Earth should habitable, there was a lot of green visible in some o the orbital shots. it could be taht the colonials were looking for the temple of aurora that lee was looking at the plans for at the beginnin of the show.
SOMEONE is kicking around because the ship that kara came back in was manufactured by someone who could build very quickly and hide some kind of transmitter/reciever/locator in the viper, even if it wasn't a "real" signal and just navigation that is still pretty sophisticated.
At this point everyone in the show has had a nervous breakdown or Crisis Of Faith.
They found Earth, maybe they can just land and rebuild, but really theyre still screwed, theres no way they can maintain their level of technology with no infrastructure, assuming the cylon civil war is over b/c the rebels are with the colonials the cylons will still be out there getting stronger and advancing while the colonial's children will be reermerging from the stone age.

What I want to know is how they picked New York to land in. It really isn't the best choice, even if you were looking for urban centers.FuncoWilkerbean wrote:Gee, why does it always have to be New York?
If I were going to be landing large numbers of people, I would choose somewhere in the great plains, although we have no idea what weather conditions are, but NYC would NOT be my choice of a landing area, simply because it is not a logical place for survivors if you do not know the history of the planet.

4,000 years I think. That's 2,000 years before the remaining 12 left.Lord MJ wrote:How long ago did the 13 tribes leave Kobol again?
No, the strike meant they had to split season four into two half seasons. The final ten episodes will not begin airing until 2009. I think they are currently in production on the final 10 episodes right now.Old Plympto wrote:This wasn't the episode made as the impromptu series finale was it? I think they filmed up till episode 11 before the WGA strike induced shutdown.

It might have been the known co-ordinates for their "Temple of Aurora", or some other significant landmark. It had to be something built up, though, for our benefit, but that's an out-of-universe explanation.Jason L. Miles wrote:What I want to know is how they picked New York to land in. GHETTO: I've got more to say on this. When the First Fleet of convicts arrived at Botany Bay in 1788 to establish the penal colony of New South Wales, they arrived in the height of summer and found a dry hostile land. Is desperation, Governor Phillip sent a crew in a boat up the coast to the another inlet that James Cook had not explored; in this sheltered bay they discovered a cove that was more agreeable, and the colony was moved to this new location. That is now downtown Sydney.

I'm trying to figure out how anyone can be sure that vague wasteland was New York.

I'm not 100% sure, but the shoreline looks about right, and the Brooklyn Bridge is pretty recognizable. Granted, its been years since I lived in New Jersey, but the shore with the city looked right to me.Vympel wrote:I'm trying to figure out how anyone can be sure that vague wasteland was New York.
The list of large suspension bridges with that kind of structure has got to be pretty short. Its like using the Statue of Liberty in Planet of the Apes, even though the area they were in looked nothing like New York or New Jersey, the landmark sells it. The same would be true of many cities in the world, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., London, Paris, Moscow, and St. Petersburg all come to mind from my own limited travels. I would guess that Cairo, Athens, and Rome would all qualify as well, not to mention fitting better with the mythology.xerex wrote:I think its already mentioned that in REAL LIFE they filmed this in New Jersey.
which of course is why people are recognizing the place as New Jersey.
that does not mean that in Universe it is going to be New Jersey.
you know like how they film movies in Vancouver then says its LA.
Given the level of CGI that was done, they could have disguised it if they wanted it to be anything but NYC. Look at what was accomplished with Batman Begins (and I assume will be redone with The Dark Knight).
Also, isn't BCG shot in Vancouver? If a city were to double for another city, I would think it would be the cheapest one, i.e. the local one. I would think that going to NYC would only be marginally different in cost from going somewhere else.

Best episode even though I disagree with the ending. I guess we have to wait until 2009 to see whether or not this proves to be Battlestar Livejournal.

Plus the landing party didn't really look very large: a bunch of fighters, raptors/heavy raiders, and a few of the smaller Fleet ships.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal. -Tanasinn

You remember he coined that one back in S3? For the whole Anders/Starbuck/Lee/Dualla thing? Though I don't presume to speak for the Prez, perhaps was he means is that he doesn't want to see 'OMG, life is so hard as a peasant farmer' and BSG degenerating into a Peak Oil thread.
Having slept on it, I thought back to Valdemar's thread regarding the final survivor count, and I wondered whether the colonials will start killing each other in passionate rage over the outcome of their long migration, and the rest of the cylons will roll in to mop up almost all of the rest, with the fleet destroyed and Galactica herself going down Pegasus-style.

I don't know what the CGI background of the city and bridge was supposed to look like for the show, but the beach site itself is outside of Vancouver in real life. In real life they were looking out over a bay to another suburb and behind the cameras is a playground.xerex wrote:I think its already mentioned that in REAL LIFE they filmed this in New Jersey.

Based on D'anna's line, my money is on the final Cylon being a deceased character.Strider wrote:If I remember correctly, the Three said that only four cylons were "with the fleet". At that point, there were a number of hostages aboard the Base Star that could have been considered to not be with the fleet, including two handfuls of Viper Pilots, Baltar, and Roslin. A stretch, but possible. Especially possible considering De'anna didn't blow the cover of any of the final five until they revealed themselves.
It gives you "Billy's a Cylon!" guys something to hope about.
Also: I think we're overusing the "Battlestar Livejournal" thing here lately. I mean, the soap-opera-fest that was Lee-Dee-Kara-Anders...THAT was LJ. This season, it seems any character focused episode, where things don't blow up earns that title.

I agree; it's either someone deceased or, as was pointed out earlier, someone who was on the Basestar. Regardless, it has to be a previously-established character. We've got an extensive list to choose from either way: Cain, Billy, Fiske, Ellen, deceased Raptor pilots, and so on...Skylon wrote:Based on D'anna's line, my money is on the final Cylon being a deceased character.
Well yes, but then Tori could get her just desserts.tim31 wrote:Man, if it's Cally I'm looking forward to hearing arteries clanging shut and heads exploding in violent rage across the world
It's probably Hotdog anyway. Give EJO's son some importance.
Either way, I think if this was a dead Cylon it would have had to had resurrected independent of other Cylon res ships, which means possibly resurrecting on "Earth" (I still can't get over the dying leader prophecy).
It almost has to be a "dead" character, because if indeed the 5th Cylon was already on the baseship, why the hell would De'anna not go in, pluck the 5th out of the mess of humans, and ask it to join them? Why allow the 5th to remain hidden? She wants all of them, yes? Not doing so, then releasing the hostages back to Galactica would remove the 5th from her company, so the only real explanation has to be that it's someone already dead.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.
