The crowd scattered as the Ecclesiarchy types drew weapons – there were tales of overzealous purges happening just like this. This served as a distraction to the ‘suspicious’ looking citizens, whom, having readied their weapons, simply opened up on fully automatic fire uphill, half a dozen tightly packed people, including the guide Ajax had been eyeing a moment ago, falling or reeling as wide-bore hollow-point autogun rounds blossomed inside them, or clipped them.

They weren’t the only ones who had injuries either, as Mercurius found to his cost, as a sizeable impact hit his chest to the side, slamming against armour and cyber mantle, feeling like an impossibly hard punch ribs. Above Ajax, a spar of iron emitted a loud crack as a neat hole appeared in it. A split-moment later, two distinct cracks could be heard over the gunfire, off to the left…

Mercurius cursed and dropped to one knee with the impact, firing a single lasbolt at his assailants before he lost his aim. Without pause, he aimed the laspistol again.

As the suspicious men drew their weapons Scar unleashed a full auto burst of lasbolts in their direction, aiming for the closest one. He grinned as the enemy fire whipped past his head and began to sing the Fede Imperialis as he fought.

As gunfire explodes in the rapidly-emptying crowd, Ajax curses bitterly and reaches into his coat. With a hissing slither, a slim, monoedged rapier emerges in his hand; Sure, the laspistol is more practical, but he can't hit a Emperor-cursed thing with it, and that's doubly bad with a backstop of hysterical, fleeing bystanders. With a frown on his face, he opens his inner eye, struggling to perceive the currents of time as they imprint on the warp ahead of the actions they represent. (Attempting to manifest Precognition. At work, so I'll leave the specifics in your hands, NL)

Mithras looks down the telescopic sight of his lasgun and fires a well-aimed shot at the closest assailant, hoping to kill them quickly.
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

Despite the impact of a powerful bullet to his side, Mercurius managed to hit one of the enemies, even as he staggered to one knee, he shot the leftmost opponent, a lasbolt flash-incinerating a streak of clothing on the heretic’s inner thigh, and doing the same to the flesh beneath, causing him to let out a yell of pain that might have been ‘throne’ as he staggered back. Scar’s burst from the lasgun, conversely, harmed neither bystander, nor his target.

Ajax… For him, it was briefly like being in two places at once, as he watched, somehow in slow motion, a sizeable, pointed bullet streak toward Eli’s head, and another towards Crom. These, unlike those from the heretics before him now, appeared to come from some source off to the left, to witch his companions returned fire… As swiftly as it happened, the glimpse of the future abated…

In the same moment, a shot from Mithras almost missed the injured, cursing assailant. Almost, however, is not quite. And the laser pulse exploded a fist sized hole of smoking viscera in his chest, just close enough to instantly cook his heart and send him toppling backwards down the stairs…

[No new initiative quite yet folks. Those of you who’ve done something can have a free action though.]

Ajax staggers and goes to one knee as the unexpected dual senses sweep over him, distracting him in the middle of a step. As the stumble into the future fades from his inner eye, his head snaps to the left, searching for shred of corroboration even as he shouts out the quickest warning he can, "DOWN!"

(( For when it is my turn ))

Lifting his shotgun to his shoulder, Darien rushes forward and to one side in a half-crouch, trying to close the range enough for the shotgun to be effective without getting caught in the crossfire between his comrades and their assailants. One finger on the trigger of the weapon, he is primarily focused on the range between him and the closest of the attackers, preparing to cut loose with the shotgun as soon as he gets close enough.

Continuing to sing at the top of his lungs, Scar rotates slightly upon hearing the heavy cracks to see what new threat is upon them.

Seeing that the role of crowd-stopper was becoming redundant, Crom turned around, took a very steady aim at one of the heretic's head (FULL TURN AIMING FTW), and opened an automatic stream of bullets at his target.

Mercurius grunted in satisfaction at the downed shooter, which his vox-synthesizer translated into a booming roar, and shifted his aim to their other assailant.

Eli took his time, and carefully measured out a head shot on the same person Crom was. no need to go full auto, besides he only had a handful of rounds to his name, and twelve shells of scattershot for his 'lock clearer.

Darien’s blast hit the foe in the right leg, causing him to scream and flail to the side for an instant, making the headshot miss. The heretic firmly bit down on his lower lip, and retaliated, squeezing off another fully automatic squirt of ten bullets, this time two of them found their mark. Those marks both involving Darien’s head, snapping his head back, filling his head with an infernal ringing noise...

Another bullet, another double crack off to the left, where Ajax could see a pair of men with large weapons firing. One bullet harmlessly missed Crom, the other bounced against the back of Eli’s skull, snapping his head forwards a touch and slicing skin and hair away. The two figures; about seventy meters away, standing on the rubble strewn slope of a hill connected to the hill of landing pads only by a narrow, barred walkway, broke into what seemed like laughter, though too far away to be heard.

[New initiative…]

Having lined up his shot to the best of his ability, Crom opened fire on the thug's head.

It appeared that the heretic before Crom was blessed with unnatural luck, for the gunshots missed his head, even with aiming...

Mercurius made sure that the shot he had lined up on the second heretic was perfect, then fired from his laspistol a second time.

Ajax bellows out in his loudest voice, since apparently the concept isn't penetrating, "Long-guns, to the left! My dinky-ass little pistol can't reach!" With that, he suits action to words and heads into the fray, moving closer to one of the close-by shooters while he's distracted and trying to stab something vital, hoping to take the pressure off someone with a longer-ranged gun.

Instantly Mithras swung his weapon round to the left. They were further away this time as he looked through the telescope and situated the crosshairs on one of the attacker's heads. He took his time to ensure the shot would hit...

Mercurius’ laspistol shot burnt into the offender’s shoulder, eliciting a yell of pain, and a moment later, the heretic tried to dodge back from the mono-sword being stabbed at him. Unfortunately for the heretic, this didn’t do him much good, and the rapier sliced through the guide’s shirt he wore, into his body; he fell off to one side, completely chopped in half by the blade, two separate pieces falling to one side and then the other of the psyker.

Down the scope, the two remaining heretics could be seen, they looked almost professional in their stance, but there was something odd about them; they wore long black coats, with golden braid and crimson highlights, not the camoflage one would expect a real sniper to wear.

Mercurius heard Ajax's call and took a quick glance left as soon as the second man with the autogun had been bisected, spotting the two due to the way their clothes stood out. He estimated the range to be roughly 70 to 80 meters, too far for his pistol, so he called out the ranges in hopes that his lasgun-armed companions could get a better shot, and began reaching for the lascarbine kept on his back, hidden under his Mechanicus robes.

[next round, Mercurius is going to ready the lascarbine and put away his laspistol and spend his remaining half-action moving behind cover.]

Hmm. Mental note: bisecting a human being produces an astonishing amount of blood. Yes, the waterproof leather greatcoat helps him to weather the storm, but Ajax is still left looking more like a Khorne cultist than a witch-hunter: they tend to prefer fire to blood. He grimaces in distaste and looks for something to wipe down his sword with, at least until the memory of the paired snipers intrudes into his brain. At that point, he turns towards them, jamming the still-bloodsoaked sword back in its sheath and drawing his woefully-inadequate pistol.

Responding to the shots Scar unleashed another full burst from his lasrifle, this one aimed at the closest sniper. Still grinning, and still singing he appeared to be having a great time.

Stumbling to one knee next to the bisected corpse and grabbing up the man's autogun, Darien turns to take aim at the snipers and tries to ignore the way the ringing in his skull, the blood trickling down his face, and the fact that the everything seems to waver slightly in the aftermath of his head wounds.

Even as a calm and logical part of him questions whether he really needs to be firing a gun in this condition, another part of his mind is raging at his former commander who didn't let him take a full set of carapace armor and an Arbites-issue combat shotgun instead of the civilian model -- and desperately wanting to let loose some of that anger on the bastards shooting at his team, since the one that already put two bullets in Darien personally is too dead to do much about.

All fire aimed at the heretics with the hunting rifles seemed to be futile, and their response was to shoot Ajax – who did, after all, cut a rather bloody dash at the minute – and Scar. This time, both targets were hit, the former in the chest, the latter in the head. Reaching up, and shifting their guns a little, the two heretics picked out their next targets…
