Why Museum Fremen?

Post by Setzer »

I recently re-read God Emperor of Dune. As anyone who's read the book knows , the Museum Fremen created by Leto II are nothing like real Fremen.
So why create them? Leto knows what Fremen are like, better then anyone ever perhaps. Why create such a travesty?

My interpretation is that he wanted a bit of nostalgia but at the same time didn't want a threat to his fish speakers superiority. If we learn anything about the Tyrant it's that he is very sentimental about his pre-worm life.

I thought he kept the Museum Fremen was so that when the massive upheavals that his golden path would cause ie the running out of melange and massive civil war when he died and yes I do think he did forsee it.

Also consider that he didn't want posers.

I am not kidding: knowing nationalism, there would be allot of people that look back at the Fremen times with romanticist nostalgia. It is only a matter of money and free time till one reannectors (donnu how's its spelled, dictionary doesn't helpo) start to appear.

There is no sense in trying to suppress it, so I guess that good old Emperor thought "if you can't beat them, join 'em", so the reannectors might as well be accurate and true.
Credo!

The God Emperor was known to have created multiple outlets to channel people's energies. I won't be surprised that in an effort to accommodate those who had longings for the older times, he gave them some leeway to live out that sort of life.

But they are posers. Duncan Idaho lived among Fremen, and he was disgusted by how completely they failed to live up to the Fremen society he knew. The children were little more then beggars, the stillsuits were of a sort no Fremen would trust his life to, they lived in mud huts instead of underground sietches, and they couldn't even pronounce most of the Fremen language properly.

It was like being at a bad Renfest, or listening to a white boy who still lives with his Dad bragging about being a hardcore gangsta who grew up on the streets.
