[Discussion] History Moderatorial Staff proposals?

I've been asked a few times about Moderatorial policy in history and who moderates it.

I remember that at the forum's creation, when the question was repeatedly brought up both in threads and PMs to Senators, myself including, it was decided to postpone the question till later.

Since people are asking, maybe we need to assess possible staff variants? Anyone have suggestions?

Frank Hipper seemed to express a willingness to do the job at the end of the discussion thread.

If somone's under the impression that I'm neither autocratic or merciless enough to moderate this, I would like to hear their reasoning for it.

If that doesn't shout 'Likely candidate' I don't know what does.

RedImperator has a degree in history, if I recall correctly. I think this would qualify him for the position.

Naturally, that is not to say that Frank Hipper is not qualified.

First I personally would love to do this but don't have the credentials of others

Wait, so nominating self is allowed? In that case I also express a willingness to enter moderatorial staff. I do have time on hands and I plan to be a constant History forum contributor anyway.

Sine this is moderator selection I'm pretty sure that is still the province of the Admins. That makes this more of an advisory thread rather than prelude to an actual vote. Now if the Admins want us to select via voting then we need to do this without self-nominaiton in which case Frank is nominated and seconded, Marina is nominated and RedImperator is nominated.



-To clarify this would eliminate Coyote, stas, and my self-nominations, it would include Simplicus' nomination of Hipper, Surlethe's nomination of Red, my nomination of Marina/Duchess, Ender/Stas' second of Hipper.

I'll nominate Stas, then, and hint that I'd love it if he returns the favor. We can have two History mini-mods, and if we're on opposite sides of the planet, that means there's always one of us awake at any given time.

Yeah, I would nominate Coyote as a counterpart and indeed, our 11-hour difference would serve us well. After all, some of the people nominated here already moderate other places, while we have free hands.

Correct, although of course, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see where sentiment lies. Keep in mind that part of the criterion has to be the amount of time the person is available.

I'd like to see Shep and Stas Bush as a mod team for the History sub-Forum.


Why?

For one thing, I haven't seen a similar level of enthusiasm for that forum that these two have shown; take a quick look in there, and see how many threads with meaningful contribution to the subject have been started by them, especially Shep.

I think not.

First, while board temperament in general has cooled over the years, Shep's behavior in particular has has matured. He has his hot-button issues still, but when was the last time any of you people that have known him since the ASVS halcyon days have seen him act like that?

Second, look at the job he's done with Imperial Wiki; no summary deletions of worthwhile content, no purges beyond those that are called for, not to mention applauded.
He was given power, has he abused it?
When a person fails to perform as expected, whether that expectation is positive or negative, is the person at fault or are the expectations they're expected to embody?
Who expected Shep to behave responsibly when he was given the Wiki Admin job?

Third, I doubt that there is anything in the world that would be more conducive to Shep showing his positive potential than giving him a little responsibility...and, the guy has the time to do it, too.
Honestly, has any member on the list shown as much improvement as Shep has over the years?
Isn't that, in and of itself, worthy of notice?

I'd like you all to seriously consider what I've said, please.

I'd second the appointments if I had the power; Stas and Shep seem to get along well and frankly any lingering problems Shep has, Stas can easily counter.

Well, it seems the forum is still in a limbo situation, while I have still collected some of the old OT threads which I think could be easily moved to History.

I'm going to take my name out of the running. I'm barely keeping up with my moderating responsibilities as it stands, and I may be drastically curtailing my board time in the near future.

My personal choices are Stas Bush and Frank Hipper.

As he seems to be uninterested in it, I'll change my vote from Frank and defer to his recommendation here and go with Stas and Shep.
