Even though there is has been many articles saying that global warming could cause an mass extinction event, no one has really touch on the issue of humanity being able to survive an mas extinction event.
Several other species like sharks and crocodiles managed to survive the mass extinction event, so is there any possibilty for humanity to survive it as well?
Could humanity survive an mass extinction?

It depends on the nature of the event and the level of technology we reach when it happens.
There's plenty of potential cataclysms which would sterilize the planet (or even the entire solar system).
Then there's a lot more (like the Yellowstone Caldera) which could devataste the Earth, but are surviveable. We certainly have an advantage over dinosaurs in that we have large brains and can use tools and figure stuff out.
So, as usual, a hopelessly general and vague question

JULY 20TH 1969 - The day the entire world was looking up
It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

Well...you can't expect to be more detailed when there is so little information about humanity survivng an mass extinction event.PeZook wrote:It depends on the nature of the event and the level of technology we reach when it happens.

And is there any books or sites where I can actually get more information?
This is more of a 'ask for information' than a discussion thread.
Actually, yes, we casn expect a more detailed question, because the general capabilities of humanity are a known quantity and from there it is not difficult to extrapolate what would happen in different sorts of sceanrios. The problem with this thread is that you are a fucking moron who seems completely unable to use the brain you (allegedly) have. My cats are pretty damned dumb for cats, but even they have a better grasp of many issues than you do.ray245 wrote:Well...you can't expect to be more detailed when there is so little information about humanity survivng an mass extinction event.PeZook wrote:It depends on the nature of the event and the level of technology we reach when it happens.

If I remember correctly, we're already in one of our own creation, it's called the Holocene Extinction Event. Humans can survive a mass extinction, in fact the human population is still growing despite the mass extinction, the reason for this is there's no suitable predator for maintaining human population control.
