nBSG Episode 409: "The Hub"

Anyone notice the mention of a Cylon named Scar? Surely it's not the Raider "ace" Scar from the S2 episode of the same name?

I missed that one, I'll have to go back and watch it now.Vympel wrote:Anyone notice the mention of a Cylon named Scar? Surely it's not the Raider "ace" Scar from the S2 episode of the same name?
Athena-Sharon once did say that Raiders reincarnate.
One question...when did the raiders get the angled eye-slit like the Centurions? I thought theirs was straight across. New raider model?
It's the part where Adama is reading to Roslin.I missed that one, I'll have to go back and watch it now
I found it interesting that Colonial Vipers can carry Cylon Raider nuclear ordnance - it was also interesting that such nuclear ordnance was sufficient to completely destroy one nearby Basestar and probably another, yet a direct hit from one of them back in the miniseries (looked the same to me) only damaged Galactica's flight-pod.

Weren't they firing about half-dozen+ nuclear missiles? Doesn't seem like just one does all that much on its own.Vympel wrote:It's the part where Adama is reading to Roslin.I missed that one, I'll have to go back and watch it now

I quite enjoyed it.
I thought Helo was going to somehow sabotage the mission again like when they found that virus.
Now, what will Roslin do with the newfound information?

I thought the music throughout the episode was great. I'm really looking forward to the new versions of Adama/Roslin theme, especially some of what we heard in this episode. Considering we have seasons 2 and 3 that have variations of them, I expect to see a third.JME2 wrote:Easily the best episode of the season thus far -- though next week will probably blow it out of the water. I especially loved the musical cue of the attack on the Hub; that had better be on the Season Four OST.

It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.
I only saw four, actually. Peggy took three in Captain's Hand. I suppose we could pose that these were higher yield, but that wouldn't really make much sense. Battlestars have a tendency to be tougher overall.General Zod wrote: Weren't they firing about half-dozen+ nuclear missiles? Doesn't seem like just one does all that much on its own.
It's also relevant that these weren't even direct hits against the basestars themselves (the Hub could possibly be very lightly armored for all we know, not intending to be in a fight). Nukes, as we know, don't generally do as much damage in space as in atmosphere, so...
One basestar bought it for sure, and that other basestar really doesn't look like it was getting out of there alive, one way or another. I suspect that that second basestar was cooked beyond repair.

I remember from that episode that main reason Scar fought so fiercely and calculated was since the Resurrection Ship had been recently destroyed, it was terrified of death, so by the end it was pretty much implied that it had been destroyed permanently.Vympel wrote:Anyone notice the mention of a Cylon named Scar? "And besides, who cares if a monster destroys Australia?"
Exactly - I think they named the Raider ace 'Scar' as a reference to whatever Adama was reading to Roslin in the vision/dream, which is probably a well-known piece of literature.Spanky The Dolphin wrote: I remember from that episode that main reason Scar fought so fiercely and calculated was since the Resurrection Ship had been recently destroyed, it was terrified of death, so by the end it was pretty much implied that it had been destroyed permanently.

Looks like I misheard. Adama says "island" not "cylon", lol. Would've been a funny coincidence

The Battlestar Wiki article for the episode claims that the title of the book he was reading is "Searider Falcon".Penfold wrote:...what did Adama just read?

They just redid the CGI model for the Raider. They started using the new model during the attack on the shipyard in Razor, so it's just a new look rather than a new Raider type. They redid the baseships in Season 3 as well. One question...when did the raiders get the angled eye-slit like the Centurions? I thought theirs was straight across. New raider model?

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal. -Tanasinn

Adama was reading a Robinson Crusoe type novel to Roslin while she was sick, named Searider Falcon. The passage he read was about the narrator's regret at cultivating land on the island with which to plant. The narrator expressed regret at having tried to farm the island, because he was changing the thing that had nurtered him and saved him. I interpret this as a little bit of analogy on the writers part, the theme for Roslin was that she was trying to be practical and ensure the survival of others but by imposing an iron will on the fortuitious events taking place around her, she was ruining the beauty of it, scarring her world in a misguided attempt to survive.Vympel wrote:Anyone notice the mention of a Cylon named Scar? But they wren't referring to Scar the Raider.
The narrator said after he finished cultivating and planting a furrow, it looked like a scar. It sounds pretty fricking well written for a side plot fake story, i mean essentially its an audible prop, but BSG has been good at presenting tantilizing glimpses into an alien literature. I for one would love to read the scrolls of pythis, they sound intriguing, and this book Adama was reading, "Searider Falcon" sounds good as well.
Although honestly Edward James Olmos could probably read the warninng label on a box of Levitra and it would sound like high art. ges got a Morgan Freeman thing going on. if anyone caught him in the original 12 angry men?

I read these threads before seeing the episodes (Same for Dr.Who), and I try to do this on principle, since spoiler warnings are still no reason to spoil the utter crap out of something.DesertFly wrote:Especially since, as someone who hasn't seen the episode, your little spoilerized bit means and spoils absolutely nothing.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:You know you don't really need to spoil something from the episode since the thread is discussing.

Here's a novel idea, if you don't want to be spoiled, don't wander into a discussion thread about the episode/show/whatever in question?DEATH wrote: I read these threads before seeing the episodes (Same for Dr.Who), and I try to do this on principle, since spoiler warnings are still no reason to spoil the utter crap out of something.

That wasn't necessarily directed at you. But blasting people for posting spoilers in a discussion thread is dumb.DEATH wrote:Did I ever say that it bothered me Asshat?General Zod wrote:Here's a novel idea, if you don't want to be spoiled, don't wander into a discussion thread about the episode/show/whatever in question?DEATH wrote: I read these threads before seeing the episodes (Same for Dr.Who), and I try to do this on principle, since spoiler warnings are still no reason to spoil the utter crap out of something.
