Official The Clone Wars site launched

Post by Mange »

The official site for the upcoming The Clone Wars movie (and series) has been launched. While it consists mostly of placeholders, the "What are the Clone Wars" section contains a few goodies:
The Clone Wars spanned years, and rapidly spread throughout the galaxy after the Battle of Geonosis.
Hmm... And here I was, thinking the Clone Wars was a small-scale brushfire war...

Yeah, was reading that too. Believe there was mention of avoiding a "galaxy wide conflict". Brush fires indeed.

Obviously it's just a ploy by George Lucas to try and steal Karen Traviss' franchise away from her. Either that or perhaps its an inside joke to all of the true Fandowankalorians who will watch with a wink and a grin at every remark about the war's scale.

Yeah, looks like the entire battle consists of the Clones advancing up a 90 degree wall while the droids charge at them from the top of the cliff.

I got to admit, thats pretty badass.

Oh I know, if a big vehicles gets taken out in front of you, you and everyone behind you is screwed as it falls down and crushes you. If the droids just decide to cut your line, you are also screwed. You fall and get tangles, you are also screwed. You could get fucked over so fast in that fight, its not funny, and no competent man would do such a thing.

But then again, its a fight up a 90 degree wall. Something in that just screams badass to me.

Yup, more evidence that the last generation of art concept designers and such like Ralph McQuarrie is dead and all we have left are "look at me, look how kewl, look how gritty!" types.

Which is why they used discarded concept art from ROTJ for the Hutt cliff palace. :P

Not to mention that this takes place on Teth, a lesser-known EU planet. 8)

Well, at least the use of the AT-TE in this fashion leaves out the UT-AT (which was originally designed as a smaller version as the SPHA-T and given a designation during the production of ROTS). But yes, the concept is stupid.

The sad thing is- seeing them cross an obstacle like that would be fairly neat, if silly. But fighting (and winning?) a battle? Pffaw.

So..... why is Kenobi wearing armour? Isn't that supposed to be one of the anti jedi rant clonetroopers have against Jedi?

Because Kenobi is evidentally the only Jedi with a brain, and he already wore armor for protection in the Clone Wars cartoon series.

FUn fact - while I was at the library the other day, I noticed something odd, and checked the computer catalog and asked the librarian to confirm.

They bought all of the LotF books except the ones Traviss wrote.

Huhwah? Sure, Darth Vader shouldn't spook them out, buy why should they think the Jedi are bad for sticking with the robes? We don't often see Jedi die from shrapnel and such that armour would really help against.

There were indeed, employed by the CIS. One of the episodes of the first season (IIRC) features a montage of Separatists gains during the middle stages of the war, one of which is a brief scene involving a squad of Homing Spider Droids (the large, turret-bearing orbs on stilt-like legs) advancing over a beach and mounting a vertical assault on a fortified cliff face.
