Thought I would post something just a little lighter

That's sweet.

What natural roles do you think that the bear simulated in the cat's life, and vice versa. For example, maybe the cat saw the bear as a mother, and vice versa.

Of course, I'm not a zoologist, so I can't say for sure how social these animals are.

Awww, isn't that cute? A bear and his pet cat...

That was the first thought that came to my mind. The bear feeds the cat and provides the cat somewhere to snuggle up, and the cat gives the bear a warm furry ball that purrs a lot. It's pretty much the same relationship that a person typically has with a pet cat. Especially given that bears are probably the most intelligent land animals on Earth after humans, great apes, and elephants.

It's weird, but stuff like this happens every now and again. I'm always amazed when I'm on the couch with the cat and dogs, I think how unlikely it is that these three predatory, meat-eating species give one another such affection.

I remember a similar story with a gorilla and a pet cat. The strangest story I think was the lion and her pet baby gazelle and this wasn't in a zoo.

This is almost as good as the hippo and tortise that became inseparable friends.

It was a lioness, and she wasn't keeping the gazelle as a pet, but rather trying to be a mother to it. Apparently she'd been kicked out of her pride, or become separated and was unable to come back. Most of her interactions with the gazelle were attempting to be a mother to it. She apparently attempted to raise about half a dozen baby gazelles, don't remember if any successfully.

This made my day. :D

There was a similar case here in Finland where a bear and a wolf teamed up to form a two-member pack. It was documented by one nature photographer who had a hard time believing what he saw. They hunted together and ate together. The wolf was an old one and had a limp and the bear was also an old one, but they worked well together.

Any information you could post on this would be greatly appreciated.
