Can we have a new rule requiring the captions to be original? I'm kinda tired of seeing the same fucking poster 30 times.

I'm tempted to go through this thread with a flamethrower and burn down 90% of it. Most of these posters are shit, with no sense of irony or satire at all. So much of it is goddamned computer game, anime, or comic book wankery.

That's your prerogative, and I sure as hell wouldn't mind it. I'd just like to see some originality. It's not that hard to find a funny picture and put an original caption on it. Even if it sucks, it's better than the same few posters posted a bunch of times. Even if it's the same picture with a different caption it would be better, I think.

There are maybe a dozen posters in the entire 27 pages of this thread that actually have anything to do with a motivational poster. Why not just slap a picture with a caption in any of the 8 million ways that aren't reminiscent of a motivational poster?

If your caption actually buys into parody or satire of a motivational poster, sure, use the format...but most of these don't, and it's just sloppy or lazy design.

My pet hate is the anime ones. Not only are they not motivational, anime humour is automatic sad dork niche failure, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't disagree with that, but I'd rather see an original attempt rather than something from another site just reposted here. I agree that them actually being in line with the "motivational poster" category is the desired result, though.

Now that one was excellently done. It not only follows the original theme of motivational posters, but it also makes fun of the crappiest form of demotivators.

I see them as split up into three main categories, from most annoying to least:

1) The 'In-joke' poster...



Anime posters are by far the biggest offender here, but they aren't the only one. I've seen a number of 40K, random computer games, comic-book characters (like the above), short-lived memes, etc. Basically it's no longer even funny, it's become "Hey, see, I know this fad, lol!"

2) The Poor-Man's photoshopped caption:



Basically, it's the exact same thing as a picture with words written on it. Personally, I don't have any problem with them, a lot of them can be downright hilarious. But in the end, they aren't demotivators, they're just captioned pictures put in demotivator format.

3) The true demotivator:



It does exactly what its name says: It demotivates. A single word which captures the essence of the stupidity/hopelessless/other not-so-glorious qualities and/or situations being displayed, and has a short blurb afterwards which better explains it or hammers the point home.

Though, I'm the reverse of your opinion: prefering the injokes to the substitute captions. Mostly because its simply being used as a proxy for another program and not quite making it.

I think it misses the point to restrict it to only demotivational posters. The point of a demotivational poster is not actually to demotivate, but to make you laugh because it employs ironic or satirical humour. Therefore, any ironic or satirical humour is OK as far as I'm concerned. But wankery is neither.

I think there's a bit of a backlash against it in the industry anyway. Big stars like Aurora Snow have smallish natural breasts and their careers never suffered for it. Moreover, fake breasts look best in clothes. When naked, as in porn movies, you can often see the surgery scars, especially since you tend to see a woman's body from every conceivable angle in a porno, not like a Playboy shoot where everything is carefully controlled to hide or diminish flaws. Nobody likes seeing surgery scars. Also, fake boobs don't bounce in a natural way when they're not in a bra.

The average home vid has shit video quality, horrible lighting, etc. The performers move too slowly, the action is too tame, etc. I don't really see the appeal, unless there's some psychological aversion to professionals.

Personally, the appeal of amateur porn is that the performers are not professionals, thus it feels more real (and more closely resembles the body types you'll encounter in real life).

It's pretty much like the difference between watching a hollywood blockbuster, or a documentary. Different appeals for different tastes, not necessarily mutually exclusive.
