I've passed one in Dallas going to DFW and Love Field. Never eaten at one though. Are they any good?Kanastrous wrote:"Medieval Times" is the name of a touristy place in Anaheim where you can sit and eat turkey legs while guys in maybe-period-appropriate dress joust and perform single combat in a ring.
I'm sorry; there's no reason anyone not from around here, should have gotten my meaning.

Food is mediocre at best - you don't go there for the food, you go for the show.

Yes, but is the *SHOW* any good?
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

From what I hear: Not worth the money, but this is just anecdotal.Yes, but is the *SHOW* any good?
For the Chicago-area Medieval Times, you could better spend your money going up to Bristol, biggest Renaissance Faire in the midwest, and get a whole day's worth of food (much better food, I might add. The portabella mushrooms are orgasmic), shows, etc. for the same price.

Agree about the Bristol Renaissance Faire - I've spent some very good times there.

The mock combat is better at the Southern California Renaissance Faire, which is not the best RenFaire I have ever seen, either. Plus you get to walk around, see a lot of nice costumes, and have a wider selection of unappetizing food, to choose from.

It is if you heckle the knights. Last time I want there, my knight (the blue one) looked like Ben Affleck, so we kept cheering "Go Ben Affleck!". The face he shot us was classic.KlavoHunter wrote:Yes, but is the *SHOW* any good?
Seriously, though, it depends on what else is near you. I'd say it's worth going at least once, especially on a date. If you happen to live near a convenient Ren Fair, then it might not be the best use of your money, and all Medieval Times may not be equal. For example, I live near the Anaheim one, so all of our knights were aspiring actors, which made the experience all the more...dramatic.

The Ren faire has lost a lot of its edge in the last few years. Back when it was located out in the middle of ass nowhere, they had much more dramatic battles with a larger number of soldiers, and the jousting was done by some serious crazies and not just the showoffs who do it now. Plus at medieval times, you don't have to push your way past a bunch of guys in chainmail speedos and body paint to get to the unappetizing food.Kanastrous wrote:The mock combat is better at the Southern California Renaissance Faire, which is not the best RenFaire I have ever seen, either.
