart enough not to play with matches. Considering we just had the N&P topic about the underage girl that passed herself off as older so she could snare unsuspecting guys, I figured this was something related- a newspaper article about that story, or a similar one, perhaps.
Has Warsie about used up his karma points? Is this banworthy, as one of our plebes already has voiced his opinion?

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

The first URL can only be considered a deliberate attempt to get people in trouble, considering it sends people to the FBI's search engine in hopes of child pornography. I think this certainly qualifies as a banworthy offense. Furthermore, he then tried to remove the offending URLs: the post immediately under his quotes his original and I have a screenshot of the original:
Also, this following link tells you where that first goes to without actually going there: http://tinyurl.com/preview.php?num=25ydvo

Warsie has PM'd me an apology:
...but in truth I am the more irritated-- he knew it was a dirty trick, and did it anyway?I did not know that this was something ban-worthy. I am seriously soory. As Far as I know, this has NOT resulted in anyone getting in trouble. This happened to me in the past, someone tricked me in the same format. I did not think that this would result in this.

If there is going to be a vote on this I would only ask it be offerd and seconded before tomorrow as I will be on vacation the 4th-16th in Ireland and thus largely out of touch.

He did it because he thought it would be funny? What else does he find funny? Cutting peoples' brake lines for shits and giggles?

Another comment from a SDNetizen:
Any number of people have, or could have, clicked on that. I say we vote for a ban.just something I wanted to say from the lines of the "common people", warsie's stunt angered me alot.
I really don't like a clear attempt to get people into trouble, poorly disguised as a "joke" (as far as I know one of the entry requierment of the FBI is to have no sense of humor what so ever), since this could possibly ruin the lives of so many people just because they clicked on a link.

I think we're supposed to discuss this sort of thing for a longer period of time, but, what the hell. Seconded.Coyote wrote:Another comment from a SDNetizen:

We generally are which is why I won't actually post a vote until tomorrow but this does seem like a clear case of wrongdoing. So yes we should discuss a bit because right now I think the only distinction is whther this should be temp or perma-ban poll.Spin Echo wrote:I think we're supposed to discuss this sort of thing for a longer period of time, but, what the hell. We've perma-banned for less and we've temp banned for more IMO but this is pretty fucked up so as I said I wont' post the vote until tomorrow to give everyone time to voice an opinion and possibly discourage a vote before then.

More from the general populace:
I know you've probably had dozens of these PMs by now. But I clicked on the link. And Warsie is damned lucky I wasn't at my university, or at a job. Both of which monitor internet usage for something extensively. We've had people at my school expelled and arrested for searching for kiddie porn, and at every job I've ever worked for, people don't take too kindly to searching for this kind of stuff.
I've never asked for anything like this, but someone needs to make sure Warsie knows how serious what he did is. If it had been a few months ago, and I had clicked on that link, my life would be over. I could have been out of an education. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't just deserve banishment, but real-world fucking jail time.

Normally, I'd say we need to wait and see what develops, but this is pretty fucking serious. This little brat needs to learn that there are consequences for his actions. Trying to get someone in trouble with the FBI over a serious crime just for shits and giggles deserves a greater punishment than anything we could mete out. Get rid of him, and potentially inform his ISP that he has been engaging in this sort of illegal activities.
Do not meddle in the affairs of insomniacs, for they are cranky and can do things to you while you sleep.

I am in favor of an immediate, permanent ban. This little bullshit stunt was NOT FUNNY in the slightest. After having seen where the links Warsie posted lead (thanks to phongn's preview link above), I do not trust Warsie in the slightest. Moreover, the level of immaturity and lack of foresight the trick demonstrates is incommensurate with the standards of the community.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

In Shroom's thread, Warsie draws out more and more rope.
no; it was to 'get' a reaction. Not to get people in trouble or anything likw that. I did not want anyone to get in trouble, and it has not happened to other people in the past. Do you think the FBI checks and tracks down everyone who goes on their site like that?
If Warsie is not actively malicious, then he is dangerously stupid, the kind we do not need here.did you even see the link? It was a search engine on the official FBI sitw with the tag 'underage child kiddie porn' It won't fuck you over.
I would also support contacting his ISP and his parents, if he still lives at home.

He could send someone to prison with that kind of bullshit. Immediate ban, and report him to the FBI.

By the way, by saying that I mean I am proposing a ban poll right now. If someone would second it, then a Governor can get this show on the road. Do we really need a debate when we have universal support for banning by all 10 Senators who have voted in the thread?
Oh, I see other people have already supported a ban poll, so, consider this a cry for a ban poll (or an outright banning by an Admin, so much the better) by acclaimation!

Also, I think it's time to eliminate frivolous testing threads, and limit them to actual tests of sigs and banners, problems with the board, and notices of trips and birthdays (along with the picture comment thread).
Testing has just gone out of control and contributes absolutely nothing to the board while causing people enormous detriment, and ALL frivolous testing threads should not only be immediately deleted but should result in a warning, with the second frivolous thread a WTPF title, and the third, a temp ban. Repeated posting of frivolous testing threads beyond that could and should result in permbanning.

Eh, I don't really think we need to do that. Testing threads gets purged after a few days anyways and if people want to goof off there, why not? If they do something really idiotic like Warsie, appropriate action can be taken. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:Also, I think it's time to eliminate frivolous testing threads, and limit them to actual tests of sigs and banners, problems with the board, and notices of trips and birthdays (along with the picture comment thread).

More citizens weigh in on Warsie:
Allow me to remain anonymous please.I
I was lucky enough to have avoided the thread in question, but here's my take. I am currently applying for a city job out here in California, and I had to go through an extensive screening process back when I was applying for the the armed forces. If something like this ever came up on one of those I would be pretty fucked over.
If it was up to me i'df ban the kid and ban him permanently. Furthermore, I think intentionally labeling a NSFW link as SFW should be an immediate temp-ban offense at the minimum. although in the end it does boil down to the person who makes the decision to click the link, anyone who is willing to decieve someone in such a manner is pretty scummy anyways and deserves to be treated as such.
I did not really know much of anything about Warsie until now, and he's pretty much labeled himself a permanent fuckhead to me at this point.s.
