Just slightly
You don't think they're trying to make up for being late for the last world war by being really early for everything else?
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

Cliff notes version: Daleks nicked a load of planets, Harriet Jones rounds up all the Doctor's associates in order to send a signal to the Doctor, getting found and zapped by Daleks in the process. Doctor finds them, talks to Davros for a bit before landing the Tardis on Earth. Finally meets Rose, they do the whole "slow-motion-running-towards-each-other" thing before a Dalek pops out and zaps the Doctor. Episode ends as Daleks break into Torchwood, with Gwen and Ianto trying to fight them off and Donna, Rose and Jack in the Tardis watching the Doctor regenerate.DEATH wrote:Spoilers for those of uss overseas?
Credits roll just as the regeneration starts.

Something bad had to happen with that slo-mo run. Where they trying to ape Bad Wolf's disintegration of Rose?
Still I was not expecting that. I though Tennant was booked for next year's specials and beyond?
What's the betting there's an uber-reset by the end of next episode.
I liked some of the silly humour. Mr Smith's fanfare for example but the repetition of the Harriet Jones gag was a bit too much.
And why wasn't Tosh and Owen bigging it up in Torchwood? Especially when they were doing the technobabble? Killed offscreen by Daleks? (or did they die in Torchwood's finale? I never saw it.) Out of universe I know it because they had way too many guest stars already but bleh. I want to see a Dalek try to exterminate Dead man Owen, is that so wrong?

Yeah, Tosh got shot and no one noticed in time to save her, while Owen got vapourised by the Magical Radiation that Cardiff power plants produce.Crazedwraith wrote:And why wasn't Tosh and Owen bigging it up in Torchwood? To me the best part of the episode was Sarah Jane looking genuinely terrified by the Daleks/Davros. Everyone else didn't seem that bothered.
Oh yeah Davros rocked, for the 2 minutes of time he got. Fuckin' Harriot 'lame-plot-device' Jones got more time than him.
The story started strong, went downhill with the Harriot Jones pep-talk, picked up with Davros, then went shit with the Rose-love. Christ can RTD not get over this fuckin' chav cow?
Take out Rose & we'd have had a great/gooder story.

There was a reason to watch TW? I tried to watch it as an ironic comedy & nearly gave myself alcohol poisoning.Crazedwraith wrote:Bugger. Deadman Owen was the only reason to watch that show. I was bored, my 15 year old sister, who has never seen Davros before apart from in Genesis of the Daleks, was bored, and we both independently agreed it was all a bit shit. Nothing actually happened, we got a whole episode of filler with the only moments of any worth involving Donna's grandfather and the few seconds of Rose's Theme before they ran to meet each other, when it was painfully obvious that one of them was about to die.
Generally a bit of a shit episode of filler, reaction shots and other nonsense. Hats off to mad Dalek Khaaaaan! for being hilariously shit though. And Harriet Jones and her magic 'get self righteous about blowing up a retreating spaceship and claiming to be right, even when it was painfully obvious that her orders to fire solved nothing' and then pulled out a magic subspace jesus prayer device from her arse to summon the Doctor? Christ.
With the exception of Rose's theme starting being a tear jerker, nothing gripped me this episode. Not even the regeneration stuff, which will clearly not happen - what do you reckon, given everyone else is back, that somehow they'll regenerate Christopher Ecclestone? I could almost forgive them for that, purely to see Rose and her first Doctor back together again.
I say again, I was bored. I'd take Last of the Time Lords again over that.

Indeed. We have a great premise, the Daleks kicking arse like motherfuckers, Earth being stolen for 'dubious' purposes & fuckin' DAVROS looking & acting like he's just stroled/trundled from the Genesis of the Daleks cast canteen!! How could all that potential have added up to a pizza of shit & peas I don't know. Oh, yeah its RTD & Rose.El Moose Monstero wrote:I was bored, my 15 year old sister, who has never seen Davros before apart from in Genesis of the Daleks, was bored, and we both independently agreed it was all a bit shit. The Earth is abducted (there's a subtle reference to the Valeyard doing the same thing) by the daleks. Who invade (dalek fighters! Three daleks blowing up a house on 'maximum extermination' a whole pile of Invasion of Earth quotes "The Daleks are the masters of earth!" "The males, the females, the descendants") and put into some kind of suspension in the Medusa Cascade (the Doctor sealed this when he was ninety). The Doctor goes to the Shadow Proclamation (which has a large number of Judoon working there) for help. For some reason, the translation circuit is on the fritz, as we get Judoon speak, and the doctor Judoon speaking Judoon. He then babbles about the missing planets, including Pyrovillia, and so on. He finds what happened, due to alien bees leaving Earth (!) and he follows some trail or something.DEATH wrote:Spoilers for those of uss overseas?
Meanwhile, daleks kick the shit out of the UN (in Doctor Who, it's run by the Commander-General it seems) and blow up the Valiant (the reset button had better bring that back).
The Doctor works out where he goes, the Shadow Proclamation say they're comendeering the Tardis to go with him; IE, they're jerks, because god help us if the TARDIS ever actually had a well equipped expedition force with it. (Frankly. It would have been awesome. We could have had daleks surround the tardis, waiting for him to come out; out come a horde of Judoon, guns blazing)...
Oh god. I can't go on in detail.
There's a supreme dalek, and davros. Davros fought in the time war (where the Doctor tried to save him?!?! {Was the Doctor a traitor now?}) Dalek Caan rescued Davros, at the cost of his own sanity, breaking through the 'Time Lock' on the Time War to do so.
On the plus side, Davros seems to be a spiritual leader, and source of tissues for cloning. Dalek Caan is some kind of oracle. The Supreme Dalek (whom Davros addresses with respect, and calls 'Supreme One') is apparently in command.
Also, Dalek Caan calls the Doctor 'The Dark Lord' among other things.
It ends with the Doctor seeming to start regenerating.
