Oh yes, let's have more fun for the one poor fucker who does registration and add to his own hell, because cross referencing the over 300-400 registrations that come in weekly isn't hard.

While we're at it, I propose that the two active admins and the three semi retired to pool a list together of people they feel worthy and ban the rest...for the safety of the board.

Let's establish something.

1. If Michael Wong is in trouble because of this, he, alone will handle it...and it becomes his personnel affair. If he wants to ask for help, he will likely do it first within his own sphere before coming to the board, and he may tell us the AFTEREFFECTS. If that means to do what he has to, that ends it. Going on and on what MIGHT happen is akin to asking will an admin one day go batshit insane and deletes 99% of the board. It is really none of anyone's else affair except Mike's.

2. People clicking dumb links and getting in trouble? Sorry, you are playing on the web on your own free time the company grants to prevent burnout. This is the same as looking and opening unknown e-mails. Use discretion. Don't blame the retard for being a moron, it's your responsibility to prevent this.

I've had a few more users coming forward wanting to make their doubts about the speed of response by IT departments etc.

So do they actually have anything to say or are they just leaking hot air? Because that's what this is starting to look like a lot.

I've made a couple of points in this thread and when you add those together with what GR said, there really is nothing more to discuss. The vein for this subject matter has been rather thoroughly depleted and exhausted. If anyone has anything constructive to add instead of overboard hysterics, meaningless conspiracy drivel or just plain talking out of their ass about things they know nothing about, by all means. But if not, then this thread serves little purpose anymore.

More from the streets:
I'd like to comment a bit on this whole fallout deal with Warsie.

Personally, I find it a little hard to believe all of the fallout occuring. I'm not trying to accuse those people of lying, but the whole situation seems a little fishy.

I clicked on Warsie's link, so I was scared shitless when the legal implications were brought up (I have an internship with a company that monitors employee browsing extensively). However, IT, HR, or any other related department hasn't contacted me about this incident. I'm not sure if we just have a lax IT, or if they were smart enough to find out about the situation. The fact remains that I was at work and clicked on the link, and I wasn't caught for it.

Just my two cents.

Feel free to post this, but keep me anonymous please.
My thought process on this is-- those of us who surf the net at work or school, when we probably shouldn't, may get caught and reprimanded in general, and attribute the reasons to Warsie when it was actually just... being caught surfing. But who's to say. I think all concerns should be taken seriously until proven otherwise.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Yes, I would like to think the FBI are competent enough to understand the concept of "prank", even one gone horribly awry. Most days I can even believe this is true. Local law enforcement, however, may be a different story.
Of course, it seems that the FBI hasn't even gotten involved here (yet?).
We are unlikely to see any FBI investigation that may be underway - if there even is one.

This reminds me of an incident on an aviation e-mail list I was on, where someone started asking very pointed and suspicious questions about modifying an ultralight for "crop-spraying". I won't go into details, suffice to say that a whole lot of alarm bells were going off on the list. The ONLY thing we ever got was a single post from one person with a government e-mail address saying "You can calm down - we are taking care of it" and that was it. I would also like to point out that no one on that list (outside of the offending member) ever experienced anything bad from one dumbshit showing up. Law enforcement is conversant with the concept of "innocent bystander" and "innocent victim".

Likewise, I wouldn't expect to see anything overt for an investigation of this incident. If anyone would know anything or be contacted it would be Mike, and I see no reason why he would need to share anything about such a thing with us.
What we're apparently seeing is the IT staff of several organizations seeing something that looks like potential illegal activity and trying to save themselves future trouble by getting rid of the apparent offenders.
Which, although not proven, is certainly plausible. My former employer had VERY strict rules on internet use at work and I have seen more than one employee abruptly escorted out the door the same day as violating one of the rules. A lot depends on what sort of monitoring is going on, and how efficiently it is done. The system at that employer was so efficient it was getting people into trouble for accessing legitimate topics (after all, both porn and medical research contain terms like "breast" and "penis") although I am happy to say that as time went by the filtering became more sophisticated and there were fewer false positives.

Actually, I think there may be more to fear from anxious employers than from actual law enforcement - employers in the US have great freedom to fire people for "policy violations", even when only suspected, whereas the police have to actually prove someone is guilty.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.- Malcolm Reynolds, Captain of Serenity, which sums up my feelings regarding the lawsuit discussed here.

The people who want to appeal to their personal incredulity just because they did not get into shit can go fuck themselves hard with a rusty barbed wire dildo and actually get more fucking life experience on a wider basis before they start making pronouncements like that.

It depends on employer and school and the policies, but there really are those out there who will deal harshly with stuff like this.

There certainly are. However there also really are people out there who would make up lies and exaggerations to drive up the drama in this thread, you certainly don’t doubt the mere possibility that could happen do you? I’ve seen far too much bullshit come out of web forums to just blindly accept such serious accusations with no proof from people whose undernames we don’t even know. I’m not demanding to know those names BTW, no one but Wong would ever need to know, but I think its just ridiculous that people are being so trusting on this . Would you believe every unnamed source the media throws at you?

Yes, it's possible. But I'm not going to assume the membership here is going out of its way to spin more drama into this or just to stir shit up. Or perhaps I should? Which would just give more credence to what GR said about summarily banning 75+% of the board right off the fucking bat. I'm not some naive, clueless moron you can sell Swiss oceanfront estate, but neither am I going to assume everyone here is lying.
