Could a Mod merge this with the N&P thread, or vice versa.

To be fair to the old mans legacy, I don't think he wanted to see it fixed, so much as burned and scattered to the winds to be forgotten forever.

It is a strange feeling to see someone with so much distant influence on your life suddenly disappear.

I think you are thinking of Cheech and Chong.

Thanks for the memories George. When I read the news of his death, the first words out of my mouth was Fuck.

"In the Bullshit Department, a businessman can't hold a candle to a clergyman. 'Cause I gotta tell you the truth, folks. When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims: religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told.

Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you.

He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

Shit.

And there's now a George Carlin ringtone advertisment at the bottom of the page. "He's dead now, but you can get this shiny new ringtone in his memory!"
Darth Wong on Strollers vs. Assholes: "There were days when I wished that my stroller had weapons on it."
wilfulton on Bible genetics: "If two screaming lunatics copulate in front of another screaming lunatic, the result will be yet another screaming lunatic. 8)"
SirNitram: "The nation of France is a theory, not a fact. It should therefore be approached with an open mind, and critically debated and considered."

And he would love that. He would spend an hour doing a joke on it. :)

Metatwaddle and I went to see him live last year in Atlantic City. He was developing a new act (there was an HBO special in the works), and so occasionally he had to go to his notes. What struck me is even with that handicap, his timing and delivery were perfect. Consummate professional.

Heard about it this morning. I can't say I'm surprised. The last comedy special I saw him do, well, I couldn't help but think that he wasn't long for this world.

Still it's a damn shame...

Damn... even in lesser stuff like Scary Movie 3, he could elevate it (if just for a few minutes) by his very appearance. A huge loss to the world.

I once heard a qoute from him saying he wanted to die on a slow newsday, so he'd grab the headlines up.

So far, looks like he's getting his last wish.

Rest in Peace George

It is a sad day when America loses one of its truly great and gifted comedians.

PS. I see that none of the major news outlets mention his outspoken opposition to religion in their various eulogies. They always mention his "edgy" comedy only with respect to his use of profanity.

I just finished seeing his last HBO special, from March. It seemed appropriate to do. Oddly enough, it dealt a lot with getting old and dying/being dead. A rather fitting end to his career.
